Queen Elizabeth II hosted US President, Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at Windsor Castle for their first official meeting. The President arrived from Cornwall where he attended the G7 Leader's Summit. US President and First Lady were welcomed by a Guard of Honour in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle as they arrived, where the Queen’s Company First Battalion Grenadier Guards gave a royal salute, and the US National Anthem was played.
Lovely summery pink dress. The Queen looks like the personification of summer. I like the colour of Dr Biden's suit but I think it would look better with the jacket unfastened.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree that HM Queen Elizabeth looks fantastic in this dress. So happy to see her in some bright colors (after her mourning period).

A great smile - Queen Elisabeth II is looking beautiful.

ReplyDeleteGood attempt with a two piece and great colour and accessories. Plus points for the brooch. However the fit is not good, which is the most important of all: jacket is too tight and sleeves too long. It’s also looks too hot.
ReplyDeleteHer Maj is looking ravishingly good in flowering fuchisia.
Sunglasses belongs on the beech or on holiday. Otherwise he looks good. At least he is not orange or yellow! But never touch the Queen!
Comment about sunglasses only for beach or on holiday is very silly. There are enough photographs of the queen wearing sunglasses on official tours when there has been a glare and the sun was bothering her. There could be a very good reason why the sun was bothering Mr. Biden that you are not aware of.
DeleteSunglasses are absolutely not for for just the beach or holidays. Sunglasses should be worn everyday use to help prevent skin cancer. I wear sunglasses everyday as I have issues with glare causing headaches, but they are also contain my prescription so I can actually see into the distance when I am outside and driving.
DeleteKnowing Windsor Castle quite well, I have to say that the sun sets exactly opposite to the dais erected, and was quite low and glaring at the time of the event. One had to look directly towards the sun when watching the troops. If you have very sensitive eyes you should wear sunglasses, of course. Her Majesty had the advantage of her brimmed hat, so that was like a little sunshield to her. President Biden did nothing out of protocol, he was just protecting his eyes as he should.
DeleteI agree that the jacket doesn't fit right, and remember yesterday her pink jacket didn't fit either. Jill Biden needs a good tailor.
DeleteBut I think the sunglasses are ok.
The Queen looked lovely in her pink floral dress, her hat, and brooch (is it one of the Nizam Hyderabad Rose brooches?). Mrs. Biden's suit is pretty but would have looked better if the jacket had been unbuttoned. The president's blue suit and tie matched the blue of his wife's suit. He looks sharp.
ReplyDeleteHM The Queen was wearing the Jardine Star Brooch to this event.
DeleteCan only agree on views expressed here above. Would it be too strong to say that the fitting of Dr Biden's suit is among the poorest we have seen in a while from any royal lady? I have respect and sympathy for her but shouldn't she try to improve her style for future events. This suit could actually be quite nice.
DeleteI have to make a correction : I meant "poorest fit", as said earlier the choice was actually good.
DeleteLove the color of Queen Elizabeth’s dress and Dr Biden’s suit but the suit jacket is too tight on her, the length is fine though. The smiles are lovely also .

ReplyDeleteQueen looks lovely. Agree with Mikey 322 Jill Biden's outfit nice colour, fit & style only jacket is tight. The outfit is age appropriate. Jill needs to neaten get hair though. Mary I
ReplyDeleteToo much blue on Jill Biden and the jacket is too tight.

The Queen looks wonderful. Nice summery fabric and a happy colour. I admire her more and more.
ReplyDeleteThe first lady looks good too, fresh blue colour. But the blazer is a bit too tight and a shorter one would've looked better.
I remember when First Lady Michelle Obama put her arm around the Queen and the Queen responded warmly by putting her arm around Mrs. Obama. It was a touching moment between two special ladies!
ReplyDeleteHM looks beautiful--truly pretty in pink! Dr. Biden looks lovely--the soft blue suits her. I'm looking at the jacket to see what other posters are seeing--that the jacket is too tight. I think jacket fits just fine--in my opinion the issue is that Dr. Biden is short-waisted. But, the idea that it would work better unbuttoned is a very good one. President Biden looks sharp in his blue suit--and I like how he has matched his tie color with Dr. Biden's ensemble. Its nice to see the genuine, relaxed smiles from all 3 too.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Biden's jacket does not fit perfectly, but I don't think that it is simply too tight. Just have a look at both sides just above the waist, somehow a bit too much fabric there but not because it is too tight. Maybe simply pret-a-porter and she did not care enough to have it fitted. Color and style are nevertheless lovely. (-Ann)
ReplyDeleteMrs. Biden's legs are fantastic for her age (don't come down on me like a ton of bricks, I am in my 60's and almost all my contemporaries suffer from varicose veins to one degree or another), but I think they would look even better if encased in sheer nylons. Have never understood this trend among the royal ladies of going barefoot and bare-legged in high heels in all kinds of weather. Personally my feet tend to sweat and then stick to the inside of the shoe, how uncomfortable and unnecessary! Open sandals in hot weather are another thing altogether. S.M.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! I just noticed a bandaid on Jill's right shin. She definitely should have worn stockings to help camouflage the bandaid. S.M.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised about so many usual criticism on stockings or bare-legged, the color of stockings is hardly never good, except the black ones in winter, and bare is not good. Nude but which nude ?
DeleteAs small bandaid is not a dishonor in my view, on this occasion weather conditions were in favor of bare. Yes Jill has fine legs.
Her majesty’s Stuart Parvin dress is such a happy summertime look. The first lady’s suit is very appropriate and subdued, unlike some of her predecessor’s it’s not about showing off her figure or money (although she has both) but rather about being in a supporting role.

I appreciate your comment, CH. I think it is easy to be convinced that the first Lady has a strong and friendly personality, and places her values at a high level. My impression is however that it is not incompatible with avoiding basic mistakes. I even think that her supplier would be delighted to be helpful in this respect, either suggesting an adaptation or providing some advice. I feel most women having any public relations position (that was my case) would care for basic fitting requirements, eg adjusting the position of a button or more if needed.
DeleteHer Majesty Queen Elizabeth looks so stylish. Not much imagination in Jill's dress,(at the top level of life in the US we have come to expect style and sophistication ;look at Jackie Kennedy) she might have cut her leg shaving them, hence the bandaid, her legs look quite unflattering. I prefer women to wear silky hoisery it takes away the scary leg look.
ReplyDeleteIf I was representing the U. S. as First Lady and meeting the Queen of England, I would have worn nylons and definitely clothing that fit perfectly with styled hair, preferably worn up. Someone should be doing a better job of staffing and preping her for such an important public event.
