On Tuesday afternoon, February 22, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima held a reception at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague in order to congratulate the Dutch athletes who won medals in the 2022 Winter Olympics that took place in Beijing. The Dutch athletes won a total of 17 medals during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Fantastic colour combination and stunning cape which we've seen often recently; QM looks great during this reception.

Agree, she is really elegant and the colors match well together, even if they are both strong.

Agree QM looks really good. Colour combination superb. And hair well done. The Dutch olympic sporters did really well (6th Place of all countries). So nice of Q+K to receive them officially
DeleteLovely burgundy cape which suits Queen Maxima so well A great choice to contrast with the orange team outfits, as is the white coat worn by the lady far right in the first pic. With her hair looking good, this is a terrific look for the Queen. And well done to the Dutch medal winners.
DeleteThe cape makes her extremely overdressed for a reception of the Olympic sportswomen and men.
ReplyDeleteYou know everybody is dressed in orange: choose burgundy??
Mabel
Congratulations to the medal winners. I saw many of them compete, and I missed seeing the king and queen in the stands in support of the Dutch athletes as in previous Olympics. Maxima looks great here. Her hair is beautiful and her smile is radiant. I really love her cape and her shoes.
ReplyDeleteCould it be that Queen Maxima had several engagements on the same day with no possibility of doing a complete dress change, opps sorry, coat change?
DeleteIt is an occasion to dress Less formaliteit and les attention seeking even if you are Máxima !!
ReplyDeleteIt surprises me that she is not wearing something orange. It surprises me too that until now there are no reactions on the Natan dress : belt too big, the waist too high, etc... I like her with a cape, it suits her because she is tall. Little women are not elegant with a cape.
ReplyDeleteI need to comment on the athletes outfits. I feel for them, the outfits are unfortunately really ugly… But congratulations on excellent performances in the Olympics!
ReplyDeleteRegarding Q Maxima, I am not agreeing on the comments on being overdressed, she looks fine.
The cape looks really good with the red dress. They all look happy and for the good reason. -Siri
ReplyDeleteI beg to differ about the opinions of the cape and dress colours. I think the combination is rather awful and clash badly. I love her cape most of the time but find it far better when she wears it with boots and a less dominant under colour. Perhaps I just cannot subdue my inherent hate of a Natan wide belted horror.
ReplyDeleteAs to being overdressed You can't blame the cape she must have just thrown it on for the photo-shoot outside. I don't think the cape would have minded if she had worn it with a pair of slacks and a sweater to be more in tune with what the the Olympic ladies are wearing. In fact I think it would be very dashing. One thing I do wish fervently is that Queen maxima would toss all her very high heels unless her dress or trousers are very long indeed and cover her ankles. They just do not suit her shape of foot and ankles and it is much more obvious when her skirt or coat lengths are so long. I am sure with just a 1 1/2 centimeter lower heel she would be far more elegantly shod and also look more balanced. With those very high heels I am always reminded of a wader bird at low tide.
Oh well we have a vast amount of water here so maybe masquerading as a wader bird is OK.
Does anyone else get a Natan vibe from the athlete's wide trousers and wide belts?
ReplyDeleteI disagree that Maxima is overdressed to greet the Olympians. I think it is showing them that they are important enough for her to make an effort. It would take no time at all to throw on a pair of everyday pants or jeans and a sweater. She is celebrating them. That is probably what they were hoping for from a queen like Maxima who is known for being extra. I also like the colors she is wearing. She has been playing with tonal dressing for a while and I think it is working. Colors don't have to match exactly. We have seen this beautiful Valentino cape recently, and it is a lovely color on her. I wish we could have a bonfire of wide belts, but it I'm afraid Maxima and Mathilde are both quite attached to them right now. As far as Natan designs are concerned, this dress is not bad at all. It is just the width of the belt that is a concern for Maxima. The color of the belt helps make this a cohesive look. In keeping with my personal rule about not commenting on her hair unless it is a good hair day, what great hair! The bun is stylish and full, not a quickly pulled back knot. I am thrilled with her entire look overall. One last note about whether she should have worn orange -- I like the idea of this being the Olympian's day. Willem-Alexander is in his orange tie, which is typical for this type of thing. If you look at the group picture, had Maxima been in orange, we would have seen a sea of orange, with Maxima blending in with the Olympians.
I do respectfully disagree with nalerina regarding the height of Maxima's heels. Maxima is not a petite woman. The extra height elongates her, giving the illusion of being more svelte. I do agree that the cape looks great with boots! Absolutely! However, it can still be worn with heels. I have said before that it is not possible to fake walking in heels. If your feet hurt, you cannot wear them for any length of time. Maxima is doing fine with them or she would not wear that height. At some point, as she ages, the height will gradually go down. Only she will know when that time will be. I cannot see anything about foot shape or ankles what would dictate wearing lower shoes. Are "cankles" being implied? If so, I would disagree with that as well and consider that body shaming. ~d
O dear, I would consider it a fact.
DeleteIt is a fact that of this lady that has every advantage of being beautifull, her ankles are forgotten in the great design.
Mabel
This cape looks so much better worn with the red dress and long sleeves, very appropriate. I love the colour of her shoes. Her hair looks fabulous up. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, Ava.
DeleteMaxima is beautiful and I think this is the best hairstyle for her (the bun is a piece attached to her natural hair and she looks so well groomed and professional this way).
I truly like the color combination, and the cape is elegant and regal. I don’t think she is overdressed, I think she is giving the olympians what they expect. The hair makes all the difference, neat and tamed, had she been wearing it down in her usual style (rather unstyled) it would have been a fail. The shoes are gorgeous, and I disagree that she has large ankles, she has a fantastic pair of long healthy legs, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteCherry
My thoughts, exactly, Cherry.
DeleteP. the original. I had no idea that the bun is a piece, that's interesting and makes sense to me now, the bun has substance. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAva
DeleteMy pleasure!
You see, I think that Maxima is wearing some other kind of piece on the other post about her(where she is wearing a blue coat).
Her hair is left loose but it looks unusually thick.
Of course, this is just my opinion 'cause I cannot see much of her on those pics.
Anyway, she looks beautiful, neat and well groomed, no matter how her hair has been treated/ styled.
