Early this morning, Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence attended a dawn service to commemorate Anzac Day at Wellington Arch, on behalf of The Royal Family. Afterwards, Princess Anne and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence attended the Anzac Day Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey.
The Anzac Day is a day of remembrance that commemorates the first major battle involving Australian and New Zealand forces during World War I. The Anzac Day Service has been held in London since the first anniversary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli in 1916.
I really think this is a very chic coat, but am less sure about the hat and white tights to go with the black boots. However, Anne is not about fashion these days I think, and that's fine. Good to see her out and about, taking over duties from the Queen, who is entitled to a little R & R.
ReplyDeleteI think the tights are flesh coloured not white but I do agree with the boots black or graphite would have looked better. Since purple is also a colour of mourning I think darker tights with the shoes would also have looked better the light colour just does not go with what she is wearing
DeleteWOW, now that's style.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Princess Benedikte could do better.
And it certainly makes the Princess stand out in the crowd.
Agreed, she looks great!

In a few photos near the end, the colour looks like a 'burgundy purple', and in all of the rest it looks...'shockingly' purple. TBH, I prefer the burgundy version even though I know that isn't the real colour; either way, Princess Anne looks very smart indeed. I particularly like her hat this time.

Very nice!
ReplyDeleteI love it that HRH princess Anne looks so good in this stylish purple.
Judy
She changed shoes over the ceremony and dropped the scarf, probably still rather cold weather.
ReplyDeleteLots of respect for Princess Ann
ReplyDeleteShe looks lovely
Wow, she looks great! But it is interesting to see how much the colour differs in relation to the light.
ReplyDeleteOh Lord. She really likes purple.
ReplyDeletePurple is a suitable colour for what is called "half-mourning", and dates back to the middle-ages, where royals in particular would wear purple after the first phase of mourning in black. I also like that The Princess Royal changed into some different pair of shoes for the church service, and left the boots for the outdoor events. The tights/pantyhose I think were skin-coloured, but looked very lighter in the pictures, which made them appear too close to white.
ReplyDeleteI find this outfit horrible, too loud, too busy, and bordering on costume like. I understand that Anne is not what you would call a fashion minded woman, but there a sea of difference between royals that seem indifferent to trends ( let’s say Stephanie of Luxembourg) and this display of bad taste.

Who is displaying bad taste here, I wonder....

MM
DeleteI totally agree
Lovely colour. Good to see her featured here. Let's hope we see lots more of her. Sensible, hard working and dependable
ReplyDeleteI think she looks great here. She’s channeling her mother’s love of brightly coloured, highly visible outfits, and it works very well. I could quibble about the colour of her tights ( too light), but otherwise it’s a striking and memorable appearance for P.Anne. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteAnne looks especially nice in purple, though the white stockings date her and do not go well with black boots, or shoes.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you
Delete@ Judy, my opinion is that the outfit is terrible. I have not disrespected, either the princess or any participant on this forum. If you don’t like my opinion about fashion, that’s is fine, but insulting me only shows your lack of civility and intolerance towards dissenting views.
ReplyDeleteMM
You are mistaken: I am not intolerant about your view but about the way you expressed it: “ display of bad taste”:
Deleteis that mildly put?
Judy
@MM Busy, Terrible, Loud do not tell us anything. What is it about the outfit that warrants these adjectives and leaves us with an impression of fashion ignorance? Is it the cut, the fit, the wide lapels and collar that do appear outdated, the heavy woolen fabric at the beginning of Spring? Purple, lavender, gray and navy are colors of half mourning date back to the Middle Ages as stated above. The term 'widow's weeds' was used to describe clothes in these colors worn during that time. This woman has 7 decades behind her, it is not unreasonable that this outfit was retrieved from her closet and that she does not upgrade her wardrobe every season.
ReplyDeleteFunny, how you some of you can’t accept people’s opinion about fashion when it doesn’t agree with yours, or you feel that the wearer can’t be criticized about her fashion choices.
ReplyDeleteEverybody should be able to state that an outfit is terrible without having to go into the details and not be reprimanded in the most condescending manner. Regardless what the color represent and how many decades it has been hanging in her closet is a moot point in the final result. I agree that this outfit is loud, busy and dated, and I fully agree with MM.
Please stop judging what the participants are writing, you may think of yourself as an expert, but everybody has the right to their own opinion and as long as there is no disrespect to the person itself, your attempts to diminish them is just nothing but intolerance.
Miss Marple.
@Judy, yes and yes display of bad taste, what is wrong about stating that fashion could be in good or bad taste? Millions of people have either/or, nothing wrong about stating that fact. For goodness sake stop policing people’s thoughts!!
ReplyDeleteMM
@MM, don’t even pay attention to people attacking you because you don’t like this awful outfit. Anne has had a terrible taste in fashion all her life, period, full stop. This fact doesn’t change her character. It looks like some of the bloggers here can’t deal with that fact and instead of understanding that we all have different opinions, they resort to act as if your comment was offensive, and disrespect you.... incredible!
ReplyDeleteAnne
@MM. It is true, according to google, 'opinion does not have to be based in fact or knowledge'.
ReplyDeleteThis means, they can be sprinkled everywhere... and without content. Touché.
You shouldn’t be using google as a guide for your retorts.... perhaps a little ladder to get off that high horse and mix a little with the peasants, maybe you can make it a teachable moment and let them know not to trust their eyes to determine whether they like an outfit or not, after all there is no way that they can be trusted.
