Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Elizabeth’s husband, passed away on Friday morning at the age of 99. Buckingham Palace has just announced that Prince Philip has passed away. In an announcement made by Buckingham Palace a short while ago stated that the Duke of Edinburg passed away this morning at Windsor Castle.
The Duke of Edinburgh was about to turn 100 years old this year. Prince Philip was born on June 10, 1921. The Prince celebrated his 99th birthday in June with his wife Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip had been in isolation there since March because of the corona virus.
So incredibly sad to hear this today. Can't imagine how sad it is for the Queen after 73years of marriage. He was always one of my favourite royals--not afraid to speak his mind and knowledgeable about so many things. A real inspiration in making such an impressive life after a truly rough start. "Well done, good and faithful servant" Rest in peace, your Royal Highness
ReplyDeleteAnnie M., you’ve said it so well and I completely agree.

Annie M, thank you. I could not find the words to express my feelings today. Your sentiments are most appropriate.

Really like your comment, it is beautiful stated. Can't say I met him but briefly spoke to him many years ago when the Queen and Duke where staying at Government House in Canberra and he was always polite to the staff. I nice man. RIP.
DeleteVery sad to hear and heartbreaking for Queen Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteVery sad news. What a great man he was! May he rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteGreat man.So sad, generation of real men leaving. Men of duty, honor and dignity.

Absolutely correct. The world needs more men like him. Thinking of my Queen today. JP
DeleteI'm saddened by this. My deepest condolences to the Royal Family and especially to the Queen. So much turmoil in her life and now she has to face it without her husband, who has always been of great support. She spent most of her life with him and now he's gone...
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with them all.
Very sad. End of an era.

Ave, Arbiter elegantiarum.
ReplyDeleteGracias por todo.
Sad news. Condolences to Her Majesty and her family.
ReplyDeleteTogether, may they all have peace and comfort during this time of mourning.
A chapter now closes in his family's history as he is the last of five children of his parents, the Prince Andrew of Greece and Princess Alice of Battenburg to die. His four younger sisters have already passed away.
It's now up to the great grand children of Princess Alice and Prince Andrew to keep the family tree alive.
Rest in peace your Royal Highness.
It's Alice von (of) Battenberg, not Battenburg.
DeleteAll the sisters were older than Philip.

DeleteThanks for correcting my mistake.
I do get confused at times between the berg's and the burg's.
@Deadeggs: Berg = mountain in German. That´s the reason why Battenberg was translated to Mountbatten.
DeleteHello Vanessa.
DeleteThanks for the information regarding the Mountbatten name. Interesting.
I am very sad. He had such bad luck in his early life, grew up under what are certainly traumatizing circumstances, and yet developed such a strength of character, such a positive attitude to things, such a willingness to accept things as they are and do whatever possible to make them a bit better. They don't make them like this anymore, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteRequiescat in pace.
Agree with you. He seems like a down to earth no nonsense kind of person. Supportive of the queen and not mind being in the background. Condolences to QE and family. May he rests in peace.
DeleteC'est une grande et triste nouvelle - Qu'il repose en paix !
ReplyDeleteTruly the most saddening news. I feared for him since he'd been admitted to a lenghty hospital treatment in February and March, so the news of his passing did not come totally unexpected, still as a shock, nonetheless. You do not see many people of his class, conduct, and stamina around these days. They become fewer and fewer now, unfortunately. He'd shown to the world what the term "unwavering support to crown and country" truly meant, and many could learn a lesson or two from his steady commitment and devotion to the monarchy. A great one leaves this world forever. Sad day, indeed.
ReplyDeleteGod bless him and the Queen. Anyone could see they loved each other deeply, and he did his duty being her consort. Yes, he was prone to gaffs but he also supported her in all ways. I feel so much for Her Majesty right now. He was an interesting man who lived through a lot. I look forward to reading a book or two about him.

ReplyDeleteI am really saddened.
ReplyDeleteA remarkable man and the greatest support for the Queen.
Thank you, Prince Philip.
May you rest in peace.
My deepest condolences to H.M. and the entire Family.
@quakeress. You are so right, they don't make them (Prince Philippe) like this any more.
ReplyDeletePhilippe?
Delete@anjan.
DeleteTo explain your ???
I live in France and work in both English and French languages.
Philip (English) is spelt in French as Philippe.
Sometimes I forget what language I'm working in and little mistakes like that creep into my work.
A very sad day. I feel very sorry for the Queen and I hope she will be able to cope with his passing. I saw many special programmes on German TV yesterday about the death of the Duke of Edinburgh. The end of an era. So very sad...Frieda
ReplyDeleteWhat a great man. I can easily understand why the Queen fell in love with him.....
