On February 17, 2022, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, former King Albert II and Queen Paola and Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz, Prince Laurent and Princess Claire, Princess Delphine and James O'Hare and Princess Lea attended the annual Eucharistic mass traditionally held in memory of the deceased members of the royal family. The mass took place at the Church of Our Lady in Laeken. It is the first time that Princess Delphine and her father former King Albert attended a public event together.
Everyone is dressed according the circumstances. Suddenly King Albert is really old. He has difficulties to walk and must be helped by Queen Paola and his walking stick. Although her health is fragile too, Queen Paola looks rather well these days. She does not need a walking stick any more. This memorial church servic must have been a special moment for Princess Delphine as she took part for the 1st time together with the Royal Family.
ReplyDeleteEveryone looks good for the occasion. I’m not fond of P. Delphine’s hat though. It looks like an unstructured beanie with a bit of tulle added at the last minute. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteTout le monde est vêtu comme il se doit à l'occasion de cette cérémonie annuelle ; Albert et Paola s'aident mutuellement afin de monter les marches de l'église !
ReplyDeleteKing Albert looking very frail but the one that surprised me is Prince Laurent. He looks like such an old man. Princess Claire could be his daughter rather than his wife. Her coat is very smart
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde looks so elegant--love the pearl choker and her hat! How great to see Princess Claire--she is also looking wonderful here and her coat is beautiful. Princess Delphine is also looking great here--the retro look to the netting on her hat is kind of cool. It is interesting that Astrid and Queen Paola are not wearing hats to this service. Paola and Albert both look frail with Albert struggling with the stairs.
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde looks the epitome of elegance and grace, the pearl choker, is divine. Her outfit is very demure and appropriate, she looks lovely. Her accessories are the perfect finishing touch. Princess Delphine looks very chic, the netting on her hat is fabulous, this looks so good.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly.
DeleteTo me the pearl choker QM's wearing isn't appropriate for the occasion; a simple, modest necklace would have been better. PC looks, despite the sad occasion, fabulous; very chic. All others appear to be well dressed (hat or no hat).

Since a long time it is not forbidden in the catholic church for women not to wear a hat or pearls or even lighter coloured clothes. It is not a funeral but a memorial mass for the deceased members of the royal family. None of the participants did not respect the rules for this kind of church services. If you think Queen Mathilde's pearl choker is not appropriate than you can say the same about Princess Astrid's big golden earrings.
DeleteQueen Mathilde looks like the perfect royal lady here! Some of her (Natan) clothes are weird, but this is pure elegance and classic style.
ReplyDeleteSo lovely to see Claire again and she looks great!
Lovely hairdo and headband for Astrid.
Poor Paola is forced to appear with her husband's daughter from his affair! She is one strong woman, I couldn't do it.
