The Duchess of Cambridge played piano to accompany singer Tom Walker in the programme "Royal Carols: Together at Christmas" which was broadcast on ITV. This was the first time that the Duchess has demonstrated her pianist skills publicly. The Duchess, who has played piano since she was a child, accompanied the singer during his poignant hit "For Those Who Can't Be Here" at a grand piano in the candlelit Chapter House of Westminster Abbey.
The Royal Carols service was organized by the Duchess as a thank you to the millions of people who have been supporting their communities during the ongoing pandemic.
The Duchess of Cambridge & Tom Walker - 'For Those Who Can't Be Here'
The best and most touching Christmas Carol I' ve seen so far.
ReplyDeleteNothing farfetched, no PR strategies, only a beating sensitive heart behind a public role.
And ...Merry Christmas!!

wonderful effort
ReplyDeleteNot a complicated piece to learn, actually a very easy tune. Regardless, she did a good job not being nervous as she usually is when speaking in public. The camera was mainly focusing on the singer and the lights were dimmed which helps a lot with keeping the nervousness under control. It makes sense her whole family being there. It was her first public recital. Abby
DeleteElle nous avait caché ses talents de pianiste - Ravissante tenue jusque dans ses talons de couleur rouge !
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful. She is amazing!
ReplyDeleteTrue. I like how she has these hidden talents. Many people underestimated her in the beginning. lovely lady, pure class

What a lovely performance! The whole visual set up to the musical arrangement. It’s the first time I heard the song and it brought be to tears. The lyrics moved me as it’s my first Christmas without my mom. The duchess looks beautiful and it was a very special performance. Merry Christmas! Sue
ReplyDeleteDear Sue,my feelings exactly.
DeleteYour Mon is a shining star now and will always protect you from up above.
I am sure this beautiful sonata conveys the real meaning of Christmas.
No place for self- centered poses and actions, what matters is thinking of others and above all of all the people and our dear ones who cannot live with us anymore.
Let's keep them like treasures inside out hearts and let the healing Grace of the newborn Holy Child embrace each of us.
Dear Sue, pluck up courage, I have already experienced what you are feeling now.
Thank you to the Duchess of Cambridge, Mr Walker and the orchestra for this great performance.

DeleteE.
DeleteI lost them too some time ago and my sorrow is still here by my side, day by day.
I understand how you are feeling, dear E.
Again, let's pluck up courage and carry on with our lives.
For those who can't be here, for us who are still here, for all of us who never stop believing our dead dear ones will protect us forever and give us the strength to endure the hard times which we may happen to go through.
Although I have a penchant for fashion, makeup, hairstyles and indeed this is a lovely fashion blog, yet I do not feel like talking about all these things, not at the moment.
I think Christmas is maily time for feelings and empathy.

Magnificent! My respect and admiration for the Duchess continues to grow. Her accompaniment on the piano was poignant but subtle. Tom Walker was wonderful. The entire number was heartwarming and brought me to tears, but the sweetest part of the performance was the end when Mr. Walker looked over to the Duchess with a smile, and she reciprocated with her own smile. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteTotally agreed, Debra.

Yes, I felt the same way. She did a great job. And again she sits there at the piano so completely unagitated. And the last sequence...also an absolutely natural, not exaggerated smile from her. She has developed so wonderfully. Frieda
DeleteTom Walker wrote this song about his late grandfather and the first christmas without him (Tom Walker's quite famous here in SWR3 Land) It's a pity the sound mixing didn't trust the Duchess' qualities as support piano - it could have been more in the foreground sometimes - she was was quite good. Bit stiff maybe but aren't we all the first times we play for an audience?
ReplyDeleteLiked the colour of her dress/coat (??) it fittet great into the atmosphere in the church. Christine
this was not about DoC, this was a tribute to NHS and all services who have worked thru the pandemic. She was there to support, no make it all about herself.
DeleteCate, che sorpresa stupenda!
ReplyDeleteThe language of music can create moments that are both reflective and uplifting. I think this is one such moment.

Just beautiful touching & warming. I have always loved the piano. Words cannot express just how wonderful Kate is & how beautiful she plays. For those of who are missing family ,&friends at Christmas Tom Walker's lyrics capture this. Mary
ReplyDeleteKate the great - just wonderful. As great as she holds back and lets Tom Walker take the stage. I would have liked to take a look at William's face during her performance. He must be very proud of his wife.
ReplyDeleteWatched this performance, beautiful. The Duchess was fabulous, humble, subtle and dignified. She is the epitome of a real lady and Duchess, regal, elegant and all class.
ReplyDeleteYou wrote the best description, Ava.
DeleteAgreed 100%.

Kate played so well yet yielded to Tom Walker and at the end when they smiled at each other other, that said it all. I am Canadian, but every time I turn around, I am so proud of her and her accomplishments . You picked a winner William. Patty
ReplyDeleteWilliam chose very well, he made sure his choice was right. What an amazing asset she is to the BRF, I hope they treasure her.
DeleteI watched this song by Duchess Kate and Mr Walker on the internet. I confess, my eyes were full of tears from emotion, and I remembered the loved ones who could not be here with us ... I could almost feel the presence of my beloved papa who passed away. I´m so grateful for this. So I'd like to see the whole program- please, please give it whole on the internet.
ReplyDeletePS: Kate is glowing, but she doesn't overshadow the others. How does she do it? Few celebrities have this ability.
Stephanie
