On March 18, 2021, Princess Charlene attended the memorial service of King Goodwill Zwelithini at the KwaKhethomthandayo royal palace in Nongoma, South Africa. The Zulu king died at the age of 72 of Covid-related complications while being treated for diabetes at a Durban hospital last week. Beyond the collaboration with The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, King Zwelithini was a close personal friend of Princess Charlene.

She looks kind of spooky here. Did she fly all the way to South Africa? Well, a "close friend" has died, but tbh I would pay my respects after Corona time, so as not to put others and myself in danger. Frieda

    1. Exactly, hope she goes into isolation before traveling back to Europe
On a fashion note her Shaved hair is not nice

  2. A kind and generous gest to pay to the King.
    Appropriate tenue for the occasion.

I have read on another blog that the King's son said that his father wanted no women to attend his funeral.
Princess Charlene was to be an exception as she is a Princess and not just an ordinary woman.

Why would he say "no women"?

Zwelithini didn't want women at his funeral; but he liked to have bare-breasted virgins dance for him. I won't get into other cultural stuff, it is what it is. To each his own, I guess. ~Laurel~

Charlene attended the memorial service the day after funeral which was men only. Other women including the late king's wives were present at the memorial service.

The King was buried on Wednesday night in a ceremony attended by only the males of his royal family (a private family affair). Charlene and the rest of the other dignitaries attended the memorial service (attended by both males and females) on Thursday.

PS: some of our African tribes do not permit women and children at the burial if men. I’m not sure how the Zulu tribe usually conducts their burials or other South Africans tribes though.

Laurel, perhaps you should read more on the Reed Dance because you do not understand it and are looking at it from a western point of view.

She seriously needs to stop with lip injections.
Her dress/shawl were rather odd, with the strange arm cut outs, or slits, whatever they were. uri

Charlene is not wearing a shawl. She is wearing a chapel veil. This was a religious ceremony. "His requiem mass was presided over by the Archbishop of Cape Town, Dr Thabo Makgoba." -- Church Times, 19 March 2021.

Since you don't like Charlene's dress, maybe you prefer the leopard skins worn by the King's family, dignitaries, and Zulu people. ~d

Charlene is appropriately solemn here. The King's wives are wearing dresses in a similar length. I don't care for rosaries worn as necklaces, but that is how I was brought up. It is a beautiful rosary, however. I read that the King was so close to Charlene that he considered her a daughter. ~d

  5. A l occasion de ce service commémoratif, Charlène est vêtue avec solennité ; elle porte une magnifique mantille qui fait office de grand châle afin de couvrir les manches courtes de sa robe !

@T, thank you for your comment, it’s unfortunate to read so many judgmental comments about cultures and customs that aren’t “ours”

Please, take your own advice: take your meds and be 'corteous' (see post on the Duchess of Cambridge -3/8/2021).
Why are you talking about a Dance you know nothing of?
Btw, Charlene is beautiful and appropriately dressed for the occasion.
