On June 6, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden attended the celebrations of National Day 2021 held at the open door museum Skansen in Stockholm. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's National Day celebrations were limited. Skansen's founder Artur Hazelius initiated Sweden's National Day on 6 June 1893. In 1963, the celebrations were moved to Skansen. Swedish Flag Day officially became Sweden's National Day in 1983, and 6 June has been a public holiday since 2005.
She's such an attracive woman, even with that white thing on her head. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat "white thing" has a meaning. ~Laurel~
Delete"that white thing on her head" that you talk about is part of their historic culture which is well respected in Sweden.
DeleteDear quakeress@gmail.com, I hope you appreciate the information and have a nice day.
In addition to their practical utility of protecting the hair from dirt, sun, rain, etc. the headdresses of traditional costumes often give information about the marital status of the woman and are different for young unmarried girls, married women and widows. I do not know if this is true for Swedish traditional costume.
DeleteCostume national bien porté pour ces célébrations mais alors cette sorte de coiffe blanche ? Et pourquoi, les hommes n'en porteraient-ils pas un ?!
ReplyDeleteThe national costume that the ladies are wearing is created by a woman for women around 1900 and is called something like “Swedish women's national costume association's feast costume”😊. In Sweden many of our regions have their own costumed but this was created so that those women where the region did not have a signature costume could were this one. The royal ladies is wearing this I think to signal that they represent the entire country. Maybe you have seen Victoria on her official birthday celebration wearing the costume from the Island of Öland where she celebrates her birthday. There is a male version but this does not have the historical background (and looks not at all dignified 😊). The women’s costume is “formal” and therefore the men are wearing a dark suite.
DeleteDear Anonymous 7/6/21 14:59 (no nick name) Thanks for the information related to the women's costume.
DeleteIt's sad that most new world countries don't have deep rooted culture that they can respect and festivals to celebrate important dates and occasions.
I so wish the men would wear the national costume as well as the ladies.
ReplyDeleteNorway is a role model in this area, Sweden does not have the same custom with these traditional outfits.
ReplyDeleteIf Sweden does not have the same custom with traditional outfits, then why wear this strange outfit. It looks like a napkin on her head and those white round things plastered on her belt area and white stockings make the whole outfit look so wrong in so many ways. God bless CP Victoria, she wears it as well as she can.
