Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended the national memorial service

On March 11, 2021, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended the national memorial service for victims of the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami at the National Theatre in Tokyo. The government has held a memorial ceremony annually on March 11 starting in 2012. But the event was canceled last year and the number of attendees has been limited this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ten years ago today, the earthquake and the accompanying tsunami hit eastern Japan, leaving more than 20,000 people dead or missing. In addition, tsunami accompanying the earthquake and the nuclear power plant accident caused by the earthquake has forced great numbers of people to leave the places where they used to live.

  2. Elegant outfit. But why the Empress of Japan often wears grey outfits? Her mother in law as well. The princesses often wear different colours and lighter colours. Maybe something related to status? But why grey? Could someone explain? Is there something to know? Or is it just a good colour for formal events?

I think she is wearing a somber color because this is a memorial service. She wears lighter colors as well, but for different occasions. ~d

This is a beautiful suit on Masako. The second photo shows it off best: The colour, the lovely shape of the jacket, and the length and style of the skirt. Are those pleats on the side of the skirt? That's a very nice detail if they are. And the hat pairs well with the outfit.
The Emperor looks very smart as well. All round: Excellent.

As we offer prayers to those who lost and were lost in this tragic event, it brings back memories of those terrible images and heartbreaking stories.

The Emperor and Empress are a picture of quiet dignity, styled to perfection. Speaking sartorial volumes in quiet chromatic tones.

E Masako's suit, hat, and accessories are on point. Impeccably tailored with subtle details.

    Memory eternal.

  5. A really sad occasion. Appropriate dressing for such by the Emperor and Empress.
Can't help but to appreciate the tailoring of their suits.
Not a crease or seam out of place anywhere. Impressive.

Dove gray gloves would looked much better with Masako's outfit.

I do love the elegant less is more style of the Japanese imperial family. But I am longing for a bit more
    variety within their fashion style
