The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took part in the filming for Pride of Britain Awards with Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway. The Mirror's Pride of Britain Awards was established in 1999 and is organized in partnership with TSB. The Awards celebrate the achievements of truly remarkable people who make our world a better place. Screened on ITV in November, it is the biggest awards show of its kind in the UK. This became the first time The Duchess has been involved for the event.
Smythe Duchess Wool Blazer
The jacket maybe stylishly I personally don't care for the cutout section on the back of Catherine's jacket.
ReplyDeleteI like it!
DeleteAgree. What was the designer thinking?
DeleteSame for me, have always loved it from the front:). Great blue to show NHS support. As a suit she looks wonderful.

I am glad that the duchess is dressing more contemporary and even though she is still within her classic style, she seems to use those dress/coats ( all similar) a lot less nowadays. Loved that she chose a blue on blue of different tones, she looks fantastic, and then I saw the jacket from behind.... is not flattering, not elegant and it can make you the "butt of the joke" - pun intented -
ReplyDeleteI agree. The view of her derriere is not flattering. Her pants should have been tailored to allow more room in the seat.
DeleteVery much agreed on being glad she is dressing more contemporary. The color scheme for this suit is great, and matches William's so well. And as far as the rest, well, you couldn't have said it more perfectly:)

I think it would have looked beautiful if her blue top was covering the hole behind the jacket, perhaps if the blue top was not tacked in

Le dos de la veste n'a rien d'élégant. Je dirais même très laid. Le designer aurait du réfléchir !!!
ReplyDeleteVery smart and welldressed couple!
ReplyDeleteI've always like this blazer from the front. From the back the cropped panel is a little jarring. I wonder if those are indeed the suit pants that go with the jacket. The fabric and material look like a close match. It would be very interesting to see the entire look from head to toe. The DoC rarely wears suits and I think she looks so much more serious and not to mention great in them. The bright blue shirt works. It kind of looks like they are shooting a partner cop movie. Lol.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I like her wearing a suit, I find this jacket a bit ridiculous at the backside......

Agree and it highlights the fact that the trousers do not fit properly and are extremely unflattering just where the jacket is cut away. The jacket is also a tad too tight across the shoulders. So is prince Williams jacket. I get the idea lately that the duchess gets everything very tightly taken in which sometimes looks very odd. i.e.that red coat yesterday. I spent a long time trying to see why it somehow just was not so nice as it should have been and i finally decided because the waist has been taken up and the coat made so narrow that it had lost something. I have noticed before that the duchess often has the waistline of her clothes about 2 or 3 centimetres above her natural waistline. I suspect because she is long waisted with rather short if very beautiful legs . The only clothes where I have not seen this are those custom made for her by the house of Alexander McQueen.
DeleteThe jacket looks very odd from behind, like there is missing a part of it. The blue color is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLovely tailored suit and the colours look lovely on the Duchess. I personally like the cut out at the back, however if wearing it the trousers need to fit perfectly - which they don't. Not at all flattering seen from the back.
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with this whimsical jacket if worn with a casual pair of jeans and a white tee (just like on the model) by a hip 20 something, out for a spot of shopping in Chelsea on a Saturday morning. But for Kate, and the occasion and the style she has chosen to wear it, it misses the mark for me totally. Blue is my favourite colour, but not these two blues together.

I don't see chemistry between them. Never... Catherine is so beautiful. Always.
ReplyDeleteI suppose there is a protocol to follow during royal public engagements.
DeleteWe do not know the amount of complicity between them in private.
Yes Maria but you know Sofia and Carl Philip...

DeleteI almost fell out of my chair with laughter after your quip.
I'm glad of your happiness.
Delete@Anna
DeleteGlad to bring you some cheerfulness.
Not the first time for this Smythe jacket, I never liked it. Quite in the sense of Cherry Blossom's "butt of the joke", it draws attention to a body part that can do well on it's own, without extra drawing attention to it. This applies mostly when worn with trousers, in combination with a skirt the dedsign plus such a "cutout" brings is not really evident.

Great to see a flattering trouser suit--can't see the legs properly but hopefully they are full length. The blouse is a lovely colour too. Undecided about the strange back--I quite liked it in the first photo and it shows off the perfect fit of her trousers, but it's just a wee bit strange-=for no apparent benefit. Good look overall, though
ReplyDeleteShe first wore the blazer in 2011, and owns it in olive as well. I did read that her pants are Smythe, so they should coordinate. The biggest problem that I can see is that the cut out is like an arrow to the unfortunate situation with her pants. I think at this point the blazers would look better in a more casual, fun look. The ends of her hair looks oxidized. I would suggest that she could be using better products for color treated hair. It may be a good excuse to remove several inches. I am happy to see her in a suit as opposed to a floral midi. This is a much better look. The belt and open jacket keep it more youthful.
ReplyDeleteOh she wears my fav, jacket, the Smythe-Thingy...I love this one. Frieda
ReplyDeleteEine Augenweide , bezaubernde Catherine !!
ReplyDeleteStimmt!
DeleteWedgie.
ReplyDeleteWedgie situation.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of brighter blue blouse worn with a navy suit but this look fails in execution. The pants don't fit well in the butt and the cut out on the jacket draws even more attention to it. I don't mind the jacket just not with these pants. Belt needs to go, too.

Kate Garraway is such a lovely person; she is dressed so bright and cheery. Kate G's husband is Gareth; who is in a London Hospital with Covid C; his condition is bad; so I pray that he makes a full recovery.
ReplyDeleteDid they run out of material in Duchess C's jacket; I fell over laughing.
The DoC’s hair looks beautiful and the outfit is nice except for the jacket. She has owned this Smythe jacket for years and I have never seen the appeal. The cutout in the back is awful.

Catherine looks tres chic in this jacket/trousers outfit. The color is great for her and the I like the style of the jacket both in front and in back.

@Renee
DeleteExactly my thoughts.
Sorry, I can understand all these negative judgements about Catherine's jacket.
Fashion offers many more original creations and this should be known when speaking about contemporary trends.
The jacket has a very original style and has a well tailored front/ back.
The pleated trousers on the back are the real issue.
If she had worn plain trousers , the effect would have been perfection.
These different shades of blue are very flattering on Catherine and match William's ensemble.
@* I can't understand all these negative judgements...
