  1. The First Lady is a very beautiful person (movie-starmaterial:))
Her dress is a special one, very smart choice.
Princess Mary has a vibrant personality and exudes inner beauty.
I think she is trying to hard to be the most beautiful with a youth look.
Sorry she isn't and the trousers aren't helpful. Good on a young person, not on her. Would I be her I would invest in a shorter (sometimes) curly hair and (now and then) in a bun. Fashion wise she can improve a lot by wearing more skirts and less very high heels.( a different heel would be better).

  2. This outfit is beautiful on Mary. I like these wide leg trousers so much better than the ones she wore the other day. They have such an elegant cut and proportion. The top is a fantastic choice, great soft color to add to the classy style of the pants. As for the Icelanic First Lady's outfit, I'm not sold on the length.

Mary's trousers aren't looking good on her. Does she think she is some kind of Marlene Dietrich or a 18 year old? No she is a princess and has to dress like one.
Therefor the First Lady has a very good fashion-sense, lovely.

  5. These kind of pants seem to be her favourite now. I do admit I don't like them, but Mary looks good in everything.

    1. @Coralie. I don't know if they are her favourite but I think when she was doing some shopping with her daughter during their summer holidays in Tisvilde, Denmark (see photos NewMyRoyals 05 August), Mary must have stumbled on a bargain offer for baggy pants, that is, "buy one pair and the second pair are free".
I give her top marks for not burning a hole in her hubby's wallet.
      Bravo Princess Mary.
And I agree Coralie, Princess Mary looks good in everything, baggy pants and all.

CP Mary is and will always be a big money spendor.
To be a fashion icon like Lady Di is important for her.
She will visit Milan fashion, Italy, this week.

Not fond of Princess Mary's 2nd pair of wide trousers this week. However the dusty pink color of the blouse is beautiful, just not with white accents on the collar and sleeve, makes it look disjointed.

The other woman in the photo, her pants and entire outfit are a no. The fabric way too fussy, and the bottom of the pants, should be left to sports pants. jj

  7. I like a wider leg but this is just too much. It looks silly, especially next to Fredrik´s skinny trousers. Luckily for Mary, the Icelandic president´s wife looks even sillier.

    1. I had a good laugh I more or less agree with Vanessa but had not thought of the word silly. I usually love wide legged trousers but I think this particular pair of Mary's are just too wide in the hip area making them look like big sisters trousers and she pulled the belt in tight to stop them falling down. I think that if the area from the waist to the top of the thighs was more fitted and then widened they would have been lovely.
I don't know what possessed the first lady to pull her trousers in either with a band or just tucked into het boots but she would have pulled it off with great elegance had the trousers just gone straight down over her boots. As Vanessa said it looks silly.

    1. I complete my comment. Basically I am not a fan of the very wide pants; they are an invention of fashion, which in itself is suspicious. They are difficult to wear. They are not helping comfort, contrary to what could be thought, the belt area is often very tight. I think they are still ok, but together with the very strict blouse, they don't really favor her... And trying to keep the bottom hem clean, is quite a job.

Mary is in general very well dressed. But these white pants are a no for me. And the top looks very strict. Sometimes with this type of blouse I have the feeling that she is copying Kate a bit

Mary should have read our comments about her pink trousers few days ago.

  11. It's too much trousers. Maybe her total look is better if she would cut her hair,
Her husbans looks like his own self!

  13. It always makes me smile when there are comments on this blog and a few days later, it seems that the relevant royals respond!! The other day, someone asked why we don't see more of Crown Prince Fredrik and voila, here he is!

I think I was in the minority of liking the pink trousers with the fabulous pink heels that Crown Princess Mary wore the other day, but these are even better. Great trousers which look so elegant. Not really sure if there's much positive to say about the Icelandic President's wife--perhaps the pattern would have been okay in smaller quantities?

The outfit seems somewhat informal for this event but I totally disagree with the comments of Linda and Anna who think wide legged trousers are for the young. Why? I am more than 10 years older than Mary and wide legged trousers with high heels are one of my favourite (and in my view!!) smarter outfits. Look at the elegant women of the 1930s, when this style was originally fashionable and they were certainly all wonderfully elegant but not necessarily young.

I actually like the trousers very much, I find wide leg/palazzo pants rather elegant they aren’t for everybody’s body( neither are skinny ones) but Mary has the right figure for them. They have the perfect length for the style and the belt helps to emphasize her small waist, very well paired with a tailored blouse. I must say that I disagree with the ageist comments, no, there is age limit to wear wide pants, is a question of whether a style is flattering, also Mary is still a young woman in my book.
I do not like Mrs Reidon’s outfit, the print is fine, but the tucked pants remind me of a commando style which I don’t hate on a casual occasion, possibly paired with combat boots, but the print and style of this jumper do not go well with such, here is the perfect example where a wide leg would have made the sense.

  16. Awful outfits on both counts. The first Lady's combat pants look ridiculous, and the pattern reminds me of lightening and/ or dizziness.
Mary's long column pants are equally bad, and the little girl blouse looks just boring.
She should also do something with her hair, a shorter cut with some bounce would be so much more flattering.
The King should ditch the skinny pants and go for a straight leg.

    1. As I can read your comments is on the hyper conservative and traditional side. By the way Frederic is not yet the King, remember that.

I saw these photos when first posted and wasn't going to post. I thought enough had been said about wide legged trousers. Apparently not. What I notice, time after time, is that everything out of the boring usual is disliked. Mary looks fantastic and is wearing the pants beautifully, belt included. They are the correct length and the cut is wonderful on her. It is disappointing that age is still being attached to fashion so strictly. Not all fashion is for all ages, but trends can be modified to suit many ages. There is a lot of black and white thinking here. The woman next to Mary, Eliza Jean Reidon, is dressed terribly. She reminds me of a paratrooper sans parachute. ~d

What was she thinking;had this been a maxi skirt it would have had style. The fact that her blouse is tucked into the pants makes it look even worse. I like Prince Frederik's suit . Is that other lady wearing a combat suit,or a jumpsuit, things must be different in Iceland.I like the decor on the stairs;plants etc.
