Crown Princess Leonor was confirmed at Parish of the Assumption of Our Lady of Aravaca

Crown Princess Leonor’s (Princess of Asturias) confirmation took place on May 28 at Parish of the Assumption of Our Lady of Aravaca (Parroquia de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora de Aravaca) in Madrid. The Crown Princess made her First Communion in 2015 at the same church. The Crown Princess, along with her classmates, were confirmed into the Catholic Church in a simple ceremony that was scaled back due to the coronavirus restrictions.

Since there were limits on the numbers of guests each student can invite, only Crown Princess Leonor’s parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, and her sister, Infanta Sofia, were able to attend the confirmation service. Crown Princess Leonor is currently studying at the Santa Maria of Rosales School in Madrid. However, she will move to Wales this autumn to complete her secondary education at UWC Atlantic College.

  2. Beautiful occasion. Being confirmed in church is really a big step. Nice to see! Leonor is beautiful and her dress looks good; the colour is great on her. The only issue I have is it looks a bit big or almost baggy at the front and back. I like Sofia's dress.
Letizia is a bit... underwhelming for a church confirmation, a bit too casual in my opinion.

@Rosalyn: I agree. To me, all three of them are either too simply or too casually dressed for a church service, whether for a confirmation or anything else. Glad rags are not needed at all the Catholic confirmations I've attended, but they could have done better.
If I were to choose a look (outside of the context of the occasion), I'd say Sophia was the best of the three.

confirmation is something private that very few people do nowadays to be honest. Actually they are very dressed up. People even attend weddings in trousers

Anon 9:13 , in Spain people go to the church even in shorts, that thing about going to church all dressed up has even a funny word "dominguero"...that means outdated and a bit ridiculous only at Sundays.

    5. Confirmation is not such a public or festive act as in other religions. In Spain it is not celebrated except to go to church and if the family wants, they may or may not have something special.
They are dressed beautifully, because it is a normal day of mass, and that is how they have to be dressed
The rules regarding religion in Spain are much more flexible than in other countries and other religions as I suppose from your comments.

@MW People may not be confirmed as much as they once were, but I think you can factor in the many new "religions" that did not exist a generation or two ago, and the fact that "a religion" is not as important to some people as it once was. Nothing has changed from the time I was confirmed to the time my children were confirmed except the age of confirmation (now being two years later). It is not at all private. Teens are confirmed in a large group like Leonor was, with the Sacrament of Confirmation conferred by the Bishop or the Vicar General. I do agree that there has been a varying degree of acceptable dress. After ten years of religious instruction, such an accomplishment is worth celebrating, IMO. In my family, we dress. Weekly mass, not so much. ~d

To -d-....as others has said, it is a normal mass in Spain, I do not know in other countries.

Here very few people do it, as the country is more and more secular.

Actually I have never attended any.

Also the media is criticising them just because the country is declared as secular since 1978, so they can be Catholic or whatever they want but that do not represent the country.

@MW Thanks for the information. I appreciate it. I am in the US. It is a special mass here for the teens, therefore a more special occasion. I am not surprised they are criticized. It is the thing to do. ~d

I think Letizia has a intrinsic sort of elegance, which cannot be bought or taught. The only other royal who has this quality, is Caroline of Monaca, IMO.

  4. Letizia´s blouse gives me 80s flashbacks in the worst possible way. That´s a dreadful design as far as I am concerned.

Leonor looks lovely in her dress. Such a vibrant colour. And I like her shoes as well.

Sofia´s dress is a bit bland, both in colour and in style. But I think they changed the elastic at the waist (or added another?) and that was a good call as it adds structure and marks her waist at the right height. She seems to be a tall girl, already taller than both her sister and her mother, although she is in flat shoes and the others are not.

Felipe looks great as per usual.

Leonor and her father are fabulous, but I would have expected far more and better from Letizia and Sofia.

    3. Confirmation is a daily act, which does not involve wearing luxurious clothing or dress. People go to church in pants and this is a normal day, so she goes perfectly

Leonor is such a charming and beautiful girl. Lovely blue dress, and cute heels. Sofia's dress is also lovely. And how tall they both are. Don't care for Letizia's blouse.

This is how a princess should dress. Leonor's dress is wonderful and she looks great on her. She is divine so everything looks fabulous on her. Sofia's dress is beautiful, very Spanish and spring
I am delighted to see two teenagers without kilos of makeup and posing as celebrities on the red carpet.
They are true and beautiful princesses
PS: in Spain she goes to church, whatever you want. Confirmation is not as festive an act as First Communion, Baptism or a wedding, so the girl who is "confirmed" will want to go better, but the others go daily, as is logical.

The king’s tie matching Lenor’s dress is a nice touch, possibly a subtle reminder that she will follow him someday as queen. I remember our Spanish posters explaining on previous occasions that dressing for church could be quite casual in Spain, so I’d say they all look very appropriate for the occasion. I quite like Q. Letitia’s oversized blouse which is tempered by the slim trousers and simple accessories. (V.M.)

    1. The matching tie means that he is your Confirmation sponsor, it has nothing to do with his status as heir.

Leonor's dress is nice gorgeous colour. Sofia's is also nice. Letizia's outfit is off. Her shirt looks crumbled with buttons on the side it looks very 80s. Don't like this one. Mary I

I think the Queen looks great - love the blouse and slim trouser combination. I also think the Infanta Sofia looks good in her pretty dress.

As for Leonor, I like both the colour and the style of the dress and her kitten heel shoes are great. I have to say I don't think the dress is very well made at all - it looks a bit like a sewing project from a Home Economics lesson.

  11. Love the colour of Leonor’s dress, and because she is so young and slim, she can disguise the less than perfect cut of the dress ( I am reminded of Queen Mathilde’s green dress earlier this week) Shoes are perfect for the dress and her age. Not a huge fan of Sofia’s dress or shoes. Think, in spite of the explanations re formality above, that Queen Letizia is not suitably dressed for the occasion. If it was informal, the King would also be in casual clothes. Also, she knows that she will be photographed on such an occasion so could have chosen something smarter to match the rest of the family. It’s not as if she’s short of choice!! 😀

    3. How do you know that Letizia is not a religious person? She was baptized, made her First Communion, and confirmed with Felipe as her godfather. And her wedding was religious. Perhaps the other consorts who changed their "religion" in order to marry are less religious, don't you think?

  13. I think Sofia is the winner in the fashion game here, she looks great in here spring/summery boho dress. Queen Letizia looks elegant. Her blouse has that retro vibe, which isn't for everyone, but she still looks chic. King Felipe looks as handsome as ever, and his tie looks great coordinating with Leonor. I do love that color on CP Leonor, and the dress cut, it is just too big (which is a shock since Queen Letizia is the tailoring queen).

  14. Although the event seems to be semi formal, this was not the queen's best look. The blouse should be retired. The girls are maturing before our eyes. Their dresses are age appropriate. One has mom's body type and the other her posture. July.

This blouse does give an 80s vibe, but then some of the styles from then are now coming back. Letizia looks great in it. The ruffle is feminine while the black buttons have a more bold look. They look nice together.
