On December 8, 2021, Princess Amalia was introduced into the Council of State by King Willem-Alexander, President of the Council of State, in an extraordinary meeting that took place in the Ballroom of Kneuterdijk Palace in The Hague. The meeting was held to formally welcome Princess Amalia to her new seat in the Council of State and its Advisory Division.
As the heir to the throne, the Princess she has the right to have a seat from her 18th birthday according to article 74 of the Dutch constitution. In this way, the heir to the throne can prepare for her future tasks by gaining the necessary knowledge of legislation and constitutional law. Princess Amalia gave her first official speech during the meeting and listened to speeches from King Willem-Alexander and Vice President de Graaf.
The Constitution stipulates that the King is president of the Council of State. This is a ceremonial position, because the day-to-day management rests with the vice president. Queen Maxima has been a member of the Council and of the Advisory Division since October 2004. In practice, they have no voting rights.
Princess Amalia, the Princess of Orange, has been appointed a Knight of the Order of the Golden Lion of Nassau by Royal Decree as of 7 December 2021. The Order of the Golden Lion of Nassau is a joint Order of the King and the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
Following the meeting, Princess Amalia planted a lime tree in the French Garden of the Palace to mark the occasion.
There is something about the clothing that just looks frumpy. I'm not sure if it's the fit or what but something seems off to me.
ReplyDelete...Marie
Agree with Marie.
DeleteI think you're right about the light "frumpiness". Maybe the armlenght... But in my opinion for a 18 year old Crownprincess and such a serious event it's an appropriate choice.
DeleteI saw a clip of Amalia's adress. She delivered it with poise and composure! I'm sure her parents must be very proud of her.
ReplyDeleteFashion wise, I think she might have gone with comfort, rather than a fashion statement. Ana
A big day for Amalia and her parents! I love the red coatdress that the Queen is wearing, and all that goes with it. Amalia doesn't really nail it here, it seems like this dress would suit a summer event a bit better, the hemline is not so good with the coat over it.
ReplyDeleteVraiment une bien charmante jeune fille à la magnifique chevelure dont Maxima devrait s'inspirer !
ReplyDeleteDifficult to compare the hair of a teenager and the one of a 50 years' old lady,
DeleteIt's quite sweet King WA wore the same tie as when he presented princess Amalia shortly after her birth, 18years ago. Amalia's dress is more suited for summer. In comparison to Queen Máxima, she is a bit underdressed. Or Máxima is overdressed.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking that Queen Maxima was stealing the thunder a little with her over dressed fashion.
DeleteChel
Daughter looks good, mom has to steal the show again with a horrible hat with all those extensions underneath.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
A summer dress in winter......... for me it looks Amalia is hiding behind her hair, but let's don't talk about 'hair' anymore. She looks like a lovely girl, strugling with age like other girls at her age. Wish her all the best!
ReplyDeleteWhat a splendid occasion. Her parents just can't hide how proud they are. Queen Maxima's coat and hat are a really beautiful colour and she looks great, perfect for the occasion. I would have preferred the coat without the big belt, but given that it's Natan, that is a minor problem. Princess Amalia looks suitably business like without being overly formal.
ReplyDeletewarum ein Sommerkleid im Staatsrat ?
ReplyDeleteLike always, mummy needs all the attention… A bit cold for a summer dress for Amalia
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
DeleteLily T.
Yes Frank, I agree about Máxima seeming to steal the attention from her daughter's big day, it's like she can't help herself. All the others I can see are in subdued colors. I think Amalia is dressed fine here & we'll see what eventually happens with her hair. Well, her training just ramped up a big step. A milestone day for Amalia & her parents. ~Laurel~
DeleteI don't think the clothes are frumpy - I think they are a little bit old for her. She has a very sweet face. I hope she's got a lot of support, I'm sure it's hard being trained up to be a queen and always getting so much public attention. As a teenager I would have hated it and I remember that it was also very difficult for Victoria at that age.
ReplyDeleteIn all your comments I read a bit of my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteMy overall impression: she is not the girl for fashion statements: just nice will do.
Mom always takes the attention and Amalia is used to it.
So mom wears a wonderfull coat in brilliant colour ( didnot know Nathan could do that) that is very flattering for her, lovely hat, but, all that spoilt by rather bad hair.
Amalia: dress for a normal summers day, not bad, not really good, nice darkblue coat and shoes with heels impossible to walk on.
Had she done just a tiny bit more with her hair to keep it out of her face I would be satisfied.
Josh
Meine Lieblingsfarbe steht der Königin ausnehmend gut! So eine frische Farbe hätte ich mir auch für die Prinzessin gewünscht.
ReplyDeletelisa
Ja, eine schöne Farbe für die Königin.
DeleteI do like Amalia’s dress, I don’t think is frumpy, although a little summery it could have been improved with a contrasting pair of shoes, red, orange, green etc., she has beautiful hair and lovely skin. I like Máxima’s dress, but once again she has to add the cape, excessive hat, gloves, and that wrap always in her hands cluttering the whole outfit.
ReplyDeleteCherry
This is the same dress (different print) that was featured in yesterday's post. Amalia must feel comfortable in the style and fit and, for such an important occasion as being introduced to the Council of State, comfort may be more important to her than being concerned about fashion. Having said that, I think she looks lovely. She appears very poised and excited about this new chapter of her life. Happy Birthday, Amalia! As far as Maxima is concerned, I doubt that it is her intent to upstage her daughter. She is just being her exuberant self.
ReplyDeleteIf it was a summer day, I would say that this dress was perfect, but for a December event, I wish that she had worn a winter dress. Coat, heels and bag look very nice and I love that Amalia always seems to add a lovely necklace to her outfits :) Amalia's hair always looks fabulous in my opinion!!
ReplyDeleteMaxima: This would be a nice outfit without the belt, but I don't think she should have worn red - which is always a colour that stands out - when Amalia is wearing unassuming navy and it is Amalia's day!! Same for the hat: it's too big when Amalia is not wearing any hat - a small hat would have done for Maxima.
Maxima in her bright-coloured outfit and big hat stands out in the pictures of the 3 of them when it is Amalia's first big event as a future Queen!
The dress of Princess Amalia with the print and frills is not appropriate for this occasion. It is more a summer party dress. She could do better with a more tailored dress. The whole outfit is too much fabric and hair to hide herself. Today was the day of the Princess and not of Queen Máxima. So the mother could have stepped aside fashionwise with a demure outfit. Instead the Queen stood out with her flashy outfit. The Jack Sparrow pirate style hat is way too much for my taste. As always the typical over the top styling of Queen Máxima.
ReplyDeleteIn interviews for her biography, Amalia said that most of her clothes for official events are chosen by her mother. I see that she is wearing very high heels like her mother - which is not a bad thing if you like them but at 18, lower ones might do as well - and carrying around a shawl in the colour of her outfit, also like her mother - which Maxima has a tendency to do and I frankly don't see the point of. Why do you carry around a shawl? Put it on or leave it in the car, in my opinion it looks weird to always carry it around for no reason.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised no one said a word about her being a tad overweight. Her face in some photos is larger than her fathers. Her legs are thicker stumps than her mother who has thick ones as well (genetic trait. However, it was nice to see her present herself in a dress comfortable to her, hiding slightly behind her hair, but still able to maintain composure wearing clothing that not the best choice, made her feel comfortable. I wish she would take take her health a little more in the fore front of her thoughts, as health is everything these days. Helps people live longer lives with better results and less illness. I agree she must find her own way, just hope she gets it right in the next few years. She is a beautiful young woman who has the weight of a country and history to live up to. Annie
ReplyDeleteAlthough this is a fashion site and I'm not one of the bloggers who says something about the princesses and queens faces or bodies, I must say that the fact that she has overweight comes from the house of orange. Her grandmother PBeatrix when she was a young girl also had overweight. Later on before she got married she lost a lot of kilo's and was much more slimmer. Her father when he was a teenager and later on his twenties had overweight too. He also had periods that he was slimmer, so I think they must fight against the kilo's like anybody else who is overweighted. On the other hand she has a beautiful face and dito hair. I think they are intelligent enough to take care of their health.
DeleteShame on you!
DeleteWell, I am surprised you do ( saying a word etc.)!
DeleteJosh
You do not seem to remember that anorexia of the crown princess Victoria of Sweden started after too many unknown persons had said she was overweight/thick. Such comments are unnecessary and rude. It took several very difficult years to get back to her normal self again.
DeleteMargot
Shame on you.
DeleteTo critisize a very young woman this way...
Judge the clothes, hair, shoes but never body..
Who made you God.
You pretend to care about her health, who are you kidding?
I for one, applaud the discussion about weight. Her age is when she should be careful, because life-long health issues can be started (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol) and other things from being over weight at a young age. She is not obese, but she should be mindful of these issues. I wish someone would have told me at a young age, what not taking care of your body can do as you age. I'm not thick, but years of eating whatever I wanted made high blood pressure/cholesterol issues. Its a struggle we should all be mindful of. Being in the public eye must be horrible, but if she thinks about health, rather than weight she can be a healthy adult. I also happen to think wearing those sky high shoes is bad for ones body, and yet a great many women wear them. I applaud those who choose lower heels, that look just as nice. Gemma
DeleteCommenting on a young woman's weight is utterly unwise and inappropriate. I love how she seems confident and happy in her skin, and if you look at the pictures of her riding on her horse, she looks healthy enough for her age. And I wouldn't call her (or Máxima's) feet thick "stumps" either. I'm sure her health is well taken care of, and commenting on her weight or body type here is pointless. On the contrary, that kind of body-shaming is only harmful in sustaining an unhealthy body ideal. Let's not forget what happened to young Victoria in Sweden.

DeleteI feel pity for you.
The same person/ people, the same bad English, the same nasty judgements, the same bad trolling.
You never stop, you always fail.
You are not alright, believe me.
Mind your health before bashing others.
Shame on you.

DeleteWhat do you exactly know about her, what she thinks and the way she lives?
I bet you have no competences to speak about such issues and this is not a medical panel.
How can judge people and situations you do not know?
Shame on you.
P.( the original)
You don't know anything about Amalia's health, nor about the health of thinner royal ladies, so no, you're not discussing her health, you're discussing her weight, which I think is inappropriate. Don't you think it must be difficult enough for Amalia to be a Princess in a world where the ideal is to be as thin as possible? To always have her body compared to that of other Princesses...
DeleteI would like to add that it is not just food and lifestyle, but also genetics and Dad plus her ancestors Queen Juliana and Queen Wilhelmina were all built this way.
Amalia is so lovely and she is yet on her way to gain confidence in public appaerances and to find ideal outfits for her. But this will come with time.
ReplyDeleteCould be Maxima is wearing some kind of historical costume, walking and standing there like a musketier right out of Mme Tussauds.
ReplyDeleteBut all eyes are on Amalia our future queen. Quoted I do want to put down myself as good as possible, not a show-version. She was an (outstanding) student and refers she will be again in the Council of State.
Mingled in this old stiff House she dusted off (all )the present mummie(s) as a light of hope.
You can see her from far or at the back you know who she is, a tall ( high heeled) women with her own independent clothing-style not a herd-animal which I appreciate.
She is not short and firm (like Q Wilhelmina) so she can get away with it.
-Anna-
She showed a level of maturity and serious intention to fulfill her future role responsibly. Remarkable for a young woman. She will gain more in confidence and knowledge as time passes, and she is remarkably pretty as well - how fortunate the Dutch people are to have her represent them. S.M.

ReplyDeleteThe Queen's coat is very elegant, I feel the hat makes her look older, also the hair just isn't right.
ReplyDeleteThe Princess has a beautiful face and her hair is amazing.
I would suggest to get a stylist to guard her in her fashion choices.
The coat has to many gathers on the top of the sleeve which is adding volume which it should be a slimmer design, the sleeve needed to be adjusted to give it a finished look.
Please do not talk about her weight, she is a young girl finding her way in society not just the world, be kind to her.
She just needs a little fashion guidance.
@ Anonymous 10/12/21-05:31, and another couple of subsequent comments that I suspect are from the same person, you are the example of what is wrong with social media nowadays, insensitive, mean and uninformed comments hiding behind your keyboard, perhaps pay attention to you and yours and stop trolling a young woman, not to mention all the health advice given by some of you that nobody asked for, and definitely nobody would be asking you!
ReplyDeleteShame on you.
Sandra F. Health is an important issue; It is not insensitive to talk about it in a blog, in a manner which is highlighting the need for good health, not promoting anything, just thinking about the mindset of a person of her age. They are not focused on health as much as education, the future. However, the future is dependent on ones health. I agree with the previous posts. Emotional health and physical health are all important.
DeleteSandra F.
DeleteTotally agreed.
Anyway,I do not think all this mean comments come from the same person.
Queen Maxima looked fabulous. Wonderful colour, the hat looks divine. A well put together outfit. The Princess is a natural beauty with the most gorgeous hair. Makeup was perfect, just enough.
ReplyDeleteShe is handling her role with such maturity and grace, her confidence in public for someone of her years is indicative of being focused and more than capable of her future role. She has a lovely demeanor, she is a credit to her parents.
Anonymous @20:15, please, please, stop your platitudes, do you think that the adults that opine on this blog don’t understand that health is important? Do you think we don’t know that without it we are nothing? What we really don’t need is people disguising mean, body shaming comments, pretending to be health gurus, and dispensing wellness advice with the most basic clichés without an ounce of substance. I can guarantee you that anybody seeking this type of advice won’t be asking you or any of posters above.
ReplyDeleteWomen come in many different shapes, and they definitely don’t need your unwarranted intrusions.

Absolutely obnoxious comments above. Just how many times does it need to be said? NEVER BODY SHAME! Worry about yourself. If you are the kind of person that would make a person's weight your business, you obviously have enough problems of your own to keep yourself busy for quite a while. Work on yourself! How can you not know better? Were you brought up by wolves? You can rest assured that Amalia and her parents have eyes. I doubt your weight observations are news to them. She can also see she is not the same size her sisters are. I am also willing to bet that they have enough brain cells between them to make sure that she is healthy and stays healthy. She probably gets better health care than the majority us. Your claim to care about her health is putting lipstick on a pig. You are trash talking her weight. I would like to add that saying "she has a beautiful face" is exactly what people say about overweight women. Body shaming can lead to mental and health issues, some that are irreversible. This is a fashion blog. Discussing clothing choices and how they look on the royal wearing them is what we do. Discussing perceived body flaws is out of bounds. Do better! ~d
ReplyDelete@-d: totally agree with your post; well written!

Disagree with Sandra F, we all have our own opinions. That is what makes this world an interesting place. The person who wrote one of the comments had health (physical and emotional) on their mind, just as the British people have been discussing for the last few years, especially amongst the younger people. DeleteIt is not a question of opinions, but a question of cyberbullying a young girl who has just turned 18 and this is disgusting.
Changing identities and opinions on a blog is insane and attacking a girl who will never have a chance to reply is a real emotional issue, to put it mild, and everyone can realize that.
It is beyond viciousness.
" People" who bash Amalia must first of all take care of THEIR health issues .

Amalia looked very stylish!! She has beautiful hair, skin and a radiant smile! 😃 the fact that she negotiated stairs and a long walk in 3 inch stilletos makes her a star in my book. She will make a wonderful queen!!
ReplyDeleteAmalia looked fantastic! I really love her style! it's elegant and young and in it's colours perfect for the occasion, I love the combination of dress and coat and all accossierys (never remember how to write that word right *g*) fit perfect.
ReplyDeleteWonderful style for a very important day.
Maxima also looks fantastic, I like here style and the colours and everything.
I don't think, she overtook the attention, she wears her usally kind of style, which is nice and at the pictures I just see the very proud mother, supporting and beaming at her daughter who is in the middle of the attention.
The king also looks very, very proud. I like how he guids her into the ballroom.
