On June 11, 2021, Queen Mathilde of Belgium visited the Circus School of Brussels (Ecole de Cirque de Bruxelles). The Queen participated in the HandiCirque workshop, a circus workshop for children and adults with disabilities. The École de Cirque de Bruxelles receives about fifteen groups from different institutions every week. The Queen also attended the rehearsal of students in training. This training aims at a methodological, didactic and creative approach to the circus arts and trains future trainers in motor skills and creativity. Queen Mathilde wore a new willow patterns midi dress from Diane Von Furstenberg.

I know that Mathilde favours high waisted clothes..but this dress starts the flaring of the skirt from way up high. That's a lot of material and you can see it. In some photos it looks like she's wearing a bustle.
ReplyDeleteKudos to her though for sitting on the mat. Not always easy to do, nor to rise up from that seated position gracefully.

I agree, too much fabric.

Anon 9:13 - Mathilde is quite short-waisted & heavier on the bottom. I don't think she has much choice in the matter. I don't understand that someone out there has not helped her dress better for her figure. Other than that, I quite like the dress (on the model). ~Laurel~
DeleteNice summer dress overall, quite trendy. I am not sure it is adequate to visit a circus school, where she meets sport oriented people. To me such a dress is more appropriate for a formal occasion. Too much material!? The question imv is more that we were no longer used to have that sort of design. I am experiencing that myself today, my dress has more material than any I have had in the last 20 years, roughly.
DeleteThe combination with the coordinated blue shoes makes it even more sophisticated.
Lovely dress, lovely colour, lovely shoes. Think this is summery and classy and easily one of the nicest outfits I've seen on Queen Mathilde for a long time.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree. I especially love how it drapes down in the first seated pic framing those lovely blue shoes. Also a great dress (higher neck, longer full skirt hem) for what the visit required- bending down and being on the floor. The color is just great on her too.

I think the pattern and colours really suit her but the style of that dress absolutely not. It makes her look about four times as brad in the beam than she actually is and those baby puffed sleeves are not for someone over fifty and so large a person. A deep V neckline and dolman sleeves would have looked far better,
ReplyDeleteThe dress is very beautiful, somewhat ornate with flowers or color, but Mathilde does not understand that she has no body for this type of dress. Anyway, she goes correct and if she likes it, no problem

Jolies couleurs, jolie forme pour cette robe portée par la Princesse Mathilde, toujours très féminine, et agréable à regarder.

Lovely colors, summery. The Queen looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGood look, just a tad too long. Mid calf would have been better!
ReplyDeleteI quite like this one summery Mary I
ReplyDeleteI think there are a few positives. Firstly, it is not a Natan "creation". Obvious from first sight.😀 Mathilde can't do without belting her clothes. This belt is said to be removable, but here we are again. Each time she belts her clothes, she is showing us where her waist is. Better to avoid belting. The positive is that it disappears into the print of the fabric. It could have been much worse. The other positive is that the dress is not too tight on her mid section or hips. Too often we see her in clothes she has outgrown. The rest of the dress is a problem for me. I don't like the sleeves for her. A more substantial, longer sleeve would have made this look more age appropriate and provided more balance between the top and bottom of the dress. I also think there is a little too much volume in the skirt for her. An A line is very flattering for her, but just a little less would have been better. She should not add volume to her hips. I adore her bracelet. Great piece! ~d
ReplyDeleteThe dress is for a younger person, and people approaching their 50th birthday are not 25. It's a fact of life, and neither good or bad. It seems she has gained weight since her wedding over 20 years ago, and that happens to most people, and is another fact of life. When women gain weight, it tends to go to the hips and waist first, and the most narrow part of the body shifts higher. With Mathilde her waist has 'climbed', as it were, straight under her breasts, but she seems not to accept it. She just wears a belt under her breasts. - I think the dress is lovely and Mathilde is lovely, but together they are not lovely. Her shoes are lovely, either way. - Ellie
