King Philippe and Queen Mathilde opened the 28th edition of the cultural festival “Europalia” at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels. Europalia opened with the exhibition called "Tracks to Modernity" which is all about trains. The opening exhibition “Tracks to Modernity” outlines the impact of the train on society and in particular on painting from its inception to the 1950s.
Europalia will last for seven months and involve nearly 70 events, not only in museums, but also in stations and moving trains. Every two years, Europalia organizes a diverse artistic programme focusing on a country or a theme. For four months, in Belgium and its neighbouring countries, Europalia, in collaboration with a wide network of cultural partners, presents a biennial involving a myriad of artistic and socio-cultural projects that bring together visual arts, performing arts, film, music, literature.
No sorry, the dress ages her, not flattering.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Unfortunately it makes her look thick around the middle.

This is a really flattering coiffure for Mathilde.
ReplyDeleteI think the dress is nice too, but donot get a good overall impression,
Josh
The long version with the white top and the wide belt is gorgeous and chic.
ReplyDeleteI actually think she looks very good in this dress.
ReplyDeleteI also like the dress for many reasons, but mostly because of the clever use of the artistic tribal print, and also for the monochromatic colour. Good job!

I usually dislike Natan’s designs, but I think this dress is quite an interesting print, and it fits Q. Mathilde well. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteI like the neckline of the dress, but otherwise it's not great on Mathilde - it swamps her from the waist down. Her hair is nice like this, an up do makes her look younger and shows off her pretty face. From the first pic King Phil may agree ☺

Oh dear. No no no. Sadly another Natan miss.
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this dress, it suits her well. I adore the photograph in profile with the miniature trains. It reminds me of Mathilde at her engagement ball. She looks very classy with this formal hairstyle.
ReplyDeleteLove everything about Mathilde today! Her hair in a sophisticated (not haphazard or matronly) up-do matched with the upswept dress neckline; delicate earrings (instead of oversized plates hanging from her ears); shoes, legs (can't tell if she is wearing nylons but they look great) and dress nicely balancing the white and black. Really like the dress, the wild print seems to be suitable for this venue/event and it works on Mathilde who is short-waisted, long-legged and a bit round about the middle. The mostly black skirt with mostly white top give her more balanced proportions and make her look slim and tall. Overall a big win for me! S.M.
ReplyDeleteC'est un élégant modèle de Natan mais il ne flatte pas du tout la silhouette de Mathilde surtout au niveau de la taille ; très joli chignon qui met son port de tête en valeur !
ReplyDeleteFor the positives, the Queen’s hair looks good, the pattern of the fabric is interesting and the dress has a nice neckline. If the dress was unbelted and an A line shape like the long version it might be okay but like this, sorry, no! Not at all flattering.
ReplyDeleteI love her hair--updo's are great for Mathilde! I love the neckline and a wrap-style dress is often a good choice for anyone. My problems with this Natan dress (to be honest, I'm not a fan of Natan) are that the fabric is too stiff, even overwhelming for a day dress--its gorgeous for the evening gown with the white bodice and sash/belt--and again, the wide belt is not as flattering for Mathilde because she is short-waisted. She looks lovely as always but I do wish she would wear less Natan or have a stylist help her with the design/fit issues of too many of his styles for Mathilde.
ReplyDeleteI think Mathilde looks great here. Yes, it is a heavier fabric, but the structure is nice. Her hair looks fantastic here in this updo.
ReplyDeleteI must say, the full length version of this dress with the belt is absolutely gorgeous.

I said it before and I say it today : when QM is wearing Nathan or Van Nooten or another designer there are always remarks about her waist. This is how she is no matter who the designer is. Not every woman (royal or not) has the same anatomy. Not every woman has size 36 (French sizes). Fashionwise I think she is looking great. The black & white is good, the hair, the earrings, the shoes and clutch. The belt isn't that wide, perhaps the next time trying a fine black leather belt or no belt att all....

What a gorgeous dress, the print as well as the model. She looks so elegant, but then she always does. She has a wonderful taste and/or a good stylist. How come that Mathilde always makes the right choises in the Natan collection and Máxima seldom the good ones.
ReplyDeleteQM's looking great in this dress and with this hair updo ; I can even see her wearing the dress with a pair of elegant high heeled black boots. Usually there's too much focuss on the waiste, but this type of belt in the same fabric as the dress distracts the attention from the waiste.

In any case much better than the black and white dress CP Victoria was wearing on the same day. It was a really boring picture. ...

Why not? Looks good with the pins and needles ( in dutch "kriebel krabbel")of the first painting. Difference she is in black and white, an chic combination. The print is almost comic book -like inspirited.

I quite like the black-white dress, the pattern helps the Queen's figure, her hair is wonderful as are the accessories she uses with the outfit. clara
