On September 12, 2021, Queen Mathilde of Belgium took part in the 41st edition of the Brussels' 20km Run at Cinquantenaire Park in Brussels. The running race has a distance of 20.1 km and has been held each year in Brussels since 1980. This year, the race allowed walkers as well as runners and the four hour duration of the run was extended to six hours.

    It´s getting ridiculous with those masks. They hardly ever make sense the way they´re used by the general population these days, they have never made sense outdoors, and their use is outright counterproductive in connection with a 20km run, or walk, or any sports activity. There was clearly no obligation to wear one, so why the virtue-signalling?

      She wore her mask when she was in a group setting closer to people. Some experts do recommend wearing a mask outside. Mathilde may be being extra cautious due to the recent Covid case in her family.
