Today, Crown Princess Mary celebrates her 50th birthday. Mary Elizabeth, Crown Princess of Denmark, Countess of Monpezat, was born on 5 February 1972 in Hobart, Tasmania. On the occasion of the birthday, an official portrait of Crown Princess Mary and new official photos of the Danish Crown Prince family were released yesterday.
The photos show members of the Crown Prince family together, that is, Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine. The photos were taken by photographer Hasse Nielsen. The Crown Princess celebrates her birthday privately with family and friends at Frederik VIII's Palace.
In connection with the 50th birthday of The Crown Princess, the Greenlandic telecom and postal service provider Tusass issues a new postage stamp. The photo that creates the stamp’s motif, in which The Crown Princess is dressed in the traditional Greenlandic national costume, was taken by photographer Stine Heilmann.
Wow wonderful photos of the family, the children look amazing everyone of them. Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Mary.
I love them too. Everyone looks absolutely beautiful.

De superbes photos de famille que nous pouvons leur envier ; toujours aussi craquants les jumeaux sans oublier les aînés – Bon et heureux anniversaire princesse Mary !
ReplyDeleteEverything styled nicely, but I don´t get any warmth from these photos. They look very posed and stiff. No genuine smile on anyone except Fredrik once.
ReplyDeleteMary´s face looks lifeless and plastic-y.
But I do like all outfits I see here. A crisp white blouse/shirt works with so many styles and rarely fails.
Oh, I am so sorry you perceive all this as posed and stiff...and plastic...
DeleteWhy?
I am sure body language can be helpful.
Just look at their closeness to one another and how physical they are in showing their mutual affection.
The most skilful photographer could never stage the feelings Fred, Mary and their children show on these pics.
I do think they genuinely come from their hearts.
I guess these are their private apartments, so they can feel more relaxed and free to show their unity as a family.
Interesting, how these photos are perceived so differently.
DeleteI´m no expert in body language; I can only say how this looks to me.
The main thing for me is their facial expressions, and they look neither relaxed nor happy to me. The smiles are forced. In Mary´s case, it´s the very same facial expression in all of the photos (portrait and stamp aside). It just looks plastic to me, or robotic.
I can see that they are all seated close to each other, but still, I don´t see actual affection. Some arms around someone else´s shoulder but without actually holding them (look at the hands); Mary´s position sitting on the couch´s armrest is super weird - look how far she´s leaning in. Who does that? The way she´s holding Fredrik´s hands with both of her hands is similarly unnatural. Isabella´s hand on Christian´s knee doesn´t look natural either, especially since she looks stiff and he looks bored. They clearly put a lot of thought into the composition of these photos, and it shows - in a bad way. To me, it looks forced and odd. Who puts a couch in that position only for the photo? And if you go for a family shot - why choose a couch that only seats four and have someone sit on the floor? I get that they wanted to create a relaxed look with people sitting on/around the couch wearing jeans, but it just doesn´t work in a palace kind of setting. Big clash of foreground and background. It simply looks so forced. And I can almost feel how they tried a million times to get a good photo, tried out various constellations, various positions, various cushions. As a result, these photos look like what you get at the 150th attempt of a family shot when everyone is starting to get tired and annoyed.
I agree with Vanessa.
DeleteAnd CP Mary is very different from what we are used to in Scandinavia, more a star type (looking for the camera, as she was
known for) , than classic royal, imo.
But the Danes, aussies, fans and media love her that way.
Congrats and Happy Birthday to CP Mary.

So true about the couch picture. It's hilarious. Looks like they are about to move in and sat down to have a break from the hard work.
DeleteOk, Vanessa, what can I say?
DeleteThis is your perception.
I get a quite opposite impression.
We should just consider that they are and will always remain the Danish CP family, so they cannot hug and kiss each in front of cameras.
They are no Hollywood celebrities but Royals and they have to stay composed even on the most informal pics.
They released too much photos, enough is enough.

Yes, we r fed up.

I agree. It's always about quantity for Mary.
DeleteWhy do you keep looking? This is a you problem.
DeleteI'm not fed up in the slightest and I'm sure there are others who are delighted at getting all these different photos. The coordinating outfits are a great idea and while all look good, Princess Isabella is particularly lovely. Great photos. Happy birthday to Crown Princess Mary.
DeleteDP, I agree. There have been many pics. When I looked up pics of Queen Margrethe turning 50...I found two. Yes, times can change but all these pics of Mary is overload for me too.

How lovely, all of them wearing a white shirt!!
ReplyDeleteYou can feel the deep bond of love and affection among them.
The kids look so wonderful and Fred and Mary are just those precious roots where it all stem from!!
I daresay this is a glamorous milestone for Mary!
She is simply gorgeous in all the pics on all the posts, both formal and informal ones.
A very happy birthday , dearest CP Mary, and keep up with your excellent work!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Too many white shirts. I understand the idea behind the photo, but the result is a bit odd. Lovely photo of CPM sitting on the stairs.

Too many comments about white shirts.
DeleteLovely photos of the Crown Prince family.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are absolutely beautiful.
ReplyDeleteExcellent family photos. They all look wonderful. Happy Birthday to Mary.

Gorgeous photos!!! Mary looks wonderful in all of them, the children look relaxed and happy, and Frederik looks happy and relaxed. I love the individual photos of Mary--the relaxed more informal one shows a contented woman while the formal one in the Packham gown is simply stunning. Happy Birthday, Mary!!!
ReplyDeleteIs there around anyone still unaware of this birthday???
ReplyDeleteWe just adopted a 3yo rescue cat. I forgot to tell him about Mary's birthday when we brought him home yesterday. I'll have to let him know. R*e*g*i*n*a
DeleteHappy Birthday Princess Mary.
ReplyDeleteYou have made a big transition from a simple life in Australia to the important role of being a future Queen Consort in Europe.
You have done it without fault and you merit all the happiness you have.
Denmark has done well with your intergration into the royal family.
I wish you a very happy day with your family and close ones.
p.s. love the relaxed family photo in jeans and white shirts.
The white shirts are not flattering on any of them; this might work outside, on a sunny summer day, but not like this. The pictures are very posed, nothing spontanious.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday CP Mary, our Aussie girl. Photos are great love the white shirts looks crisp & casual. What a mile stone 50 best wishes. Mary
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Princess Mary. Beautiful Family.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are divine, their is warmth emanating from the photos. In this instance the co ordinated outfits work well. CP Mary has proved that the hard work she has demonstrated over the years, commitment she has shown has paid off. Coming from Tasmania/ Australia and leaving what she knew to a life of uncertainty, but following her heart, with not a shred of training or knowledge yet now she is not only highly respected but much admired. She is successful and accomplished with great motivation and work ethic, shows interest in everything she does. Never has she put a foot wrong, or acted inappropriately. Her immediate family unit is close, with her children being brought up with class and breeding. The C Prince adores her, you only have to look at the way he looks at his wife in off guarded moments. It was definitely Denmark's gain.
ReplyDeleteExtremely well put, Ava.
DeleteThis is pure truth.
And you are a insider?
DeleteJust curious... -A-
I hope there are coming more photo's of the - real - birthday party.
These pictures are beautiful but nothing more than eye dust sprinkling..... I agree more with the english tradition inviting the people at garden parties, church services. Or make a documentary about them like they did before the wedding to introduce Mary. That made a really good impression of her funny uncomplicated side.
Maybe coming soon to be continued..
Such a great amount of cliché and platitudes...
DeleteSo when is the canonization of St Mary going to be? The worship of her is so overblown and ridiculous...you'd think she was the Queen and not Margarete.
ReplyDeleteNC
If you only knew what you are talking about...Queen Margrethe...
DeleteIndeed, cringing self aggrandizement…… based on what exactly?
DeleteLily T.
Couldn't have said it better. It is completely over the top.
DeleteThe Mary-detractors are out in force. And not even on topic, i.e. fashion.
DeleteAre anyone holding a gun to your heads forcing you to look at these posts? There are after all plenty of other royals to look at instead, if you are fed up with looking at Mary.
Perfect comment.

Beautiful photos. Happy Birthday Princess Mary!! Our Aussie girl.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Vanesa. The photos are aesthetically perfect and stylized but I almost never sense any true warmth from the Danish CP family. Mary is the most stylish of all the Royal women(my opinion only) but it is unnerving how she always looks for and at the camera when she is out and about.
ReplyDeleteShe has been that way from the beginning and despite her great outfits, it has put me off her. I can't warm to her at all.
The Cambridge, Luxembourg and especially the Swedish Crown Princely families exude a certain warmth and spontaneity even in their formal portraits. I am missing it from Denmark, even though the pictures are stylish and "perfect" as I am sure they are meant to be.
Nice family photos. I like the casual jeans- white shirt combo very much. -Siri
ReplyDeleteI am sure we all wish the CP of Denmark a Happy Birthday but I am all Mary'ed out quite frankly.
ReplyDeleteShe should have stopped at the gorgeous formal painting of herself.
I thought Catherine's photos were a tad 'different' and now Mary has been tossing out photos left and right, photo shopped to make her look younger. Please, just age gracefully, don't do anymore cheek fillers or botox. You are a lovely woman, but today's photos look like a target or walmart ad with the white shirts and jeans, with the family, sitting in uncomfortable positions, no one really smiling, just the faux smiles people put on.
ReplyDeletePhotoshop mistake: Look at photo 6, her eyebrows are way too long coming down the side of her face. Look at any of the other photos, that is not how her eyebrows normally look. Each photo has been airbrushed, manipulated, to make her look better, but it sadly misses the point of a woman who is lovely and has wrinkles around her eyes (usually), a few on the forehead, smile lines. Its just too much.
Beautiful photos. Speculation on my part, perhaps Mary wanted a variety of photos because her own mother passed away at a relatively young age.
ReplyDeleteI was 47 when my mother passed away at the age of 86 and I don't have nearly enough photos of my Mum. I can only imagine how Mary must feel.
