  1. In the last photo, all I can see is CP Fred’s brown shoes!

But aren't they great shoes! I really like them. His suit, too, is a good fit and the pants not too long. Don't like his tie with the rest, and no, it does not match with Mary's gear. But great brown shoes, freshly polished! :) - Ellie

I believe they are burgundy, to match Mary's skirt perhaps? S.M.

    3. Generally my attitude is to get first a general impression about a picture, before going into the details; this ensures IMV a good level of objectivity. In this case, even if Frederic's choice was not perfect, it demonstrates that he is just a human being as everybody else.

It is quite common I've discovered, for many men (not all) to wear brown shoes with suits that are not black, especially for daytime events. For those men, black shoes are saved for very formal occasions, for evening or nighttime events, and with a black suit or a tuxedo.

  2. How wonderful all the Danish ladies look! I love the soft blue HM is wearing--it really compliments her complexion and pretty blue eyes. The teal dress Princess Benedikteis wearing is a terrific color for her silver/white hair--wish there were more photos of it. CP Mary looks lovely in her ensemble--I have always like the McQueen skirt. I hope there are many photos published from the exhibition--I can imagine it is very interesting and the jewelry is beautiful.

    1. Agreed, agreed with the comments of @Janet.
The Danish Royal ladies are decked out beautifully for the occasion.
      Not a false note anywhere.
EXCEPT, please can Prince Frederik look in the yellow pages of the phone book under the heading "Men's Tailor" . He needs urgent help.

Yes, now I am having a second look at Prince Frederick and...you are right!
He should be searching for " Barber's shop" as well 😂😂

That's the fashion in men's suits nowadays, and when the man in question is slim and fit as F is, it looks quite ok for my eyes at least. (And probably for Mary's too. :)). Nothing wrong with Fred's beard either, I find it refreshing to see more bearded men than before. A beard suits most men much better than shaved and smooth baby-bottom cheeks. :)

I used to be a big fan of CP Mary's fashion sense, but lately I am becoming totally bored with her limiting her wardrobe to a mostly neutral color palette. Black and gray, beige and cream, dark navy, more black, more navy, and here - more beige and cream. Thank heaven for the skirt is all I can say about her look for this event. It's like she has lost interest in making herself look attractive. If this trend continues, she is going to make a drab queen. She should take a page out of Princess Benedikte's book, or even Queen Margarethe's. S.M.

    1. I think CP Mary tones colors to make this event all about the Queen.

    2. Perhaps a page out of Queen Maxima's book :-))
Now that would get the music playing for the Queen's 50th celebrations.

    Oh, they all look gorgeous!!
    Q. Margrethe is so nice with her dust blue outfit melting with lilac tones.
    A great Lady and Queen.

  6. Please! Do not call the fashion police on Frederick and Mary just yet. Prince Frederick usually wears the cut of his blazers so that they compliment his toned torso. His trousers have a full break in them at the bottom to be in proportion to his height. His taupe and reddish burgundy tie compliments Mary's outfit beautifully. As for Mary becoming a drab Queen it will never happen. She is known for being a worldly fashion Icon and she looks beautiful for this event. Her hair, make-up and choice of clothing compliment her beauty. Just last week at the dinner to honor Queen Margrethe she wore purple. The colors she chose to honor her 50th birthday and book she wore a white gown, a silver blue gown. And finally, as lovely as Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte dress I hope she never takes fashion tips from them. She needs to continue to stay with her style which is so elegant and beautiful. Mary is by far one of the best dressed Royal ladies!

      Fitzhugh
Perhaps you should take a deep breath and realize when people are making a sort of kind irony even on royals.
Then ,we all know Mary will never be a drab Queen,
She has a unique fashion sense and tons of style.
You see, if you have an open mind , you are able to accept different views without bringing in any " fashion police".
As far as I am concerned, I am young enough to know that Prince Frederick is dapper and a quite handsome guy wearing fashionable clothes.
Maybe his scruffy hair and beard could better groomed.
      That's all.
      Your irritation is beyond me.

    4. P.the original, Darling I rarely get irritated, the fashion police was a joke because we know there are none. S.M . said that the only colors Mary are wearing these days are and I quote (black and gray, beige and cream, dark navy, more black, more navy, more beige and cream and I simply said if you remember the last few events she wore lavender, blue gray, sequins and a white gown. No drab here. Next wouldn't Mary lose her originality if she took more fashion tips from Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte. Lastly Crown Prince Frederick catches lots of grief for his ill fitting suits all the time when in fact he is quite dapper and dresses to perfection to me. Sorry you think I am irritated I will just have to do better next time.....Sorry I put you in such a foul mood!

  7. The Queen as always looks marvellous. Pss Bene's teal dress is divine, beautiful long strand of pearls as the perfect finishing touch, as always superbly groomed. CP Mary looks beautiful. I love this skirt and the jacket she choose looks fabulous, cut and fit is perfect.

  9. An extra treat that Count Ingolf and Countess Sussie were there - the photo of them arriving is missing in this series. Countess Sussie is always elegant and this time she wore a gorgeous brooch!

    2. @Deadeggs: Do you mean to say that you do not know, who Count Ingolf of Rosenborg is? He is very much a part of the Danish royal family! He is first cousin to Queen Margrethe and was the heir to the throne untill 1953. You can see him and his wife to the left behind the Queen in the last photo. I saw these photos at another website and here on newmyroyals one of them is missing, i.e. the arrival of the count and countess. Hope this is clear?

    3. My humble apologies. No I didn't know about them. They seem to keep a very low profile amongst the European royals. It appears he married Countess Sussie in 1998 after the death of his first wife.
From what I've read (thanks to @Nina) it also appears that he has had no children.
From a fashion point of view, Countess Sussie seems to be a very smart dresser.
Google "Countess Sussie Denmark photos" to see her chic style.

They all look nice here. The way Mary wrapped her shawl looks great and Frederick with his trendy suit and stylish shoes looks very handsome.

Unfortunately, HM Queen Margrethe is the only European HM, who never lends tiara and jewellry from her collection to the daughters-in-law for the gala events.
So this will be a unique opportunity to review those
    seldom seen.

One reason for not lending tiaras to others may be the shape of some tiaras. According to an interview of queen Margrethe there is at least one full circle tiara which cannot be modified. It was perfect for queen Ingrid's head shape, but no other of the royal ladies has similar head shape. So, according to Margrethe, just that tiara is waiting for "a suitable head". Some other tiaras need to be modified from one person to another. As most of the tiaras are old (100-200 years) they are fragile and cannot be modified back and forth to suit several persons. They would break.
Eg. the ruby diamond tiara now worn by Mary was modified for Ingrid when she received it in the 1930's. After she passed away she left it to Frederik for the use of his future wife. It then was modified to suit Mary's head comfortably. One day, in a very distant future it will be worn by Christian's wife.
Quite many of the Danish tiaras are reserved for the use of the queens only so they are no-loan type. As far as I understand also in Britain the biggest or most valuable tiaras are reserved for the queen.
