The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge thanked Scottish NHS staff

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge sent a message in which they thanked hospital staff at NHS (National Health Service) Tayside in Dundee for their work and wished them well on Burns Night. Burns Night is Scotland's celebration of the poet, Robert Burns. NHS Tayside employs 13,000 members of staff, who have been caring for patients from hospitals in Angus, Dundee and Perth and Kinross throughout the pandemic.

A Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns, the author of many Scots poems. The suppers took place normally on or near the poet's birthday, 25 January, known as Burns Night. The Duchess wore Emilia Wickstead's red tartan "Anni" dress, a dress that she wore at the Queen's Christmas dinner in 2019.

The woman in the first pic is Kate. The woman in the remaining 4 pics very likely to be Kate as well, but somebody photoshopped her face to the extent that she does not look like herself. Even the shape of her face was modified. - Sad are such things. - Ellie

I noticed that too, all her lines that you can clearly see in the first pic have vanished in the other pics, erasing also her birthmarks in the process..... And please don't tell me it's the soft lighting... William's face was "rejuvenated" as well by the way....

    2. I agree with you. I had difficulties to see Kate. She didn't seem the same as usual

It's not photoshopped, it's a filter that they use on Zoom.

Gosh I noticed that too as I was scrolling down the photos....and then the first comment - yours - addressed this. Her face in the photos other than the first one looks 'doctored' and unnatural.

Zoom has filters, which were employed after the first photo. No big deal, she is beautiful, warm, caring, intelligent, honest and a great Mum.

What they do during the pandemic is amazing, that is how they make monarchy still relevant.

I do not see what is amazing here! They are sitting in a very comfortable "house", with servants and they praise via a Video conference the work of the NHS stuff! It is rather appauling!

What you find appalling is beyond me.
      Another mean and pointless comment.
      If the Cambridges' work
and even their staff disturb you, you should not be commenting on a royal site.
You still keep on harassing Charlene and you change names in a rather childish way.

Agree, looks very odd. The first photo is the best, she looks natural and beautiful. She does not deserve to be photoshopped, no one does.

I would find it nicer with the lighter, sheer sleeves. With the change, it looks very heavy all in all. Frieda

  6. I don't think it is photo-shopped at all. I think it is a Zoom meeting and they have the "Improve my appearance" in the settings that is a choice ou can make right over on the strong side.

That said I think that dress is just awful. I don't think I would even put a child in it even if my taste was very conservative which it is not

When she first wore this dress some years ago I thought it looked OK on her. Perhaps it was the circumstances she was wearing it at the time but I cannot remember what they were. Now when I see it on the model, I'm not so sure I like it that much. Perhaps it's just the passage of time and seeing so many new fashion styles since then that has changed my feelings about it.

Here we go again, the "thematic" dressing - tartan for Scotland, green/red for Wales, dark blue for NHS, white&blue stripes for nautical events, military style for army-related engagements, tennis ball print for Wimbledon, and so on ..... Believe me Kate, we GET IT! No need to insist so much on wearing the colors/style of every single place you go to (physically or virtually), it was fun at the beginning, but it has become tiring and boring by now, too stereotype and "on your face" for my taste, even a bit childish I would say. I am not inspired. Next....!

I believe the "thematic" dressing as you call it is meant as a sign of respect and acknowledgement of the place/event/people involved. Princess Diana was famous for this on her trips abroad. Several royals today do the same. Queen Maxima and Crown Princess Mary wear gauzy print dresses in Japan, CP Mary wears seasonal red or print dresses at the Christmas stamp unveiling each year, even Camilla wears something resembling a salwar kammez when traveling to the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. Besides, William & Catherine have Scottish titles and are entitled to wear the Strathearn tartan.

@Anon 4:14: Tartan is used here as a symbol. People use symbols repeatedly. Among others because this is the nature and purpose of symbols. If *you* find it boring, very well, but please avoid talking about *we*. It is you. - I also find it inappropriate writing as if talking to her. Here we have a platform where everybody can have style preferences. But it should be written in a style that clearly shows that it is one's personal opinion. And I am sure had you the chance to meet her and talk about clothing, you would be polite and polished enough not to lecture about your own style preferences, at least not if her clothing is concerned. 5. I agree. The thematic dressing is over the top and could even be construed as patronizing in my opinion.

    6. Dear Mel, I am Scottish. I rarely wear tartan but I did last night for the (virtual --sadly!) Burns night I was attending. I am perfectly happy that Catherine does so as well nor, Gemma, do I feel at all patronised. As to the dress itself, I would prefer it without the gauzy sleeves, but think it suits the Duchess's dark colouring very well. She also looks great in a red tartan skirt which she wore to Wales (gosh, how daring!) with the sublime Alexander McQueen red coat

I think it has become too much of a good thing. It means so much more when going abroad to give a nod to the host country. It is most certainly a sign of respect. When done each and every time for small visits, or local events, in my opinion, it begins to look trite. As this group has discussed before, these outfits do begin to take on a costume feel.

@Annie M: I think Catherine agrees with you about not preferring the gauzy sleeves. It seems that her dress doesn't have them, and I agree that it looks better without.

Once again, not photoshopped!! Just the zoom filters that everybody uses.
Love everything about her looks, she always looks great in red. The hair is getting a little long for my taste, but she can carry it for sure. I have a questions, didn’t she wear this dress before with the gauzy sleeves? I seem to remember it just like the model...
But then again sometimes I don’t even remember what I had for dinner last night :-)

  11. They both look old for their age compared to other royals who are over 10 years older. And I think the first thing Catherine did after the video conference was to get rid of that stupid "school girl" looks to wear jeans and sweater. A nice modern hair cut would suit her too. Over 10 years the same stuff is too much.

The first photo is original and natural;the eyes are not the same in the other photos of Catherine. The word is Woke.I attended a fantastic Robbie Burns celebration in Australia;the pipes the band and all other attendees dressed resplendent for all their relatives and friends who are Scottish and need us to carry on the traditions.
