On April 27, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, Crown Princess Amalia, Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane are celebrating the King's Day. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the celebrations have been scaled down for the second year in a row. The royal family traveled to the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, where they takes part in a special TV show, which also be live-streamed, with the theme of "getting to know each other."
A photo was released in which the royals posed in front of the Palace. King’s Day is the Dutch national holiday that celebrates the King’s birthday which is on April 27.

Dear oh dear, what a mess!
ReplyDeleteSo much for individuality, but looking a bit at each other’s colours or style would help a lot.
Judy
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Delete...ck
Couldn't help but chuckle at the same thing. Colorful, yes.
DeleteGenerally speaking I agree a mess though without her coat Amalia looks rather nice. Why the girls always go for wedge sandals for the warmer weather pictures I do not get. They are all hideous and certainly Alexia's can not be comfortable for walking on cobbles with her toes hanging over the edges.
DeleteNice family. The girls have beautiful hair....Ariane has really grown up and blossomed lately - the blue dress colour really suits her. I’m not too keen on the Queen’s outfit - I think it may be the hair worn down with a hat combo, or the shiny fabric... but something isn’t quite right.
ReplyDeleteAll in all lovely to see them together enjoying themselves.
Happy birthday WA!
JP
It was clear that Alexia would be the one in the short dress ;-)) Am I wrong or is Arianes hair getting reddish? And: what has Maxima on her head?
ReplyDeleteShe’s wearing a beautiful hat coordinated with her dress. ❤️
DeleteIt looks like Maxima is wearing an overgrown, rather swollen tulband.
DeleteAnd yes, Ariane's hair is much darker than before, and now that you've mentioned it, it looks reddish as well.
I always look forward to Kings Day to see what the Dutch Royal family pulls off, and they did not disappoint. The three young princesses look spectacular. I love Princess Alexia's cream dress!!! I can definitely see the A team becoming a major royal fashion icon in years to come.
ReplyDeleteI like everything here except the turban fabric made of the outfit of the Queen, when one has leftover fabric maybe use it for a handbag lining, no? this would have been a good time for one of QM's splashy hats. The family shows unity and happiness.
ReplyDeleteA big day in the Netherlands, too early for me to comment on the queen's dress, I have not yet made up my mind. Ariane, the youngest remains my favorite princess, a pity however her coat is not matching with her dress. No comment on Amalia and Alexia.
ReplyDeleteGod bless this beautiful family!
ReplyDeleteYes, so nice to see them united as a happy smiling family.
DeleteOn the fashion side ....... well, yes, ...... a lot to take into account.
I need to put the kettle on and make a big pot of tea and then get down to work. Will phone in later.
ReplyDeleteThat would be a huge NO for me on Maxima's dress. The style, fabric, pattern, everything. Plus, add in the hat, just a disaster. I would have liked to see some cohesion in the fashion. My favorite pic is the 2nd one, with the 3 daughters together. They are beautiful young ladies.
ReplyDeleteChel
Hhm. The all look off, except for the King himself.
ReplyDeleteMaxima - what a terrible colour combo. And the pattern looks more like an accident, especially in the skirt. The hat is awful, the dress design seems random, the fabric too shiny. I like the silhouette, but that´s it. Overall a fail.
Amalia - My goodness, she is one beautiful girl, her facial features are stunning. But she is overweight. As for her outfit - I like the blouse. It works with her colouring and the belted silhouette is flattering. However, the combination with the forest green trousers is imcomprehensible to me, the shoes are all wrong (both for her, for her outfit, and for the season), and she´s wearing too much make-up.
Alexia - It´s a cute look and age-appropriate, but still out of place. Too short/skimpy relative to the others, and given the cold weather this year. Also, no tights in open shoes.
Ariane - she´s has grown a lot and does no longer look like a child. The blue dress is still "too old" for her. And I guess she just likes clunky shoes. She too, isn´t dressed well for the weather. Her hand-bag is weird. But I do like the deep blue with the cognac brown.
Hi Vanessa, I don't think Amalia is overweight. She has a very tall and 'big' posture, like her father. She'll never be very slim or skinny, it's not her body type.
DeleteAnd it's also the boxy outfit that makes her look bigger. Pity, she can do much better.
Sorry Vanessa it is extremely pleasant weather here today except for the fact that I too don't like those sandals they are fine as to the weather
DeleteYou described it all exactly as I do see it!

Please stop commenting on young women's weight. It's rude and may be downright dangerous. Anorexia is a fatal illness at its worst, and one small wrong word may be enough to lead someone onto that fatal path.
DeleteTo me the most important thing is that they seem to be a happy and loving family. I really love their colourful clothes which seem to suit their individual personalities. It's lovely to see them together.
Paula
Putting a but after a compliment makes it a two-faced compliment. Unless you are their doctor or their parent, no one should be commenting on a child's weight.
DeleteGreat to see the family out to celebrate . My favourite outfit is Ariane's blue dress, which is just lovely on her (didn't like it with the mismatched coat--wrong colour, wrong length, just wrong!). And nice sandals to go with it (huge improvement on the ballet flats worn by some young royals) She has grown up so much since we last saw her. Next, Alexia's pale dress and jacket, prevented from being aging by the short flared skirt, which looks great on her. Then Queen Maxima's over the top ensemble--very Maxima! (love the comment from unknown about the handbag lining!). It looks good with the coat and I actually like the colour combo. Also--sssshhhh--her hair is nicely styled. I don't know if it is the way she is made up but Amalia looks like a woman in her thirties in the early photos and the coat that she is wearing is aging in itself. Just not a good look, I'm afraid. The King looks nice too!!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the ballet shoes worn by the Spanish princesses to these summer shoe combinations with stockings.
DeleteI agree with pllorens about shoes.
Delete@Rosalyn. This is a perfect example. I don't even know where to start.
ReplyDeleteThanks, but my comment is nowhere to be seen! 😳
DeleteI think the appearance of the nice royal family is not very coordinated. Colour-wise and fashion-wise. It looks a bit thrown together to me, with a tendency towards the 70s.
ReplyDeleteNo one really looks good here. Frieda
Frieda, not even Willem-Alexander?
DeleteI agree with you Frieda, Queen Maxima's look is like a throw back from the 60's or 70's and a bit to old-fashioned for me. Sometimes her fashion choices look out of date!
Delete100% agree with you. The queen and her daughters need a lot of help fashion wise. What a mismatch.
DeleteI agree with Frieda.
DeleteYes Coralie, the King does, but as a man you can't do much wrong. A well-cut suit and that's it. ;-) Frieda
DeleteOkay well somehow my comment was posted because Kteach reacted on it, but it also seemed to have disappeared. I'll try again.
ReplyDeleteI'm really underwhelmed. There's so much going on with all the outfits that it looks messy.
The girls are, as usually, dressed overly mature. Amalia's outfit doesn't suit her age and her body and makes her look bigger than she is. I like the ton-sur-ton of Alexia's outfit. Ariane's hair is much darker than before, the colour great on her, but the outfit is still too mature. Teenagers often want to look older, so maybe that plays a role as well.
I hope they aren't going that much with Natan in the future. Alexia is the only one who isn't wearing Natan and she might as well be best dressed. The bottom of Maxima's dress is too tight and Amalia's trousers crease badly. Typically Natan: No suitable fabrics for the different body types and usually badly creasing and ill-fitting.
I love Maxima's hair though.
Well, personally when I go out with my family I wear what I like and works for the occasion. It has never yet occurred to me to ask what everyone else is wearing so we look more coordinated.
ReplyDeleteNote to self - must do better.
B
Don't you this this is a different situation? These pictures are seen worldwide, and other royals do coordinate as a family to some extent when they have children in the home, or between husband and wife.
DeleteWhen attending a large extended family gathering, my sisters and I do check in because we have such similar taste, we don't want to show up in matching outfits. I don't think it is that unusual. ~d
es ist ja schon ein Ereignis die Töchter des Königs sehen zu dürfen ;)
ReplyDeleteAber ich muss sagen, keines der Outfits gefällt mir.
Ich stimme eigentlich dazu.
DeleteBeautiful young ladies . Ariane has grown up and blossomed . Their parents must be very proud . They all look great and relaxed . Happy Kings Day.
ReplyDelete@Rosalyn ,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to comment on the princesses' outfits as much as they did. :)
I wish they coordinated their outfits better. The shades are all slightly off. Love Ariane and Alexia's dresses. The color of Amalia's top is gorgeous and works great with her coloring. She has a great hair. I don't mind Maxima's dress but there's something off about her turban-the positioning of it on her head????
ReplyDeleteE.B.B.
When I posted originally, I didn't realise that one of the reasons I like these photos is the unstructured nature of the outfits. Of course I love seeing the colour coordination of the Cambridges or the Spanish royals but, for me, there's something joyous about this mismatch of colours and outfits.
DeleteI did also laugh at d's comments--you must lead a much more organised existence than I have ever done. I'm so impressed as I can't think of ever having checked the styles or colours of outfits of friends and relatives --casual or smart is as far as we ever get!! :-)
Amalia is a Beautiful young lady. She is certainly not overweight,. she is Tall. A very striking young woman. They are a lovely family.
ReplyDeleteOh get real.... I agree when you say that comments on the body shape of non adults are not done. But to deny the obvious to set things right, is just as bad. Obesity is bigger problem than anorexia by the way.
DeleteLily T.
After reading the 37 comments I did have a good laugh. You must be really happy as the Dutch royal family has given you an opportunity to show your disgust towards normal looks. Anorectic fashion victims is the right way how royal ladies should look - according to many (most?) of you. King's Day is life, not a fashion catwalk.
ReplyDeleteMargot
Margot, the point of this blog is to talk about the Royals fashion, not to be rude to the participants for doing so. If you don’t agree with some of the comments, please just give us your opinion about what they are wearing. I don’t understand why can’t you just have enough respect for others freedom of expression.
ReplyDeleteMM
Over all I love the girls individuality. They are obviously allowed choices in what they want to wear and that is ok. I like their fashion sense and in time they will know about color coordination's. Please give them time and refrain from judging. They are still young and very vulnerable.
ReplyDeleteOmg whyyyyy??!😱😱😱🤣
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and elegant family :)
