On June 11, 2021, The Duchess of Cambridge and First Lady of the US Dr Jill Biden visited Connor Downs Academy in Hayle. The Duchess and First Lady Dr Biden toured a classroom, meeting some of the pupils from the school's Reception class. The Duchess and Dr Biden then attended a roundtable discussion with a number of representatives from the early years sector. The Duchess wore a new midi pencil dress from Alexander McQueen. First Lady Jill Biden wore a pink tweed blazer from L'agence.

Shoulders pads and A style dress does not flatter her straight figure. if the bottom half was free style like Jill Biden's dress that would be better
ReplyDeletejen.
Agree with you about the shoulder pads- I think they are really throwing it off, especially combined with that neckline. Love the rest of her dress though- neckline, style and color. She has looked great in this style dress- the bright yellow Dolce & Gabanna at Wimbledon, the Roksanda Illincic color block in Australia, the LK Bennett blue Detroit dress (worn most memorably for the Tower’s field of poppies) or the LK Bennett blue poppies dress in Australia, are all (IMHO) very flattering looks on her.

No shoulder pads, no belt and a bit shorter would be better.
DeleteFirst of all, how lovely to see these two ladies together. I'm sure that on at least some levels, they would have quite a lot to talk about. The nurture/nourish element I imagine would be quite strong between them.
ReplyDeleteBoth are dressed smartly. I'd have liked Dr. Bidens skirt length to be just a tad longer, though in the style of Mme. Macron and Camilla, I suppose the length is ok. Catherine's pencil dress is a little too 'pencil-ily' for me; the mono-chrome of the outfit makes her look extra tall and slender which she is. I like the black belt on the model, which adds shape and focus.
Looking forward to more opportunities for other first ladies and royals to come together during this UK hosted G7 summit.

I do not like the wide shoulders and the big hair together. It is too much. The colour and the length suit her wonderfully. CC
ReplyDeleteLovely dress that shows her figure beautifully. Great tailoring from McQueen and nice color.
ReplyDeleteMary
Agree with Mary!
DeleteNice event!
ReplyDelete(I wish Jill Biden had tailored her jacket to fit instead of turning of the sleeves tho).
I agree. While the lining is pretty, the sleeves are not designed to be turned up. The jacket is very attractive, but I think a little long for the dress. The proportions look a little off to me. ~d
DeleteLove the dress. I do like the shoulders personally as it gives it a more dressy look. I am impressed with Kate's professional handling of the media when asked a very inappropriate question about Harry's baby. She was very kind and quick to answer. That journalist should be fired. Ann B
ReplyDeleteI also don't like this dress and especially in this length for the Duchess. A shorter length, another colour for the belt, a bit deeper neckline, whatever - everything that would break up this long red monotonous column of a dress would be welcome. (-Ann.)
ReplyDeleteI have very similar views on Catherine's dress.
DeleteBoth ladies are dressed well, though one quibble. The carrots are too long, too big/thick for bunnies to eat, they prefer smaller portions. Jill's dress was too short for her age. It does not matter who else wore theirs short, I feel its just not dignified somehow. jj
ReplyDeleteI agree, jj. Jill has nice legs, but they show her age (I say this as an old gal myself). The skirt is too short & too flouncy. We might deny that we're old; but there really are some things we should not wear anymore. ~Laurel~
DeleteKate looks elegant, chic and oh so pretty!love the color, the style and those shoulder pads are just perfect for her figure, although lot of women can’t carry it.
ReplyDeleteJill Biden’s dress is also very chic, and age appropriate, although I would add a couple of centimeters, the jacket is also very flattering.
Wow, Anne B, we don’t live in Rusia or N. Korea where journalist are fired, incarcerated or worse, there was absolutely nothing wrong with asking the duchess about her new niece, the question is only inappropriate in the people that always see drama, she has been asked before about her sister’s children , furthermore the Royals should be given the same respect that anybody else, but they aren’t Gods that can’t be approached, after all they exist because the people allow them to be. Of course Catherine responded with her usual good manners.
What an amazing host Kate is and so diplomatic too!!
ReplyDeleteA breath of fresh air.
Dr Jill Biden is lovely.

Love red and love this dress so much, although as I am nearer Dr Biden's age than Catherine's, there's no way I could wear it and look so smart. I liked her hair better pulled back form her face, the way she wore it in Scotland, especially while mask wearing remains a thing. I also like the colour of Dr Biden's jacket and its pairing with the white dress. However, while she has enviously good legs, I agree with Laurel that the dress needs to be longer and less flouncy to be elegant.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that Jill Biden's dress and jacket go well together. The dress is too short with the mid-length, boxy jacket....not a good combination.

What a concept, that she somehow must cover her legs because she is older. Doctor Jill Biden is a a woman that dresses appropriately for her figure and age, the length of her dress is mid-knee which personally is not my favorite but in any way, shape or form is unpleasant to the eye, by the way cover y similar to the rest of the mature royals.
ReplyDelete@Ann B, where in the heck is asking Catherine for her new niece is a cause for firing a journalist? There are many reasons to get rid of some trashy wanna-be journalist, like lying, cheating, inventing rumors, using slurs and judgement in order to sell to the consumers of garbage, but this? She was asked before about the birth of her other niece/nephew, why is this different?
MM
I don't see why older women should not wear knee length skirts, given the aesthetic properties of legs and knees are appealing to the eye - or even extraordinary, like in the case of Madame Macron, it would be a pity to hide those wonderfully shaped flawless legs! :-) Dr. Jill's skirt is, in my eyes, knee length. I mean, we are not talking about string tangas, only about mid-knee or knee length skirts that should be allowed to be just a bit bouncy instead of straight. To be old is not really the same as to be devoid of every rest of aesthetic qualities and therefore restricted to hiding as much as possible, even if unnecessary. - Only my humble opinion as an older woman ... (-Ann.)
ReplyDeleteThis dress does nothing for her broad-shouldered figure and smaller waist. Kate has an inverted triangle shaped body and this does not suit her at all.
ReplyDeleteHow does she manage to see herself in an old style, when the dress is new? That hair, I should do something with it
Susana

Thank goodness we don’t live in medieval times when the peasants couldn’t look at the Royals and had to lay face down in order not to offend them, or be sent to the gallows 😜
ReplyDeleteRude is to ask somebody about their weight, age, love interests, how much money they earn… you get it ….
Fire a journalist for asking about such normal happy event? On the other hand I am sure that lots of people would like a little bit of drama and dysfunction, so you can continue with the gossip.
Susana.
Dr Biden looks lovely. I find that the colour of Catherine’s dress suits her, but not the dress...it emphasizes her long torso and thinness. Judy
ReplyDeleteKate's dress is beautiful shows her slim silhouette figure. The hemline is elegant. Pure English class. Jill Biden's hair is a mess doesn't suit her age. She could invest in a stylist. Mary I

DeleteI agree with you completely.
Pure English class.
Kate manners are exquisite.
She shines like a diamond.

I was going to suggest a stylist for Dr. Biden also. She should be wearing nude sockings and while the color of her blazer is good, it would look better with a pencil skirt or straight skirted dress.
ReplyDeleteTwo outfit , two failure. Neither of them is suitable for the wearer's body type. The only thing I really like here are Mrs Biden's lovely shoes. -Siri
ReplyDeleteActually loved Catherine's dress. The Colour and the neckline in particular were gorgeous. I'm always lowkey disappointed when I see her in beige pumps and then read they are not L.K. Bennett. But her purse is, I guess. Very well put together as always. – S
ReplyDeleteI think Kate's dress looks very elegant on her, the colour is fabulous, the square shoulders help to give her more shape.,
ReplyDeleteHer posture in that chair is amazing, well done for the work she has done on herself, her confidence has just skyrocketed, she is doing a great job.
Indeed!
DeleteI can only agree with you.
