Empress Michiko and the late world-famous Keiko Toyama were longtime friends

On March 31, 2021, former Empress Michiko made a condolence visit to the residence of pianist Keiko Toyama in Minato, Tokyo. Keiko Toyama died on March 29, 2021 at the age of 87. The Empress left the Takanawa Sento Temporary Palace by car around 11:00 am.

When she arrived in front of Keiko Toyama's residence in Minato Ward, she got out of the car and spoke with the late pianist's relatives before entering her home.

Empress Michiko and the late world-famous Keiko Toyama were longtime friends and played together at the annual summer music festival in Kusatsu, Gunma. It is the first time in five months that the Empress has been out of Takanawa's temporary palace since she visited Meiji Jingu in October last year.

  2. Aw, how good to visit the family. The former Empress is my favorite. Elegance and grace with such a feminist history. I miss seeing her more frequently.

    Love seeing Empress Michiko. She is also a very accomplished pianist. I enjoy listening to and watching her past recitals. There are many clips available.

    I really like Michiko. She has not conformed to the "uniform" the other women wear, but has been confident enough to dress with some flair while still remaining dignified. She is not always seen in pearls, like here, and her suits have had more interest and different styles. Where we can depend on seeing the same few silhouettes of suits and dresses with minor tweaks here and there from the royals, Michiko is a refreshing original. ~d
