On January 17, 2022, the traditional New Year reception for the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Spain was hosted by King Felipe and Queen Letizia. The reception held in the Throne Room of the Royal Palace in Madrid took place in the presence of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe Queen wore a dress that was worn by her mother-in-law during a state visit to Germany in 1977.

First of all who knew that they were so close to share wardrobes! Queen Sofia wore it best. she put more glamour to it.

I absolutely Love this Vintage Valentino that Letizia has rescued, it used to belong to Queen Sofia first worn in the 70’s. I like that she has removed the bow that used to be attached to the belt. What a fantastic combination of colors, and the skirt has kept its wonderful shape. She looks fabulous.

Agreed, what a fabulous rewear. The top of this is absolutely beautiful, the construction is gorgeous. She just knows how to modernize vintage with keeping the flair.

Merveilleuse dans ce haut fleuri dont les couleurs donnent une note très printanière ; jolie forme de la jupe mais avec une dizaine de centimètres plus courte, cela aurait permis d'admirer les magnifiques chaussures auxquelles elle nous habitue !
ReplyDeleteGorgeous top, but I don't like the long skirt with it. The delicacy of the blouse is negated by the harsh green color of the long skirt (which I also don't like the pleats of, by the way). I would like to see this blouse on a short, summery skirt. QL wears a ponytail well, but I'd rather see her wearing her hair in a different way at this occasion.

I agree!!
DeleteIt is not a blouse, if not a Valentino vintage gown. Summery skirt??
Delete@anonymous 16:27 I believe it's clear to all that for this occasion a short skirt isn't the correct choice .. Some of the commentors, like me, rather see the blouse (or upper part of the dress whatever you prefer to call it) worn on a short skirt at an occasion suitable for it.

Love, love, love this dress! It is wonderful to give new life to such amazing, well made clothes.

Me encanta, se lleva el verde y combinado con esa blusa tan delicada esta muy guapa. Si es de doña Sofía , la aplaudo, sabe aprovechar el armario real.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the next generation give new life to vintage clothes. I was thrilled when Beatrice wore the Queen's gown when she got married, and I have always wished the Queen's closet would be visited by a few of the ladies. I am so happy to see Letizia wearing this Valentino. It has been beautifully preserved. This is not the first time she has worn one of Sofia's dresses, and I can only wonder if we will one day see some Letizia's dresses on her girls. The color combination is a classic. While I am not a fan of Letizia's shoes, I understand the need for more height since I do believe Sofia is a little taller than Letizia. She has paired beautiful earrings with the gown to pick up both main colors. ~d
ReplyDeleteIs there a video link to Sofia's appearance wearing this dress? I have new respect for Sofia and Letizia in preserving and wearing vintage outfits.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress in an unusual colour combination. Had no idea it had belonged to Queen Sofia abut as a number of others have said, it's lovely to see fabulous clothes being re-worn by a new generation.
ReplyDeleteIts marvellous that the Queen is wearing a rewear, The classic colours look wonderful, the blouse I love, the colour of the skirt is beautiful, but the skirt I am not a fan of. Regardless of my tastes, the Queen looks beautiful. Love the earrings.
ReplyDeleteI love that the dress was so beautifully preserved.
ReplyDeleteWhile I appreciate the workmanship of the piece and the idea of her revitalizing her mother in law's dress I'm not sure it's a flattering skirt for her.

Agree. I think the skirt isn't flattering.
DeleteStyle of the skirt might be dated but craft is amazing and L can pull it of with her frame.

Although I love the upper part of the dress, I agree about the skirt. I think it would have been better with a shorter version of the skirt. My preference.
DeleteThe protocol is a long dress or skirt, so a shorter versión is not posible.

Beautiful dress. She looks young and fresh in it. _Siri
Bien vu.

For those interested in seeing the dress worn by Sofia, you can see at this site:

La falda está hecha en un tejido que no permite ligereza como un poliéster. Es como un vestido de novia.
ReplyDeleteLovely dress, when wearing vintage I think it is ok to have an older look, especially since it was worn her MIL, sometimes you are not able to change the style. Certainly to update it I agree with others about a more slim skirt, even though this drop waist pleat has com back in style. I also think it’s improved with the bow in the back. My only quip is that the dress seems too springlike for the winter season.
