At the invitation of the Prime Minister of Greenland, Múte Bourup Egede, Queen Margrethe of Denmark is paying an official visit to Greenland from 8 to 12 October 2021. The visit was going to be made between July and August of this year, but had to be postponed due to a series of CoViD-19 outbreaks throughout Greenland. The Queen will visit the capital Nuuk, Ilulissat, Pituffik and Station Nord.
In Ilulissat, Queen Margrethe attended the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the 5th Thule expedition by Knud Rasmussen by visiting his birth place. There, the Queen also tourud the recently inaugurated Ilulissat Icefjord Center focusing on the Arctic environment which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
I love that red sweater!
ReplyDeleteProbably it's an old coat but wearing a coat of seal fur is nowadays not done. The EU intruduced an import ban on seal fur years ago.
ReplyDeleteThe kingdom of Denmark is not the top for respecting animals...
DeleteI am quite sure, her Majesty does wear the seal fur on purpose. She has always made a point to support sustainable inuit handicraft. She is the queen of Greenland, she is 81 years old and she sure knows what is legal and illegal. And it is a beautiful coat.
Delete“All sealskin processed by Great Greenland is caught by Greenlandic Inuit hunters alongside the Greenlandic coast. All skins are tanned at Great Greenland's tanning facilities in South Greenland. All sealskins comply with EU legislations. Only Inuit hunted sealskins are approved for sale, production and import in the EU. See more on the EU official website. Support the greenlandic seal hunters - for the benefit of Greenland.”
Sadly enough, anony17:24 is right.
DeleteI just read an article from 1983 in which the author remarked that she wore a sealskin coat. So I suppose it's an old one - she wore it again in 2017, probably thinking she'd put it to good use.
DeleteIt seems that the ban on seal skin trade was regarded as a bit problematic by Inuit hunters, who hunted seals anyway and would have been able to generate a bit more income by selling the sealskins. What an interesting perspective, never thought of it before, but since this is about fashion and not the fur trade, I'll stop right now. :-)
Queen Margrethe
Deletehas more than 10 fur coats and capes and she uses them all ! The last new fur coat was a present to her 80th birthday. The Danes and the media do not criticize their Majesty !
Mille
I am not justifying the Queen for these furs of course and I myself support wildlife protection.
DeleteHowever, please, let's consider all the genuine leather pants, clothes in general, shoes and bags too, which we can see on ALL the other royal ladies.
They are made of animal skins too.
We should be able to criticize them as well( I for one).
P.
A lucky woman to be able to make such an interesting trip !
ReplyDeleteIsa
Je n'arrive pas à voir le port de la fourrure peu importe de quel animal elle provient ; ces nuances de couleur rouge jusque dans le bonnet vont à merveille à la Reine !
ReplyDeleteLe pellicce sono vere? 😑
ReplyDeleteA bit off "fashion" topic but in January 2022 the Queen will celebrate her 50th anniversary as Queen of Denmark.
ReplyDeleteThe official programme has been published with lots of gala dinners, concerts etc. expected.
I sure the seamstresses must be working overtime to have all the royals decked out in their best.
Visits from other European royals.
Many celebrations throughout 2022
