European royals offered condolence for Archbishop Desmond Tutu

Princess Charlene, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Queen Elizabeth, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Prince Charles

Human rights activist Desmond Tutu died of cancer in Cape Town at the age of 90 on December 26, 2021. Tutu was the Bishop of Johannesburg from 1985 to 1986 and then the Archbishop of Cape Town from 1986 to 1996. European royals offered condolence for Desmond Tutu with the photos and messages they posted on social media. King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Princess Beatrix were the first royals to offer condolence.

Queen Elizabeth released a statement in which she said that she is deeply saddened by the news of the death of Archbishop Desmond Tutu who tirelessly championed human rights in South Africa and across the world. King Harald of Norway shared a message saying "It is with sorrow that we have received the message that Archbishop Desmond Mpilo Tutu has passed away."

Princess Charlene of Monaco shared a message on her Instagram account, saying: "My dear friend, you will be missed. I know that you are at our fathers [sic] side. I will always have fond memories of us. And your laughter will remain in my heart forever. Rest In Peace."

The Prince of Wales said, "My wife and I are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Archbishop Desmond Tutu whose bravery in speaking out against the evil of apartheid and highlighting the threat of climate change was an inspiration to us all."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also shared a message for human rights activist and anti-apartheid hero Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The Duke and Duchess said: “Archbishop Tutu will be remembered for his optimism, his moral clarity, and his joyful spirit. He was an icon for racial justice and beloved across the world"

  1. He was an amazing and courageous man. And I am so glad to see that so many European Royals held him in such high regard.

  2. I think Princess Charlene and the Archbishop were great soul mates.
    On another royal site, Princess Charlene has expressed her deep sadness of the news. It is hoped that it won't be a setback in her progress to good health.
    A great and sad loss of a special person.

  4. Sans parler de tous les membres parmi les familles royales, je pense que nous devons être nombreux de par le monde pour éprouver une grande tristesse pour la perte de cet homme très spécial ; j'avais remarqué qu'il avait beaucoup d'humour - Qu'il repose en paix !
