On the evening of June 15, 2021, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain hosted a State Dinner at the Royal Palace in Madrid, held in honour of South Korean President Moon Jae-in and First Lady Kim Jung-sook. The president of South Korea, Moon Jae-in and First Lady Kim Jung-sook, arrived in Spain on Tuesday for a three-day state visit. Queen Letizia wore a sequin embellished metallic floral print jacquard midi dress from Dries van Noten.

Époustouflante Letizia dans cette robe dont je n'arrive pas à détacher mes yeux. Belle harmonie de l'imprimé floral métallisé et les sequins ; magnifiques les nouveaux escarpins. Très élégant le style particulier de la première dame !
ReplyDeleteThe ladies look lovely and the men handsome.
ReplyDeleteNot a super formal event but all very appropriately attired.
...ck
A great dress on Letizia this time, and awful Barbie shoes that ruin your body. Why not set an example and wear physiologically reasonable shoes? The South Korean lady has an outfit that I presume would have a traditional top style. If not, it's simply pretty awful. - Ellie
ReplyDelete@Ellie, oh please….. these heels suit the dress perfectly and are to die for. Sensible shoes are for daytime walking. She will come around when she gets older. For now: she enjoys the elegance only heels can give.
DeleteLily T.
Adore these shoes and so envious that she can walk in them and still look elegant. To Lily T, I will say that some of us, even as we get older, try to maintain as high a heel as we can manage with dignity!! :-)
Credibilidad 0.
DeleteHipocresía y envidia +1000
Shoes are perfect match to the dress both in color and style. It is sad she didn't wear tiara.
DeleteDP
@Annie M. I am with you in this….. Being far past the first bloom myself, I still love wearing heels. They lift almost every outfit to a higher (!) level of elegance.
DeleteLily T.
Love! Dress fabulous, shoes to dream about, statement earrings (finally). Could have wished for a more polished up-do instead of the center part with messy bun, but a minor quibble. S.M.
ReplyDeleteAgree about the bun, I saw that too.
DeleteQueen is wearing some lovely heels !
ReplyDeleteHowever, They are wearing masks at the dinning table! obviously you are going to eat without them. this is a circus now!
jill
Safety protocoles here in Europe, at least, are : wearing a mask when moving and distances cannot necessarily be kept, and later no mask when sitting and distances are safely kept. Quite logical for those who care about respecting rules. I am among those.
DeleteAdditionally: They are not eating, the King is speaking, distributing aerosoles. It is reasonable to wear a mask in that context. (-Ann)
DeleteLetizia - what a beauty!
ReplyDeleteIts not bad dress for Letizia but why she has to show off her bare arms at every opportunity? She has worked hard to gain/keep herself slim but its getting annoying to see her bare arms like everywhere. It shouldn't be about her slim and trim body. Don't like her super high heels either.
ReplyDeletePS: It looks weird to see them sitting around the table with their face masks on ;)
xKarin
What is the problem with bare arms? I mean, fashionwise, because this is what this blog is about (and not about personal likes and dislikes). The Queen has adorable perfect arms - but this, also, is simply not the topic here. (-Ann.)
DeleteIn Spain everybody wears bare arms, it must be in your country where women dress as nuns, whatever it was.
DeleteAnnoying? I have never heard a bigger nonsense in my life
MW
You sound very green ...envy? LOOl
DeleteSonia
That is what I was thinking, Sonia. It must be envy. Those arms are goals.
DeleteWhy are heels being brought up? Is she supposed to be in frumpy shoes to make women who can't wear high heels feel better? In time, her heels will become shorter. For now, rock the shoes. That dress would not look the same with lower heels. ~d
What did I just read?!
DeleteIf I had arms like that I would wear sleeveless everyday, lol. There is nothing wrong with wearing sleeveless anyway, especially in warmer climates. She looks absolutely perfect here, that is a killer look, head to toe.
DeleteChel
Awesome! It's like the shoes are made for this dress. Gorgeous! And the simply beautiful gold earrings, keeping the rest of the outfit simple... nailed it again.
ReplyDeleteThe heels are a bit too high for my taste, but that's Letizia's trademark.
Gorgeous dress, gorgeous shoes! I love her earrings. They set the right tone. Gemstone would have been too much. Her hair, pulled back, without being too formal, suits the tone of the evening. ~d
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful outfit - a perfectly-fitting dress, with interesting accessories. I think Q. Letitia looks wonderful. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteFabulous dress. It is beautifully tailored. I love the beaded detail on the sleeves- its unexpected. Earrings and shoes go perfectly with the dress. Letizia's eye make up and chignon are nicely done. The detailing on the First Lady's sleeves is pretty.
ReplyDeleteE.B.B.
Look at the Asian Ladies shoes - sensible. Letitia shoes are just ridiculous and must be torture to wear. Also, imo it just is not a good look. The dress makes her look exaggerated long and lean, and the shoes exacerbate that look. Sometimes I wonder too, if it is all about the Queens lean and trim body.
ReplyDeleteShe looked a lot better when she got married, when she was a normal healthy weight.
Another one green with envy.
DeleteObviously you have never seen a photo of Letizia at her wedding, she was very thin, nowadays she looks like more healthy. Sometime one can sound very ignorant.
Sonia
Envy..Letizia is stunning and the group of eating pizza on the sofa in a dressgown can't be more upset, all is a torture.
DeleteShe had a normal weight at her wedding?? We caught you, no idea who she is.
Ty
I totally agree with you, Marlee.
DeleteCC
The dress is lovely, but the shoes are outstanding!DIQ
ReplyDeleteLetizia looks stunning from head to toe. I want to echo what someone said above about sleeveless dresses in Spain and elsewhere where the temperatures are hot. Everyone wears sleeveless dresses for all sort of occasions. There is another sleeveless dress in the background of one of the photos. I would say that women work on their arms because sleeveless dresses are commonly worn and not that they wear sleeveless dresses because they want to show their arms. Growing up in a hot country and having lived several years in Madrid, it is more difficult to find an evening or dressy dress with sleeves than without.
ReplyDelete@Marlee, when you decide to criticize another woman’s body, at least have your facts straight. The Queen seem to have a genetic predisposition to be lean ( just look at her sister) she was just as thin at her wedding, and even more so after her second daughter was born, perhaps due to her family tragedy, the difference was that she had no muscle tone, I guess she decided to work on her body, and the result is a beautiful healthy figure.
ReplyDeleteBody shaming is unacceptable in any form.
This dress is magnificent, and the shoes are to die for, no need to wear “sensible shoes”those are a good choice for walking, working while standing or running after the bus, but there is nothing wrong with heels for just a couple of hours.
Cherry.
Totalmente de acuerdo con tu comentario. Que manía con su delgadez . Ella es así y se cuida.
DeleteParece que eso molesta a la gente. Yo no le pongo ningún pero.
Cherry, thank you for pointing out that this body shaming. For some reason, people can't seem to understand that. ~d
DeleteAs always Cherry your comments are absolutely on the mark and a pleasure to read.
DeleteGreat dress and shoes but not a fan of the messy bun look.
ReplyDeleteRenee
"ridiculous", "annoying", "awful", "messy", body shaming, age shaming ... each time I come back (because I love to chat about royal fashion - not about royal bodies) I am disappointed again in no time. There should be minimal rules here for communicating in a civilized way. (-Ann)
ReplyDeleteIl y a comme un problème avec le mauvais montage de la 5ème photo !
ReplyDeletePersonally, I like the dress but not for this occasion. I would always go for a long evening gown and something with some kind of sleeve (or of the shoulder, or...). But maybe she wanted to wear something a bit more understated for this particular visit. I also think her hair can look so much nicer than this. I do love the shoes and the earrings.
ReplyDeleteI always thought she wears such high heels to minimise the height difference with Felipe. Any reason is good for me, I wouldn't wear them myself but they suit her.
The Korean first lady wore pants, so the protocol was not a night gown. Korea is a Republic.
DeleteYy
Long dress was not an option. This is a scaled down reception due to COVID restrictions. They had just started reopening but respecting the health ministry’s guidelines.
ReplyDeleteThe Royal House established that it would be cocktail dresses for the ladies, and business suits for the gents. A regular state dinner would have required long gowns and black tie, a Royal Dinner would require tiaras and white tie,
MM

Letizia's dress is beautiful and so appropriate and fits beautifully. Messy bun, ugh
ReplyDeleteThe queen is stunning…beautiful dress, shoes, everything!! Judy
ReplyDeleteDries van Noten, such a wonderful designer, who cares about sustainability as well. What a wonderful exquisite dress. Letizia looks gorgeous
