On October 6, 2020, The Duchess of Cambridge visited first-year students at the University of Derby to hear how the pandemic has impacted university life and what national measures have been put in place to support student mental health. The University of Derby is a public university in the city of Derby.
The Duchess met with staff and students from the University of Derby and colleagues from the UK’s student mental health charity, Student Minds, ahead of World Mental Health Day on Saturday 10 October.
The visit concluded at the University’s Sports Centre, where the Duchess met with the President of the Union of Students, Corey Beck, and members of the Union’s Sports Societies to discuss the Peer Assisted Learning Scheme and how sport has helped them and their mental wellbeing.
The Duchess wore a new handcrafted checked wool coat by Massimo Dutti, and a new cashmere crew-neck sweater by the same brand.

Quite a different style for the Duchess but I am really liking it. That coat is just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteStunning, love her coat
ReplyDeleteI love this! This outfit is sooooo refreshing after her parade of mumsy floral dresses. It is age appropriate and also makes her look a lot more serious. She is not just a pretty face. It reminds me of something Queen Letizia or the Duchess of Sussex would wear. Love the soft shade and luxurious knit of the ice blue/grey sweater. The pants are polished and the pattern of the coat really adds interest without being matchy matchy. I love the suede shoes too! The block heels make it easier to walk and it works as it's in contrast with the delicate point of the toe box.
ReplyDeleteI hope to see her in many more outfits like this one this fall.
Kate looks good. The outfit works as a whole but each piece could easily be incorporated into other outfits. I really like mix of prints between the coat and mask.

Very attractive! This is how I like to see Kate dress. The coat is so much more modern than we have become accustomed to seeing her in. Terrific! The sweater is gorgeous. It fits her perfectly, and she has the perfect body to be able to tuck it in to her trousers without adding bulk to her midsection. I love the straighter hair. She has coordinated her mask and is wearing that adorable initial necklace. The only thing I would possibly change would be the shoes. It would have been amazing to see her shake it up a bit with a mid-heel dress bootie. The pumps are very safe.
ReplyDeleteWithout the coat she could be one of them: looking so , with this hairstyle also.
ReplyDeleteThe coat is gorgeous!
The shoes donot fit with the rest: flat moccasins or boots would have been more in style.
I meant: so young
DeleteDuchess of Cambridge doesn't look British. Am I right?
ReplyDeleteI don't understand what that means. Are you trying to say British Royal? I know there is more to British fashion than midi-length ditsy florals. Can you elaborate?
DeleteI mean her look: hair color, eyes color, her face.
DeleteYes, her style is british but I wonder if she has English type of beauty.
Bezaubernde Herzogin Catherine , bisher macht sie auch alles richtig !!
ReplyDeleteDifferent look for the Duchess today but very appropriate for her visit to students at University. The coat is lovely and I like the sweater and the shoes. To Anon 10:41, for booties I can only picture the awful things that Crown Princess Victoria is so keen on which makes me nervous about suggestions that anyone else should ear them. I've seen her wear better trousers but these are okay.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't know what to say to you about not knowing anything about booties other than what Victoria has worn. I am the first to admit that Victoria does not have the best wardrobe or shoes. There are really nice boots and booties that can be worn in a variety of ways. I guess that I assume too often that people on a fashion blog know more about fashion/footwear than they really do.
DeleteI found some video of Kate walking without her coat on and I agree that the cut of her pants is not very flattering. They should be tailored to keep the line of the leg slim.
I love everything but I think it's time she got a haircut
ReplyDeleteNice outfit; but once the coat comes off you can see the unfortunate fit of the pants around her hips - unusual for the Duchess. ~Laurel~
ReplyDeleteThe pants are not ill fitting, there are pockets, but they look bad because of the darkness. I have seen lighter pictures and they look perfect.
DeleteThe idea behind the outfit is very appropriate with the scope of her visit. The pants are a poor choice, this cut does her no favours. The best look is with the coat on, so you don’t see the bulk around the hips. Refreshing to see something different than the never ending parade of midi dresses. CH
ReplyDeleteThis is a great outfit. Love the pants, perfect fit. Cashmere jumper is gorgeous. I do really like the addition of more subtle pieces of jewellery, bracelet, necklace and lovely earrings.
ReplyDeleteYoung, fresh, classic, and classy; From the coat, to the sweater, pants, shoes, makeup, hairstyle, shoes. It was all spot on.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Love the sweater in the icy blue and the coat is great.
ReplyDeleteYes! A refreshing, modern look. There is a lightness about her as opposed to when she wears the heavy coatdresses and printed midi length dresses. Ana1
ReplyDeleteHurray for no more skinny jeans!!!!! My wish has been answered, no need to say any more. Please please please Kate, donate all your skinny jeans to charity, stick to tailored pants from now on, they are your best friend! They are effortlessly chic and can be easily adapted to any occasion, formal, business, casual and anything in between. Now, I admit, these particular pair may not be the best out there (the side pockets are unfortunate), but they are still light years better than the skin-tight jeans she used to favour for these types of events. - AnnieM
ReplyDelete+ Like the outfit - a refreshing change from the frumpy flowery midi dresses.
ReplyDelete- Not sure about the lighter coloured hair, it makes her skin tone look unnatural and her face tired. Darker brunette suits her much better and makes her beautiful eye colour pop
I think she looks just lovely. Great color, hair, jewelry and make-up. Very put together look with the coat too. The length of the pants give it that business-casual look that seems great for a campus visit, I agree with others about how in some pics the pants bulge out on the hip/legs- a common problem for slim ladies in this cut/style.
