MAX MARA Custodi Coat
The Earl and Countess of Wessex visited Kneller Hall in Twickenham
On December 10, 2020, The Earl and Countess of Wessex visited the Corps of Army Music for a renaming ceremony and short parade at Kneller Hall in Twickenham. The Countess of Wessex is Colonel in Chief of the regiment. The British Army's school of music is located at Kneller Hall and is recognised as the home of Army music since its foundation in 1857. The Countess wore a double-breasted wool coat from MaxMara.
DeleteI love Sophie's hat, and of course that gorgeous colour. The shape is whimsical yet attractive, and the colour pairs well with the cream coat. It would have been nice to see her outfit without the coat, but she looks wonderful as is.

I so agree with your comments about the hat, it is wonderful. Love that deep, rich color paired with that cream coat.
DeleteBeautiful.

Thanks Chel. May I commend you on your comments on other posts too. They are balanced, honest and positively presented even the rare time when in dissent. Makes such a difference and nice to read.

Oh oh I thought those clunky hats had found their way out of the Countess' closet for good. The colour and the matching with the long coat are fine, but the whole silhouette is unbalanced by the hat, unfortunate hat.
ReplyDeleteNo to the hat.
ReplyDeleteNo to the too long coat.
Both items are just too over the top and then add messy hair around the base of the hat, it just all looks odd.
Edward's suit and tie look up to date and very nice.
Like this coat, although agree with Tulipe that it is on the long side. Never been sure about this hat which, although it's a nice colour, always has vibes of the "Mad Hatter " in Alice about it, in my view. My admiration for this couple grows. If you look at their early history, in the early years of their relationship and into the early years of their marriage they really wanted to avoid the rigours of life as working royals. That wasn't possible and through the pandemic they have been absolutely superb. Well done
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coat, I like this length if worn with high boots, very nice color combination, pretty Countess and ... a terrible hat.

I like the hat very much, it's fun and the colour is gorgeous. She looks great!
ReplyDelete-B.
I agree, B!
DeleteOn Insta the earrings (green tourmaline-ish) look amazing with the hat and pick up the colours of dress. This is a unique, strong look, perfect for Sophie.

The hat is very "Dr. Suess-like".
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly.

Agreed.

It's not so much the length of the coat, it's just too baggy. The outfit would have been quite nice if the coat had been fitted. I don't like the loose coat on the model, either, although it looks nice all by itself. I love the color of Sophie's odd hat, which she also wore in Germany in 2014. ~Laurel~
ReplyDeleteTotal miss from my perspective. These hats she used to wear decades ago shouldn’t make it out of the box. The coat engulfs her and overall looks like an uninspired attempt to reuse wardrobe items. It’s not like she didn’t have better options (this is Sophie pre-Kate, the way she used to dress before Kate - and possibly Carole- provided some inspiration for more polished looks). Hopefully a one-time error. CH
ReplyDeleteThis outfit looks like it came straight out of the 1910's, although I love the colors and I always like seeing Sophie.
ReplyDeleteWhile not usually a fan of big hats, I like Sophie in this one. The unique style and beautiful, rich color are quite nice.

Sophie is one of my favorites, but, hard as I try, I cannot like her hat. It reminds me of the Sydney Opera House. If the bow were smaller I might like it better. Her coat, though long and loose, is okay, but, IMO, this is not one of her better appearances.
ReplyDeleteThese long coats look better on tall women. Sophie is 165 cm tall, this coat would need to be shortened a bit.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I must appreciate her sense of duty, her patience, her dignity.
The hat is a beautiful color, and I've tried to like its strange, sculptural shape...but I just can't. It seems to say "look at me, I'm so very unusual!" rather than "look at the lady who's wearing me, she's so attractive!" The coat, too, rather overwhelms Sophie. And it has a costumey look, rather WWI-era.
ReplyDeleteBut I have to give the CoW points for daring to be different!
Sorry, I do not like Sophie' s hat at all.
ReplyDeleteThe colour is great and it could have worked with a different less garish shape.
As to the coat, it is beautiful in itself, but it would have been wow if properly tailored.
It would have looked so elegant, if she had her hair styled in a neat bun. It looks too untidy. And yes, the coat looks like a bigger size.
ReplyDeleteIs this the same hat that she wore to Christmas with the Royals when she was first married?
ReplyDeleteIs thus the same hat that she wore to Christmas when she was first married?
