On January 10, 2022, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia attended the event "Celebrate Democracy-100 years" in the Annex at Avicii Arena in Stockholm. The performance was organized as part of the Swedish Parliament's (Riksdag's) celebration of the breakthrough of democracy a hundred years ago. It has been exactly 100 years since the first five women took their seats in the Swedish Parliament.
In January 1922, the first women entered the Riksdag: Kerstin Hesselgren was elected to the First Chamber and Elisabeth Tamm, Bertha Wellin, Agda Östlund and Nelly Thüring to the Second Chamber. The event involved a performance depicting the path to democracy up to today. On stage, artists, dancers, choirs and orchestras performed a musical journey of knowledge.
Dress: not my favorite, looks like a maternity dress
ReplyDeleteShoes: old fashioned and not very nice looking
Earrings: strange, tacky, do not match with silver type buckle on shoes
Nail polish and lipstick seem to match, but not a good look on her
Bangs: Not a good look
Overall impression: Did not try very hard looking into her closet, or got lost in someone else's closet and put things on in the dark as she was trying to get dressed in a hurry (no angry remarks/my attempt at a humor with and outfit that doesnt look good). clare
Shoes are Manolo Blahnik for ca 1000€ . They have been around for a while, but are still very in fashion. At that price I suppose even a princess wears them a few years.

You: not a clue what fashion is about. Fine
DeleteI agree. Her stylist has tried for an 80s look that just doesn't work. It makes her look short and chunky. The hairstyle would suit shoulder pads and pants perhaps - though the length of the bangs are just irritating to look at. The earrings are fine but don't really match the shoe buckle. Actually, nothing really ties together well. When being avant-garde all pieces still have to meld and complement. Despite this, she does have a beautiful smile.
DeletePrincess Sofia no no no...
ReplyDeleteWhat an ugly hairstyle. Hair on the eyes. Don't it disturb her?
Dżennifer
Hair looks fabulous! She is a young woman and should try new styles. The dress is classic and elegant. The bangs are not too thick and allow her beautiful eyes to shine through. The earrings are a great fashion statement as are the shoes and purse. Good job!
DeleteNew year, new haircut. The dress color is great on her, but the style is something that would look better on her mother in law. It ages her a bit. Abby
DeleteThe dress is beautiful. Somehow she looks fantastic and weird at the same time.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, that's so funny and true. Your comment is one of the most clever this year so far... Keep up the astute observations and writing. It's just a harmless style convo, and that can brighten dark winter days.
DeleteI have an issue with bangs (find them very irritating), and simply cannot wear them. It's a style I like seeing on others, and these are very assertive bangs, indeed.
I'd love to have this dress in my own style collection.

I think that she has been helped by a stylist that wanted to put his/her signature on her look, without thinking really what looks best on Sofia. Having said that, I must agree with Cynthia's brilliant comment... So somehow it must be a success...?
DeleteI totally agree with Cynthia .
DeleteThis is certainly not my favorite look for Sofia. I miss seeing her lovely eyes, those bangs are so severe and heavy. The coat dress is very matronly. I do like the pink shoes though. This look just weighs her down from the bright, smiling woman she usually seems to be. Carl Philip looks handsome.
ReplyDeleteChel
That bangs are horrible, sorry. Outfit is nice, though.
ReplyDeleteDP
I like the rich heavy fabric of her dress - especially in winter. It's appropriate. My only quibble is with the bangs. They're too long. Period. I'm surprised they're not all tangled up in her eyelashes.
ReplyDeleteEuropa
She’s a beautiful woman but those bangs don’t do her any favors. The color of the dress is nice but I’m not crazy about the style. Looks old fashioned.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more.

ReplyDeleteI like her bangs. Not so much her dress
ReplyDeleteLove it all!
ReplyDeleteSofia looks lovely ;the dress ,the shoes are spectacular. Actually her hair style is edgy. Carl looks pretty smart; a really nice couple (Tabby)
ReplyDeletei agree. i love her whole look. carl always looks good
DeleteAgree that the dress is matronly--don't know if it's the material or the cut--but it certainly looks like something someone older than Sofia would wear. Shoes are lovely. I like d the fringe in the first couple of photos but it's too long (Like British celeb personality Claudia Winkleman who has the same ridiculously long fringe) She has such a lovely face it's a shame to obliterate it like this.
ReplyDeleteI may be in the minority, but I think Sofia looks great. This is definitely a different look for her but, maybe, she wants to try something different and exciting. I like her dress and shoes, and, her earrings repeat the pattern of her dress (I would have worn them without the pendants). I admire her for being bold. And, yes, Carl Phillip looks handsome, as always.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree!
DeleteShe dares to be different and it is stunning!
Josh
Maybe if the bangs were longer and swept to the side. Dress a miss for me.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Swept to the side was the first think I thought of when I saw the picture.
DeleteLove everything but those bangs! OK--bangs are on trend (again) but I wish these were softer and were not covering her beautiful eyes.
ReplyDeleteThe bangs are way too long and heavy. The dress is awful - it makes Sofia look almost frumpy which is not something I ever thought I would say about her of all people. And the buckles on the shoes are kind of weird too. Just an all out bad look for her.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she is pregnant and just not ready to share it with the world yet?
ReplyDeleteAgree - she could well be pregnant (several photos appear so!) and in true royal style attempts to take the eyes away from her stomach, hence a new hairstyle etc. She’s always lovely regardless!

DeleteIf so, this couple seems to have no other hobby, Nigella
DeleteNigella, that's extremely rude. We don't know but if they want to have 4 children, they can have 4 children. That's their decision and certainly not anybody else's business.
DeleteIm not usually one to criticize, but this entire outfit is a miss for me. The dress looks to old for her and the shoes and purse do not match. It looks like she just put on the first thing she found and walked out the door.
ReplyDeleteIm not a huge fan of Princess Sofia's bangs, but her ponytail hairstyle is nice.
Who is it? Oh, it is Sofia under those bangs trying so hard.. It is a total mishmash to me. The little black purse and the lipstick are the worst...
ReplyDeleteAtrocious. Frieda
DeleteThis is an example for how much the hairstyle can change the overall impression of a woman, isn't it! I agree with those who prefer the former Sofia. I want to see her lovely face.
ReplyDeleteI agree!
DeleteWell, which lovely face..... ??? ....Nigella
ReplyDeleteLooking 100 years back....
ReplyDeleteIt is
1920s bangs and her outfits is also from different style decades.
She is lovely.

I like this dress. It is a good colour for her. The prairie dresses with little flowers are gone now forever, I hope. From the waist up the dress suits her well. The skirt however, unless she is pregnant, does not fit well. The earrings and the hairstyle are lovely. Shoes and clutch should be replaced. A classic clutch and court shoes in black or wine red would have been perfect. The soft pink lipstick is lovely and goes well together with her young face.
ReplyDeleteLove her new hairstyle. Gives her a very modern look. Bang could have bee a tiny bit shorter. Her old hairstyle was outdated. Called it the "curtain look" ( 2 curtains hanging aside with a parting in the middle). So 1960.
ReplyDeleteThat fringe is awful - IMO it should be slightly shorter and fuller, like Dakota Johnson's
ReplyDeleteHilda
I do not agree with the negative and in my view rather conservative comments here. She looks fabulous and cool, much better than in previous appearances.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why this look is so unpopular, I really like it!! The pink Manolo Blahnik shoes are just gorgeous, my favourite thing about the outfit :) I also love the elegant coat dress - perfect for a winter evening in Stockholm - and the statement earrings .
ReplyDeleteI also think the fringe suits her well, I'd just trim it a little. Most importantly, Sofia looks very joyful and happy to be there!!
Yes, me too! I think she looks lovely here, and glowing with health. I agree that the bangs could use a little trim, but otherwise it’s a fresh, new look for her. (V.M.)
DeleteAs much as I know, this event was supposed to be attended by Victoria and Daniel, and for CP and Sofia it is a short notice thing. It is possible that's why her entire outfit is so uncoordinated. the hair, however, love the bangs, but hate the length. A bit shorter, and Sofia could carry it off well.
ReplyDeleteMimi
In the first two photo's I thought she looked really nice only her fringe is just a bit too long and straight (I like long fringes but this is too much of a good thing.) Then when I saw the rest of the photo's I don't think the dress and the accessories are all that flattering for her. It is making her look chunky and thick legged which she is absolutely not. All in all I love that she experimented but think it needs a bit of adjustment.
ReplyDelete“Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”― Coco Chanel
ReplyDeleteTimeless advice that would have served Sofia here, who is so lovely. I certainly applaud trying something new and different but it looks like she has tried many new different things all competing in one go with those other “statement” things (the bangs/fringe, the statement earrings, the shoes and the make-up). Perhaps an overzealous stylist as someone earlier suggested. On my monitor the shoes show as hot pink, her lips/blush frosted pink and her nail polish powder pink, while the dress shows a deep burgundy/violet tones with gray/black. A real mad men meet the 80’s- long eye covering bangs/fringe were big in both decades.
My view is trim or side sweep the bangs, change the hot pinks to a deep burgundy or violet (I lean towards the burgundy no buckle or at least a buck coordinating with the earrings), same with the make-up color wheel and keep the statement earrings. The dress has a beautiful fabric and the pleat gives interest but does add to that maternity feel- no speculation for me on that:).

Everyone needs a change on occasion and the bangs give her that change. But hope she doesn't adopt it for the long term. Conservative dress in beautiful color she wears well.
ReplyDeleteHe must really love her....that's all I can say if I don't want to be accused of badmouthing her. Just this: not at all a good look. Frieda
ReplyDeleteHow insensitive to think that a husband’s love varies with his wife’s hairstyle or dress!
DeleteMadeline, a very good comment. There are many unhappy persons in this site writing about their own frustrations about their own unhappyness. And then there is pure hate and envy... Always "Anja" and "Frieda" and "Nigella" having negative comments about Sofia. So pathetic.
DeleteSofia looks lovely as always. She always dares to try something new, never the same, boring style. Carl Philip is a very lucky man to have her by his side. And of course he loves her, why shouldn't he?

Oh goodness, the negativity! Sofia has gone retro, not matronly or frumpy. Her dress is great. I think the pleat is in an odd place, so it takes away from the empire waistline. I love the fabric and the colors. They are perfect for the time of year. I don't mind a pop of color in a shoe, but I am on the fence about these shoes. I think this dress needed a more simple shoe, without the adornment, but then I do like more simple looks, and her stockings are too visible. Her lipstick is also a nod to the retro feel, going with the lighter pink. Sofia's hair looks great. I do think she could have achieved the same feeling with her bangs a tiny bit shorter, but I have got to say that I love that she is willing to change up her style and stay somewhat trendy. Lastly, her bag is not right with this outfit. It looks like it was the only black bag she had so she used it. I'm sure she does have others, but it doesn't feel right with the overall look she was going for. Though not perfect to me, it is a nice change from the usual outfits we see from this family. ~d
ReplyDeleteI like the bangs but they would be better a bit shorter. The material of the dress is very pretty but a straight dress would be more flattering. Not a fan of the shoes at all. A deep burgundy or wine color would have been better for the shoes.
ReplyDeleteRenee
She has never looked better or more beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSofia looks very nice. I am trying to figure out what it is about this overall look I don't like. Matronly overall? the fabric design? The colour looks wonderful on her. I'm just not sure, regardless she looks beautiful. Her fringe, still on the fence about that. Not a fan of her bag or earrings. The shoes, are cute, with this outfit, I'm not so sure.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan (at all - it really looks silly, sorry!) of the overdone fringe, and the dress would look great on Camilla (she has several with similar cut). Also, the shoes, clutch & earrings all clash with each other. But they both look happy to be at the event, which matters most. Mimi
ReplyDelete@ Mimi. The difference with Camilla is that Camilla needs shape wear. I never saw Camilla with a dress that has the same neckline like this one.
DeleteJust a thought. I think the dress needs to be a wee bit longer to be in proportion?
ReplyDeleteInteresting how there are so many negative comments, just because she "dared"
ReplyDeleteto try some different hairdo. She's a beautiful modern princess and she looks great.
Sofia is such a beautiful woman.
ReplyDeleteBut this new hairstyle does nothing for her, it doesn't fit her good.
The dress is nice, I like it.
The shoes are a big NO for me. Manolos? So what. Ugly shoes are ugly shoes, no matter who made them.
They look old fashioned and 'out-dated'. The colour of the shoes is not that bad but doesn't fit the colours of the dress.
Carl Philip is hot as hell *just saying*
She looks smashing. I really love the fringe, I've been wishing her to skip that middle parting since forever, it's too hippie style to me.
ReplyDeletePer mi, el vestit és elegantíssim, ara bé, ni el pentinat, pel que fa al serrell, ni les sabates ( per molt cares que siguin) i molt menys les arracades, queden bé, amb aquell.
