On August 10, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima held a reception at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague in order to congratulate the athletes who won medals in the 2020 Summer Olympics that took place in Tokyo. The Netherlands team won 36 medals during the olympic games in Japan and finished in seventh place in the medal standings. In terms of number of medals, this is the best performance ever for the Netherlands.
NATAN Taffeta dress
Love the bright summery colour, hate the tent.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Lovely colour and works so well with her shoes, hair and sun tan!
DeleteThe King looks better he too, though I don't like the beard.
His looks has been rather unpolished for a long time, but now it seems to be in the right direction for him.. ;-)
Unfortunately the dress looks like a blue pup tent.
ReplyDeleteMarie
I like! Especially the color.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really awfull dress,
ReplyDeleteJosh
This is a no for me, the fabric is too shiny for a day event, the oversize belt buckle is distracting and unflattering, interestingly enough it looks good on the model with a 50’s vibe, but not on Máxima. If one must wear pantyhose, there are many high quality brands that can make mature legs look good, but the overly shiny style that she is wearing are just terrible. The hair as usual doesn’t help. On a positive note, I think the color is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteCherry
"If one must wear pantyhose..."🤣 I was going there myself. I was thinking she may feel that the shine add to the celebratory mood, but she wears them for all occasions. ~d
DeleteI agree. These dresses are good on women who are extremely thin. And the shiny pantyhose was fashion in the eighties. Nowadays like you wrote there are high quality brands that make pantyhose of such a high quality you can't see you are wearing them. Marcy
DeleteI agree on all counts and for me the shoes are wrong too for the occasion. There must be another style that would look better?
DeleteThe color is fantastic, and the idea was there, but the execution totally failed. The shirtdress style is great. However, it goes all wrong with the shiny fabric and bad tailoring. And take that belt down a few sizes, lol. It could have been such a great dress.
ReplyDeleteChel
Lovely dress. Perfect cut. This color is great on her. They both look fantastic.
ReplyDeleteOh, how happy I am to see Maxima back again! Wonderful colour of dress which contrasts beautifully with the orange of the Olympic team. Unfortunately, as many posters above have already stated, it is not flattering in shape, fabric or with that huge belt. I don't really care. Just glad to see her again.
ReplyDeleteYes, AnnieM.
DeleteMe too. I'm so pleased to see her back.
I've had to put a few drops of oil on my keyboard as it was starting to go rusty without Maxima.
I'm going to be kind to her as I think she gives priority to her work and is always doing the job with a smile on her face.
Fashion is just a hit and miss thing with her.
Happy continuation dear Queen Maxima.
This dress is not for her! And those hairs are a horror! She is going to go bald !!!
ReplyDeleteSusana
Too shiny, both nylons and dress material.
ReplyDeleteSlit, WAY too high for a married Queen.
Hair, a mess as usual.
Belt, too big.
Color of dress fabric: great.
Slit too high for a married Queen?
DeleteLetizia did the sane a feq days ago.
Where do you live e in what century?
LOL!
What a spectacular dress! The Queen has such class and carries herself so regally that she would look beautiful in a paper sack but this outfit is gorgeous and regal!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree.
DeleteI agree, Astrid.

Well said!!
DeleteHer hair, the tent dress, the huge belt, the shiny hose...
ReplyDeleteThe mismatched blue colors of the king and queen's outfits.....
Kudos to the athletes!
Maxima looks great in that dress.
ReplyDeleteAva
I agree with Ava, everything is not perfect with the dress, but the overall impression is good; glad to see it again.
DeleteI also agree with both of you.

I'm mad for the pinstriped suits of the athletes :0 !!
ReplyDeleteI'm mad for the pinstriped suits of the athletes :0 !!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to see that they honored their Olympians. They really did very well. The only thing I would add to the comments about Maxima's dress is that I think this was a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. A gust of wind and Maxima in just the right position and we would have seen a little more than we ever wanted to. The skirt needs to be fastened lower down to prevent the skirt from blowing completely open. Again, I must question Natan. This dress is worn by a queen. Was no thought given to this? ~d
ReplyDeleteIn answer to the above, NO the house of Natan can not think. The acquire high quality fabrics mostly in what appears to be silk and then proceed to ruin them with no clue how to tailor and pure carelessness in execution. Just look at how that hem hangs down at the back. The hem puckers at the front and it is either machine stitched or from pressing the edges the line of the bottom seam or hem is showing. I can't see which but where the skirt flaps open it looks like it is lined or has a very narrow hem.
DeleteThat buckle would look OK if the sleeve cuffs were not there or the big sleeve cuffs but not gigantic buckle. One or the other less is more.
The shoes do not go with the occasion or the dress. Stilettos pumps for trotting about on the a brickwork terrace in what is actually a semi-casual summery fun meeting just does not gel. A pair of summery slightly dressy sandals would have looked better.
Wonderful dress in a vibrant spectacular colour. It could have been a few inches shorter like on the model. Agree with the comments on the shiny nylons. Indeed so many brands with fantastic nylons ( 8 -10 denier) that you cannot see someone wearing them.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress but hate, hate the shiny pantihose. It looks terrible with a dress with short sleeves.
ReplyDeleteGenuine question--what is the connection between her tights (pantyhose) and short sleeves?
DeleteReally summer oympics 2020???
ReplyDeleteOlympia
"Dear Helen
DeleteI think you made a small typing error - it should be 2021 not 2020. "
I think that's more helpful, @Olympia
G
Yes, Tokyo 2020. That's what the games were called, even though they took place a year later than planned.
DeleteYes. Summer Olympics 2020.
DeleteEven though they were postponed to 2021, they kept the name of 2020, if that's what you're getting at.
- Anon 9:13
Yes Olympia. That is the official name of this year’s Olympics, despite the fact that we are in 2021. Rachel.
DeleteYes it was the 2020 Olympics just delayed for a year.
Delete@Olympia, yes they are called Olympics 2020, because they were postponed and have been celebrated in 2021. It helps to read and be informed before posting sarcastic comments😉
DeleteCB
An extra voice to confirm Olympics 2020, indeed.
DeleteObviously she is not comfortable in her high heels, her hair is horrible. Do they not have a hairdresser in the king's palace? The dress slit goes too high showing a rather fat knee. All in all she looks (as usual) as a bank employee she used to be and not nearly as a queen.
ReplyDeleteUgh! How is it obvious that she is uncomfortable in her high heels? I am afraid I don't see a fat knee. Maybe there are pictures elsewhere that I haven't seen. Even if there were, I still wouldn't say such a thing. ~d
DeleteFat knee, bank employee?
DeleteGlasses and correct information needed.
Mir gefällt das Kleid, vor allem die Farbe.
ReplyDeleteDie glänzenden Strumpfhosen hätte es nicht gebraucht.
Aber was nützt ein schönes Kleid mit so einer Frisur?
lisa
I think she looks fabulous - love the dress and the colour. Minor quibbles: possibly slightly too shiny for the daytime. The slit is easily resolved - a couple of well-placed stitches or even a safety pin. Hair - usual thoughts, not really worth saying anything.
ReplyDeleteBee
Dislike the high slit, if one of the British Royals did that, can you imagine the negative comments. She knew it was there, could have had them tack it down, so there would not be a oops moment.
ReplyDeleteDislike the hair, the shiny stockings and material on her dress. The color of the dress in good, but the buckle is beyond silly.
Smiles are great all the way around.
Athletes, you all did a fabulous job of representing your country. Thank You.
Personally I assure you that I try to comment with maximum objectivity; I seem to remember that we have seen Dss Catherine with a similar slit without causing any problem.
DeleteBut I don't think we can expect Qn Maxima to place stitches on a dress, as suggested. She definitely does not really have a "traditional queen look" here and that is ok for me; she is allowed to choose the style she wants, on official occasions she is perfect.
On this particular case I however think the royal couple could have chosen a more environmentally friendly schedule, ie postposing the event until they were back from holiday instead of travelling back from Greece and return, as it is mentioned in the press. It would also have been more cost effective. I am aware that my comment is outside the area of fashion but I wanted to say so. That is apparently how the Belgian RF will proceed.
Queen Maxima is a standout ;I love the dress. The athletes did the country proud
ReplyDeleteThe King looks pretty relaxed in his summer suit.
I think the real tragedy here are the "Gawd" awful outfits the athletes are wearing! :-O At what point did someone look at these and say, "Oh yeah. These will look great on them!" LOL. All things considered, Maxima looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteEuropa
I love the orange pinstripe suits! A nice twist to a classic suit.
DeleteLoM
You liked her ugly dress but didn't like the amazing outfits worn by the athletes? You got some weird taste.
DeleteI didn't care for the dress on the Queen but loved the orange jumpsuits on the women.
