Today, Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands celebrates her 18th birthday. The Princess of Orange, the eldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, was born on December 7, 2003 in The Hague. The Princess of Orange will one day be the Queen of the Netherlands. By turning 18, the Princess reached the age of majority. The occasion will be marked by the Crown Princess’ attendance at an extraordinary meeting of the Council of State, one of the independent legislative bodies of the country.
On December 8, 2021, the Princess will be introduced into the Council of State by the King, President of the Council of State. Queen Máxima will also be present. The extraordinary meeting will take place in the Ballroom of Kneuterdijk Palace in The Hague. Article 74 of the Constitution says that the Princess 'by right' has a seat in the Council of State from her eighteenth birthday. During the meeting, the Princess of Orange will give her first official speech and listen to speeches from King Willem-Alexander and Vice President de Graaf.
I am in trouble, I think I cannot comment as ideas come to my mind. I wish Catharina-Amalia the best.
ReplyDeleteMaryT, I'm sure it's fine! Just say what you think! - I'm wondering why the pics are so dark! - Ellie
DeleteThose are rather gloomy photos. Still, happy birthday!
ReplyDelete18 years old?
ReplyDeleteBest wishes;) she looks a little bit older.
Cath
Just a bit ? It’s so sad.
DeleteSOME LADIES LOOK MORE MATURE FOR THEIR AGE AND SOME LOOK YONGER. Be that as it mas. She is a beautiful young lady and I wish her the best
DeleteShe is a lovely girl, but her choice of fashion is not doing her any good:
ReplyDeleteToo dark, too formal, to much tissue.
These pictures are so very serious: why not just one formal, and another one when she is for instance riding or relaxing in some way or other and show youthful joy.
Josh
These photos are formal, because the occasion is a highly formal, serious and ceremonial one: coming-of-age of Catharina Amalia, becoming 18 years old and so an adult today, and not any adult but a future queen. Everything has a deeper meaning here, the accent on her face and the place where the pictures were taken. (-Ann.)
DeleteAmalia has such a special pretty face and together with that marvellous hair she looks lovely. The black/gold dress without belt!! is great on her. I love the model.
ReplyDeleteThe photo as such is superb. The Max Mara dress makes her too huge and again why this belt which even makes it worse.
I agree, she looks lovely in the black/gold dress - a little flouncy and dressy without being overly formal, and suitable for her age. The red dress looks too old on her and does not flatter her figure. She is a beautiful girl, though, and with the right stylist, she can shine and bring joy to us royal fashion followers.
DeleteI think the formality of the photos is due in part to the location. If you spent a good part of your life living in these opulent surroundings, being taken care of by "staff", and reaching your majority - it is the time and place for dressing formally. Informal dress okay if photographed in an outdoor setting (but not if standing in front of an imposing palace entrance). S.M.
Très belle jeune fille aux formes pulpeuses et à la magnifique chevelure à qui je souhaite un très bon et heureux anniversaire ; j’ai hâte d’être à demain afin de voir de nouvelles photos !
ReplyDeleteAmalia seems like a lovely grounded young lady. She has quite a presence and confidence which flows from these photographs. I can see a lot of her grandmother Beatrix in her features. Happy birthday Amalia! J
ReplyDeleteBeautiful young woman in elegant and more or less timeless outfits that suit her very well. Very formal type of photographs, but then, the occasion is also a very formal and celebratory one. (-Ann.)
ReplyDeleteAdorable girl. She looks very good in that red dress, it fit's her perfect.
ReplyDeleteThe other dress has a very nice shape but I don't like the pattern much.
So Happy Birthday :-)
Happy birthday, she is a beautiful young lady!
ReplyDeleteAnd how wonderful it is that in the future Europe will have so many Queens..
Holland,Belgium,Sweden,Norway,Spain...
Will she get her 1st tiara?
ReplyDeleteWhen a tiara occasion will come along and she will be present for it, I'm pretty sure she will wear one then.
DeleteHappy Birthday and best wishes to this beautiful young girl.
ReplyDeleteBoth dresses are fine on her; I like the photos of the first dress.

Happy birthday, dear Crown Princess!
ReplyDeletePrincess Amalia has a very lovely face and appearance. Is she a rather shy person in public?
Is she a student at a university?
I wish her parents would take her along to official functions just like the Spanish King and Queen do with their daughter Leonor.
Apparently she is taken a sabbatical year. During which she is visiting different industrial and other companies in the US.
DeleteHappy Birthday to a gorgeous princess. Great photos, too. Really creative use of light and shadow, which brings to mind the chiaroscuro of Renaissance and Baroque paintings.
ReplyDelete-B.
She looks really nice. I like the serious dress style. She not a child anymore. Frieda
ReplyDeleteAfter having seen Amalia in many outfits that do not flatter her figure, I'm impressed with her look in the flounced dress, it really suits her. It seems like these subdued photos are an indication of her movement to a new level in her life, basically now an adult is heiress to the Dutch throne. Lovely photos of a beautiful princess. ~Laurel~
ReplyDeleteLaurel, I agree.
DeleteHappy birthday to the lovely Princess. The colour of the red dress is especially becoming but a belted dress with full skirt does not flatter her at all. Both dresses are rather old looking for an eighteen year old. She is just months younger than Lady Louise Windsor and just over a month older than Princess Ingrid Alexandra, but she looks years older than either. I agree that it would have been nice to have an informal picture along with these more formal ones. Best wishes for a happy life
ReplyDeleteThis is an important milestone for her, I wish all the best to this pretty young lady.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are very dark and gloomy for a happy moment like the 18th birthday. Both dresses don't flatter her body, especially the red dress is a no-go. I do not understand that today such worse pictures will be published. The court does have so many PR-experts, consultants and stylists that they could have done a better job for her special birthday.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to the lovely young Princess of Orange!
ReplyDeleteThe photos look terrible and dark, I think the photographer is ? Princess Catharina-Amalia looks nice; her hair is very pretty; the photos should have been taken with a cheery back drop; the young lady is 18 not some old dowager who is trying to hide her wrinkles. The dresses are not reflective of her personality(Tara)
ReplyDeleteShe is a stunningly beautiful teenage girl with amazing hair. So why dress her in clothes that look so matronly?
ReplyDeleteBesides looking too old for her, the dress does not flatter the princess's Rubenesque figure.
Is she going to
ReplyDeleteCollege? (Uni) …Hope so
Stop asking questions.
DeleteRead up about her if you can.
Such a beautiful set of pictures!! She has her mother's style and poise plus her father's sense of fun. She will make an excellent queen!
