On September 19, 2021, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, accompanied by Crown Princess Elisabeth, Prince Emmanuel and Princess Eleonore, cycled through Ghent on the occasion of the Car Free Sunday. On that Sunday, car traffic was not allowed in Ghent. The ban applied to all motor vehicles. The event was held country-wide in many cities and towns in Belgium.
During this cycling tour, they stopped at the Boekentoren (UGent) that recently reopened to the public after nine years of restoration work. The Boekentoren is a famous building located in Ghent, designed by the Belgian architect Henry van de Velde. It is part of the Ghent University Library and currently houses 3 million books. Queen Mathilde wore a new castaly embroidered shirt by Dries van Noten.
The shirt looks very good on the Queen.
ReplyDeleteI really like Mathilde´s outfit here. Lovely AND functional. All the other outfits look fine but mainly functional. The king maybe not even functional - I wouldn´t ride my bike in a blazer/jacket. I do like his shades though.
ReplyDeleteMathilde had such a good blouse here, and she ruined it. The blouse on the model is longer by several inches, as long as the sleeves. That is what she needs. She needs to wear clothes that give an illusion of elongating her torso. She has altered the blouse, removing that necessary length, so she looks as she always does in pants -- all legs. The embroidered panel on the front of the blouse gives a slimming effect, and the gathered mini-peplum under the embroidery gives her body a little shape that she needs. Philippe looks silly in a jacket. It gives him that "out of touch with the people" vibe. He is lucky to have his family to help him bridge the gap. All in all, it is great that the family is participating. ~d
ReplyDeleteYou are right about King Philippe, he should look to what his childeren are wearing for biking : a sweatshirt or poloshirt would be nice. And Queen Mathilde's blouse is a bit too short. She made that mistake earlier with other tops. I wonder who is given her advice in that matter. MJ

Must say it's a rarity to see Mathilde dressed like this but she rocks it. It's flattering to her tall lean figure and is casually stylish as well as obviously functional for exercise. She should dress down more like this.

I love this family. They are everything royalty should be...accessible and warm but also dignified and discreet.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree!

Great family photos. Lovel the one of Prince Emmanuel with his arm round his Mum and his sister.
ReplyDeleteThe queen's blouse is very pretty and has a Middle Eastern vibe. I can picture Queen Rania wearing it too.
