The 19th birthday of Japanese Princess Aiko is celebrated today
Japanese Princess Aiko, the only child of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, turned 19. Today, the Princess celebrates her birthday. Princess Aiko was born on December 1, 2001. On the occasion of the birthday, the Imperial Household Agency shared new photos showing Princess Aiko with her dog Yuri at Akasaka Estate in Tokyo. The photos were taken on November 22, 2020.
Yuri is 11 years old and joined Emperor Naruhito's family in 2009 when she was 2 months old. The princess, enrolled in Gakushuin University in Tokyo, has been taking part in virtual lectures since the start of the academic year in April. After turning 20, the princess is expected to perform official duties as an adult member of the Imperial Family.
DeleteGetting braces on children's teeth is the decision of the parents, not the child. It is something they would have done if they felt it was important. It must not have the same importance in Japan that it has in other countries. I do think it is unfortunate because she certainly could have used them.
DeleteCertainly a sweet girl with a lovely dog, but difficult to say more.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Princess Aiko.
ReplyDeleteAiko's body shape is Apple. Maybe nobody noticed, because she has small breasts. Apple body shape is characterized by undefined waistline, top heavy, wide middle section/wide and thick ribcage.
ReplyDeleteSome fashion tips for Apple body type:
1. De-emphasize the waist.
2. Elongate the torso
3. High-waisted jeans, trousers and skirts are not good.
Her pants are so high she is slowly being eaten by them. You would know what I mean if you search "African man in high pants meme" on Google.
The blouse is nice.
Anonymous, 12/1/2 5:21PM, instead of jumping to unkind conclusions do find phots of Princess Aiko's 15th birthday. Given her mothers difficulties she seemed to develop an eating disorder then. Wherever her body goes next is much less of a threat for her and subsequently for her loved ones. https://mainichi.jp/english/graphs/20161201/hpe/00m/0na/001000g/1
DeleteDear Liza. Instead of jumping into some kind of unkind conclusion towards me, you should search on the internet that there are several categorized body shapes when it comes to fashion. There's no such thing called ideal body shape. Everyone body shapes are beautiful especially if dressed correctly in a way that would be flattering.
DeleteShe is an adult now. It is fair to discuss her fashion and body type. There was no shame in what was said. We all have a body type that should be dressed to accentuate our best features and disguise or distract from our less flattering features. Aiko's pants are appallingly bad on her. That may be the intent on the part of her parents or the Imperial family. I couldn't say. She is not dressed like a 19-year-old at all. Liza, you mention eating disorders. Eating disorders are caused by a variety of things. It is not always body image. One thing that is at the root of so many cases is a need to have control of something. When so many things in your life are being controlled by others or circumstances beyond anyone's control, sometimes without even realizing it, an eating disorder develops. You control what you put in your body. It is one small bit of control in a life you feel you have no control over. I say this as a person who has struggled with an eating disorder off and on for 40 years.
DeleteThe Imperial family is ridiculously controlling of the women in the family. We have seen how the young women must dress, women are always in the background, and they are not in the line of succession. Now, after a postponement, Mako finally got approval from her father, Crown Prince Akishino, to marry her commoner fiancé, but the PUBLIC has to approve or there will be no official ceremony. Why should they care what the public thinks? She will no longer be part of the Imperial family once she marries. More likely than not, this is the future that awaits Aiko as well. When the females in the family know that they will have no future as royals, why do they have to be subjected to these harsh, outdated rules?
You should perhaps first click at the link in Liza's post. From there, it's useful to stop and think about the story behind the difference between Aiko's photos at 15 and today. Today, she looks healthy, happy, and glowing, whereas in 2016 she seemed to be heading towards an entirely different direction.
DeleteWhatever its shape or age, the human body is indeed beautiful and fascinating, and thus there is actually no need to try to hide one's body shape with "correct" or "flattering" dresses.

Happy Birthday to Princess Aiko.

A lovely young woman and her beloved pet. Happy Birthday! Nice outfit, though I would love to see what she wears on an everyday basis.
ReplyDeleteWhy does a 19-year-old woman dress like a 70-year-old?
ReplyDeleteIn which part of the world, a 70 years old dressed like that?
DeleteHer style is retro, just like the rest of Imperial family.
It is Japan, the Emperor and royal family are kind of a Gods as their religion taoism belives in ancestors. The even can't leave the palace without permission asked two days before. It is very difficult to live there inside.
DeleteWell, she’s Japanese. And she’s Royal. No idea to compare to western women.

DeleteI don’t think it’s Taoism. It’s Shinto. You should do your research thoroughly. Taoism is believed to be the inspiration, but these are not the same to Japanese.
Une jeune fille qui a l'air un peu plus jolie mais sa garde-robe ne suit pas - Adorable son chien Yuri ; je craque !!! Bon anniversaire à elle entourée par sa famille si cela est possible !
ReplyDeleteI have found a short video sequence in another royal blog where Aiko is coming into this garden with the dog. No apples, no pears, no fruits, just Aiko in these high waisted trousers, similar to paperbag trousers, very fasionable. She moves and behaves in a pleasant way.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pity that this blog allows all kinds of intrusive statements. There are too many crude remarks in all kinds of posts in growing numbers that have nothing to do with fashion statements.
(-Ann.)
Thank you for this post. I thought the comments about this young woman were intrusive. She is not in the forefront of the family, she is a daughter, finding her footing in life.
DeleteWhat is intrusive to you? Saying that she is dressed like an older lady? Well, she is! It's a fashion blog, what can't someone say they don't like somone's clothes and they don't look good in it! It's crazy 😐
DeleteHappy Birthday and many, many more to the Beautiful One of a kind Princess Aiko.

She looks like a happy young woman. Give her time she'll pick up more modern classic fashion sense. I do hope some adviser helps her choose style that compliments her body type.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you .
DeleteShe looks lovely and seems like a kind person. I’m sure her family is very proud of her and loves her very much. Happy birthday your royal highness.
ReplyDeleteI’m always glad to see pictures of Princess Aiko; to me she is a fascinating person by virtue of her unique position in the imperial family, and an enigmatic person because we have seen little of her over the years — perhaps because her parents are very protective, understandably. She was an absolutely adorable little girl, and is now a young woman just beginning to find her way. I hope that she has friends — although building a social life is probably challenging in her world — and a good relationship with her older cousins Mako and Kako, who always are smartly, if conservatively, dressed and should be able to give her some guidance in that dept.
ReplyDeleteJapan and its rules about heirs to the throne appear odd to many of us. Incidentally I came across a page yesterday which was reporting that there have been some (I think 8) empresses in Japanese history, roughly during the period 500/750 of our era.
ReplyDeleteFor Princess Aiko I think she is lucky in Japan and its rules about heirs to the throne . She will be more relaxed in her personal life , free to choose her husband and has the freedom of reproduction . Japanese royals have strict traditions particularly for the females.
DeleteI strongly disagree with B. 3: 03 am - with this statement:
ReplyDelete"Thus there is actually no need to try to hide one's body shape with" correct "or" flattering "dresses". This sentence absolutely denies the purpose of fashion.
Clothing has a protective significance (protects our body) and aesthetic significance. A clever woman wears such pieces that hide the imperfections of the figure and emphasize the advantages of the figure. (This applies to every woman) Some women have a natural taste and can do it themselves, other women can be advised by a stylist or such fashion blogs. That is why we need to be honest and not afraid of criticism. In addition, the royal ladies whose clothes we evaluate have much more options than we do - they have money, staff, protocol experts. I do not accept the current hypercorrectness and exaggerated sensitivity to criticism. Ella
Well said, Ella. Women know when they really look good, and they tend to carry themselves better because of it.
DeleteWell said, Ella! I noticed that recently any criticism regarding bad fashion choices is taken as attack on this blog. It's about fashion, right? Why can't we no longer say that someone doesn't look good in some clothes?!
DeleteI find it very, very sad what comments can be read here.
ReplyDeletePrincess Aiko seemed to have gone through a difficult period years ago which had affected her weight.
In the pictures, the princess looks happy and that's what really matters.
The fact that the Japanese royals dresses very classically and mostly a bit conservative ... should probably depend on the protocol and .... Thank God the tastes are different
Young Aiko was bullied by the children in her school and had to be pulled out. Why do you suppose she was bullied? What may have been acceptable a few generations ago is more difficult to live with now. Children and young adults need to fit in and have friends. Aiko stands out and not in a good way.
