Queen Letizia’s grandmother, Menchu Alvarez de Valle, has passed away at the age of 93. Queen Letizia was very close to her paternal grandmother and followed in her footsteps as a journalist. The Queen's grandmother was born in 1928 in Santander. At a young age, she moved to Oviedo in Asturias, where she started her journalism career.
Menchu Alvarez de Valle worked in many radio broadcast stations including Radio Asturias and Radio Nacional de Espana. In 1949, she got married to Jose Luis Ortiz Velasco. With her husband, she had two daughters and a son, Jesus Jose Ortiz Alvarez, the father of Queen Letizia. Both Queen Letizia's father and the Queen herself became journalists. Menchu Alvarez was one of the best-known voices in Spanish radio world and retired in 1990.
Bardzo smutna wiadomość. Przykro. Współczucie.

It is sad news. The queen was very close to her grandmother Menchu and her great-aunt Marisol, both of whom aroused her interest in journalism. Family of strong and independent women. Letizia loved her grandmother. Rest in Peace.
