On October 31, on All Saints' Day, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia attended the Church of Sweden's national memorial service in Uppsala Cathedral. The Church's national memorial service brought together the King and Queen and a small crowd of specially invited people. During the memorial service, which was broadcasted live on TV4, the Archbishop and the Speaker of the Riksdag gave speeches.
(Queen Silvia’s brother, Walther Sommerlath, has died. The Queen has announced that her brother, Walther Sommerlath, has passed away. Walther Sommerlath was 86 years old and died on October 23rd 2020 at Karolinska Hospital in Huddinge.)
God bless!

I do believe All Saints' Day is Nov01, which is why Martin Luther chose All Hallows Eve Oct31 to nail his 95 Theses on the door of Wittenberg Cathedral, as he knew people would be at church the following day and would read them. All Hallows Eve has morphed into Hallowe'en.
ReplyDeleteYes, Silvia will be missing her brother. The LORD be with you, Queen Silvia.

Good comment, Laurel. Thank you :)
Delete"All Saints Day in Sweden is a national holiday that has both religious and traditional significance. While the date of this holiday is 1 November on the church calendar, Sweden observes All Saints Day on the First Saturday in November."
DeleteAll Saints’ Day in Sweden was moved to the first Sunday in November and in 1953 to the Saturday between 31 October and 6 November.
DeleteSincere Condolences to the Queen.
ReplyDeleteIt was a Memorial service for all those who (until now) died in COVID-19
