King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands are making a state visit to Norway on November 9, 10 and 11 at the invitation of King Harald V of Norway. The state visit began in Oslo, where King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were welcomed by King Harald, Queen Sonja and Crown Princess Mette-Marit at the Palace Square.
King Harald and Queen Sonja gave an official lunch in honor of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima at the Royal Palace in Oslo. Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Martha Louise attended the lunch. Afterwards, King Harald and Queen Sonja accompanied King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima during a visit to The Fram Museum.
Fendi Dress - Fall Winter 2018-2019 Collection
The others wear coates, Maxima an evening-gown. She must have been cold!
ReplyDeleteI don't think evening gown Coralie. I think it is for one of Queen Elizabeths garden parties. She just mistook the place and time. It is too tight and the hem is not straight I fear a Natan.
DeleteShe simply doesn’t know how to dress for the occasion. The dress is nice but totally overdressed and it seems not fit for the wheather either.
DeleteShe doesn’t look cold! And, if she was, as usual she is carrying a shawl.
DeleteSo much to love here. The green dress is gorgeous with its 50s vibe and the hat is perfect with it. Mette Marit looks fantastic in a hat, and though the dress is a little dull, the collar lifts it. (She appears to be wearing a dress with a shawl without suffering extreme cold!!) Queen Sonja’s coat is lovely, the hat is unusual but the brown dress disappointing. Martha Louise’s outfit is just wonderful. 🥰
They just unpacked from Germany and got ready for Norway ... I like very much this green dress, inspired from the 1950s, no? We can read so often criticism here about retro styles from 70s, 80s or 90s. So why not go further away in the past. I think it is flattering in the good old sense of the word. Color is great.
ReplyDeleteMaxima's hat is nice, it fits quite well with the dress ; but not the one of queen Sonia, sorry. Her coat is ok, but not the boots, a horrible color as a start and ugly design. I prefer Camilla's boots... Qn Sonia is wearing a nice warm coat, Maxima can still have it under her arm, cold doesn't affect her.
I remain utterly on the fence about MM's outfit; the picture doesn't allow me to judge. The color seems boring to me. I wish a prompt recovery to Haakon.
I see now better MM's dress, looks good; the collar is removable !?
Deletedid not know that crown prince Haakon is ill. Wish him a speedy recovery!
DeleteAnticipating for tiaras & other blings.
ReplyDeleteHopefully lots of them at the grand galla dinner this evening!
DeleteThis is a beautiful silk dress in colour and model. Máxima has worn this dress before. She looks great in it. However a point of critic. "The Dutch royals were received in rainy Oslo". This really is not a dress to wear during day time, but for a cocktail party or something like that.
ReplyDeleteMette Marit looks lovely in every way. Anna
Anna, I totally agree with you: it is a wonderfull flattering cocktail dress.
DeleteMetteMarit in her day-dress and shawl looks lovely.
Josh
ReplyDeleteMaxima looks lovely. The colour of her dress, the style of it, her hair and the hat..all lovely, but I think that the total look is too 'evening event' and excessive for a morning arrival like this. It's like she came in to work directly from a ball the previous night without changing. Still love her though.
ReplyDeleteI love MM with the shawl, but not so much without it. That style of dress works better for a more petite figure. Her smile wins me over.
Lovely to see both ladies sharing moments together.
Looking forward to the fashion parade in the days - and nights - to come.

What a beautiful dress in a beautiful green color with retro vibes with the boat collar and the intricate draping, however a find it a little tight and as usual the bad brassiere or lack there off spoils the fit and, the carrying of the shawl that is totally unnecessary for this dress, who in its right mind would want to cover this outfit?, along with the gloves, clutch and the not surprising bouquet makes her look like she need a wagon to put the accessories. This would have been perfection on a cocktail recepción with an updo, and more delicate shoes, not so much descending from a plane.
ReplyDeleteDisagree with most, as I do like Sonja’s boots combined with the coat and dress, baby blue and chocolate is always a winner for me, and the whole ensemble is rather original.
I also like Mette Marit dress a lot, but the color just washes her out completely.
Sherry
Meant to sign Cherry…. Typo!!
DeleteI like Sonja´s boots too, I think they´re great. I also like how they match the cuffs of her dress. I don´t find her dress pretty exactly, but I like that it is different and original while still ticking all the necessary boxes (formal, polished, good fit, appropriate for season and occasion etc.). The hat clearly wants to be a tiara.
DeleteVery nice green dress on Maxima, but not at 11 am as this was.
ReplyDeleteLove Mette-Marit's dress even if we have seen it before, but the best dressed is Martha Louise! Perfect red colour and sooo well fitted, love it! Usually a big fan of Sonja, but the hat is simply to much and overpowering for my tast.
In photo #11 where 6 of them are lined up, the eye is drawn immediately to Maxima in her bright green dress (and afterwards maybe to the lady in red). I like that it is neither short nor long, perfect length and volume; and also like that she didn't add too many fussy accessories or coat/shawl to cover up the design of the dress. The Norwegian ladies are in dull, neutral colors. Sonja looks fine with the light blue coat and hat combo, but once the coat is removed, she is a wall of dark brown. MM's dress is lovely but why wear a washed-out beige with a pale gray shawl? She disappears into the wallpaper. Full marks to Max, she looks well put-together and shows respect by making an elegant appearance. In future when looking at these photos, it is Max who will make an impression. S.M.
ReplyDeleteYou do realise that you're comment say more about yourself then the people you are walking all over. It would haven been so easy to comment what you liked and still have your integrity in place, but no...
DeleteThe irony of criticizing someone for being critical... :-)
DeleteS.M´s comment was just fine.
Well Venessa it takes one to know one. We do remember what people are expressing on these site ;)
DeleteI have no idea what Anon 18:02 or Anon 08:02 are talking about. Sometimes the rudeness of some comments are off-putting to wanting to read any comments at all.
DeleteThank you Vanessa, for defending what I thought was a fair statement of my opinion on the fashion without any reference to personalities - I was feeling unfairly attacked by Anon. S.M.
QM's dress is lovely from the waist up. The skirt is rather odd. I prefer a normal hemline. The front part of the skirt looks like it sticks to her legs. The color is good for her. Nice little hat.
ReplyDeleteMariska
I feel like Princess Martha is so underrated. She looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteNothing to do with fashion but I am curious if King Willem Alexander was the pilot. He very often is.
ReplyDeleteThe press have written that he was the co-pilot on the trip to Oslo.
DeleteMaxima's dress would be nice for a cocktail party or an evening event, but seems totally out of place in this context. Queen Sonja is usually well-dressed, but this time got it wrong, I´m afraid. I like Mette-Marit with the shawl, but not the dress underneath. In fact, I have the impression that the best-dressed lady was Princess Marta Louise.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Queen Maxima and Princess Mette-Marit are wearing the sale shoes (see photo N°8). Maybe there's a royal special on offer somewhere.
ReplyDeleteNot how I or my husband would be dressed getting off a plane in Oslo in November. The temperature there is the same as here & I would be in a coat & have my legs warm.
ReplyDeleteSonja is apparently wearing the same coat she wore on their state visit to the USA in 2005 when GeorgeWBush was President. Good for her! Maybe that awful brown dress was also hanging in the back of her closet.
Mette-Marit's lighter shade of brown is quite nice & the shawl is lovely.
Always a good time & laughter when Harald & Sonja are around!

Both landing and arrival at the Royal Palace in Oslo can be watched in two videos on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteI do not know at what time the Dutch Royal Couple arrived but I guess Maxima did not have a look at the weather news .
I guess it was morning or early afternoon as all the ladies wore hats according to the royal protocol.
Maxima does not look appropriately attired for such a rainy and cold day, which was anyway predictable for Norway at this time of the year.
She also had a shawl in her hands on her arrival.
I do miss Norway and its wonders!
Maxima cocktail dress is gorgeous itself with its emerald green colour though and her smile brightens up the atmosphere.
Mette- Marit is so beautiful , but she could have done better fashion wise.
Queen Sonja is dressed impeccably and her dusty blue coat is so stylish.
I am sorry Prince Haakon was not able to attend.

Märtha is wearing her mom's Rena Lang suit. They all look great. Look forward to see their galla outfit 😉 Anna

ReplyDeleteI think the top white part of PMM's dress makes her unnecessarily broad in the shoulders and that the top hat is too faded on her blond hair.
ReplyDeleteQS looks nice and original (a bit tsarina style), but I agree with an earlier writer that when her coat is off, the whole loses power as far as I'm concerned. A pair of (needle) heels makes it look better.
QM looks beautiful in this green silk dress and seems ready to join a festive lunch.
The red dress from PML is simple but beautiful.
All in all it seems like a relaxed company together.
MCS
Queen Maxima looks splendid. Love this green gown and her accessories are spot on, beautiful butterfly brooch on her waist. Love the earrings. Queen Sonja looks fabulous, love the coat, beautiful shade of blue.
ReplyDeleteAll of the royal ladies, including Princess Martha, look lovely. Maxima's dress is gorgeous even if a bit too formal for the welcoming ceremony. Queen Sonja's kokoshnik styled hat is not one of my favorites, but she is always stylish. Her change of outfit in the last picture is more to my liking, especially with the colorful scarf. Mette-Marit and Martha Louise look very pretty, and I particularly like the group photo of the six of them standing in line, bookended by MM and ML.
ReplyDeleteWasnt a fan of the green dress first time she wore it. Never a fan of of odd hemlines. Wonder why she had a shawl, but carried it, rather than wearing it.
ReplyDeleteQueen Sonja, not a fan of the hat, or the dress, but her blue coat was lovely.
MM and her sister in-law were nicely attired. annie
As usual. Maxima is clueless about what to where and for what occasion, but her hair looks good. The picture where everybody is together it looks like a costume party, everybody wearing the first thing they found in their closet. Queen Sonia's is the worst. Mette Marit and Martas Louise are fine.
ReplyDeleteHow nice that princess Martha is attending. Her red dress is elegant and the color suits her very well. I hope to see her at the grand galla dinner! Queen Maxima looks wonderful in her green dress
ReplyDeleteI do love Queen Maxima's dress--it screams Princess Margaret in her heyday! But, like many other commenters I think it translate better to a cocktail dress or a garden party or Ascot. Still, Maxima looks fabulous. Love Queen Sonja's ensemble except the hat--its overpowering her. If the hat were scaled back in size I would love it. CP Mette-Marit looks so elegant! The creamy upper part of the bodice elevates the whole style of the dress. And, she's wearing a real hat--not common for her. She really does look terrific! So glad to see Princess Martha Louise joining the family--she looks lovely in her (mother's) red suit. Finally, the 2 kings look quite handsome too.
ReplyDeleteThough QM is extremely fine in this outfit, i dont think she has travelled dressed that way... Probably she changed herself in the plane before the arrival...
ReplyDeleteThe green dress on Queen Maxima as such is lovely, just not for that particular occasion. Cocktail reception or non-state dinner affair - yes. Being received on the tarmac of an airport as start of a state visit - not so much. Queen Sonja looks good as long as she keeps the coat on. Her brown dress underneath does nothing for her. CP Mette-Marit is dressed nicely with the shawl wrapped around her but without her look is much more boring. Best dressed woman: Princess Märtha-Louise!
