More Music in Classroom Foundation is campaigning for 50 days on the occasion of the 50th birthday of Queen Máxima to include more music education in the primary school curriculum. On May 10, Queen Máxima attended the celebration of new and existing agreements for structural music education at primary schools, Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe in Vesting Bourtange.

This platform aims to make structural music education accessible for all primary school children in the Netherlands.

I don't dislike what she's wearing, but find her hopelessly over-dressed for the events. - Ellie

    1. Beautiful gown that she’d have looked gorgeous in as queen. Pity!

So Maxima! Over the top over for a casual event. I suppose we can excuse her, its her 50th Birthday

  4. She has a very nice smile and seems truly delighted to participate in this event. I adore Maxima. For a night-time event this dress might be appropriate. Way over the top, in my opinion, for this engagement. The overly ornate sleeves of this dress and the metal embellishments make me think of something from Star Trek episode. I'm sure the children were in awe of this sparkling queen.

    2. Agree. Even if some people say that she's overdressed. It's such a fun dress. She looks georgeous.

  8. Elegant dress with beautiful draping. Not sure about the sleeves and I do not like the clutch. Her hair looks lovely. She is lending her name for a program and therefore the centre of attention so being overdressed does not matter. Music in primary schools seems to be an important cause for her.

  9. I thought one usually wore shiny gold shoes and a shiny gold handbag to an evening event. Somehow the fun gigantic gold braids on the dress just don't work either . It sort of looks quite nice on the full length version on the model and she could have worn it long version on the opening of parliament day including hat with long dress which I have never understood but like this it just looks strange to me at a school event.
I understand that young children like a queen to look like a queen not like mummy but this is just too much.

A great and fun look, and very Máxima! She has a flamboyant style, which I quite like. It suits her personality. And if it’s her 50th birthday, then a more festive attire is understandable.

This is a colourless, shapeless dress, made “ special” with the gold.
Maxima doesnot have the legs nor for this kind of shoes, nor for the stockings.
Hair and hat are nice, as is her make-up and smile.

Love, love, love this ensemble and joyous style statement, from chic head to chic toe!

Colour story is lovely, draping adds interest, and sleeve details are interesting. Q Max makes my day!

Agree 100% with you Bepa! Also love her earrings, she kept the jewelry to a minimum here - right call. S.M.

  14. This dress in original form with length to the floor is dream come true for special evening occasions, shame that she went for shorter version and for day use. But it's understandable if it's really her 50 BD today!

I agree, would be nicer in a longer version. I do like the draping, and I like the fact she goes bold on her birthday.

  15. Mmm. Way better fitting than her usual Natans.
When she first wore it for the state visit to Ireland, it was a more appropriate occasion. But now she is overdressed and I can't help but think of handcuffs when I look at the sleeves. I'm glad she didn't go for one of her big ufo-hats as well.

  17. It seems to me a horror of dress. It looks like a robot from the 70s. And for a glittery morning act? Terrible.

When I saw the first picture I thought how nice her hair was styled with the hat and what a nice color on her....then I saw her arms. They seem to yell, I am the queen, look at me and my gold arms." Perhaps the people of the Netherlands like this in their queen. Personally I appreciate that Queen Elizabeth has never flaunted her wealth and position in her dress for everyday appearances. Yes she wears jewels, crowns, etc for formal occasions when it is appropriate. When a queen enters a room or a place everyone there knows she is the queen, but Maxima seems to scream "look at me!" While some may like that, I do not.

  19. What a gorgeous outfit (apart form the sleeves!) I'm with Bepa, who calls it joyous. From top to toe, all is just glorious (apart from the sleeves). Hair and hat, ----perfect, dress---- great colour, nice detail, drapes nicely, good length and is neither too tight nor too wrinkled. The gold shoes and bag give interest to a colour which could otherwise tend to be drab. I have now blocked the sleeves from my consciousness!! Well done, Queen Maxima

Her hair and make- up look great. The color of the dress works with her coloring. I like the detail on the sleeves. Yes, it’s a little over the top for a daytime look but it fits Maxima’s personality. The gloves and clutch fight with the details of the sleeves. Fantastic shoes.

This dress looks like a futuristic costume on a sci-fi movie, it would be passable as the longer version for a night event, along with the gorgeous shoes that are totally out of place for this event, too much gold, it looks a little gaudy. I do like the discreet hat and the very well coiffed hair. The shiny pantyhose needs to go.
