On October 12, 2020, King Felipe, Queen Letizia and their daughters Crown Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia attended National Day 2020 celebrations at the Plaza de la Armería of the Royal Palace of Madrid. During a ceremony, the National Flag was raised and a homage ceremony to the National Flag took place. Queen Letizia wore a bespoke dress and coat from Felipe Varela.

October 12 is a national holiday in Spain. It is officially called as the Fiesta Nacional, or the Dia de la Hispanidad – Hispanic Day –. On that day, Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas in 1492. The participation at the celebration was limited this year due to the pandemic. This year, the traditional reception in the halls of the palace was not held after the military event.

  2. Good of the Queen to repeat a coat rather than buying a new one, like she always does for the National Day.
The princesses have grown so much! They must be the pride and joy of their parents. Their clothing styles are very different and it shows from now only. Yet they match each other in subtle ways. I can also see Leonore in tiny heels, so cute!
And KIng Felipe looks amazing in the full uniform, it suits him very well.

  3. I don't like burgundy dress with red coat, the other way round would have been better. Girls beautifully dressed, as per usual.

  4. Always a pleasure to watch, this family.
Of all three lovely ladies I love Sophias outfit most: very mature for her age ( and Leonore a bit too childish).

    1. I think it is just the contrary, Leonor's one is more mature, are you sure who is each one?

    2. Leonor and Sofía...are their names, they are Spanish, not British.

    3. Agree. I especially like Sophia's top. The waistband Leonor's skirt throws the whole look off. The cummerbund detail wasn't done well. It reminds me of a sash on a flower girl's dress. Both girls have gorgeous hair.

    4. Leonore is not a British name either.

Only one is a princess (Leonor) the other one (Sofia) is an Infanta. Leonor is being educated to be someday a Queen, while Sofia is relegated to a second place/role not that important. I find this system cruel for both girls, but especially for Sofia. I can't stand monarchies in the 21st century this is so ridiculous.

  10. Sofia wins the day. Love her top with the long, draping sash. She looks like a mini Letizia. Leonor looks beautiful as well, I like how they coordinate without matching. As for Letizia, she can't go wrong in red. Love the darker dress with brighter coat. Felipe is always so handsome in his military uniform.

    Leonors skirt is great :-)

  12. I believe by looking at the pictures that if Letizia did not have heels on Sophia would be taller than her mother.

    1. Soon even the highest heels will not give Letizia the height she so desires. Being married to a very tall man, at least one of the daughters will be on the tall side (Sofia is already on course for that, but who knows). And lately, future-queen Leonor is wearing higher heels than Sofia to subtly give the illusion of more height. ~Laurel~

    2. Letizia is not exactly short, even though it sometimes seems that way because of her very tall husband and daughter. Sofia seems to be around the same height as Letizia without heels - she's 1,70m apparently - and she's only 13, so she'll be a very tall woman for sure :)
Leonor, while shorter than her sister, will probably also reach 1,75m or something, so also be on the tall side.

    3. Anónimo13/10/20, 12:19 a. M. How do you know that the queen wants HEIGHT? She has a very tall husband and I'm sure she is as proud of Sofía's height as she is of Leonor. And Leonor's little heels, they can be 2-3 cm, they don't give her any advantage in that sense. It only means that she is the older of the two sisters and seeing a 13-year-old girl with heels in Spain is not normal or desirable. Eleanor's little heel is really "nothing".

  13. In most families today, the children are taller than their parents. Among people who are not 2 meters tall, the queen looks normal, and in most of her off duty appearances she wears ballerinas or trainers. The heels seem to be a part of her work wardrobe not a desire for height. Ana 1

    1. @ Laurel, how do you know what the Queen so desires? It seems to me that she likes high heels much like Máxima, Mary and most of the “ Younger generation of Queens/ Royals” and why would Leonor be wearing a little bit of heel just to give the impression that she is taller than her sister? Do you think that is why, or did she simply decided on these shoes? Do you think they spend much time conspiring behind the palace curtains to fool the population and make us believe that they are very tall and therefore better? Seems to me that your imagination and theories are running a little wild....

  14. They are all dressed beautifully! Letizia's shoes are to die for and they go so well with her outfit. She's a very modern, yet classic dresser. I love Leonor's little block heels, so appropriate for her age. Love Sofia's top too, very unique. It sure helps to have a very stylish mum to guide you in your sartorial choices!

  15. So sad that circumstances mean the masks need to be worn because they all look fabulous. Letizia is wonderful in red which really is her colour. I love that now the girls are older we are beginning to get an idea of their individual style. I like Leonor's skirt - not sure about the top tucked in and love her hair. Sofia looks great - elegant and fashionable.

  16. IMO Letizia looks perfect with this simple dress and coat, with some details that make it great, like the way the coat ties, or the clutch or even the shoes (those ones I love it).
Felipe as always looks wonderful with his military uniform.
    It's a beautiful family portrait

  17. The normal thing is that our children are taller in the future, than us. And that alone is a source of pride for any parent, whether they have a child who is 2 meters tall or 1.50 cm ... Nobody gives as much importance to height as those who criticize. By the way, there are not very tall generations among future queens and I don't see them being taller than their mothers. Should that be a cause for concern? LOL

  18. Love the Queen’s outfit, especially the red coat. Not keen on either of the girls’ outfits, both very bland. Good to see Leonore in low heels rather than the unflattering ‘ballerinas’

    1. Why people insist with Leonore? It is LEONOR...

    2. I don't know - do you think it might just possibly maybe perhaps be, you know, just like a typo? What with not everyone here being in countries where Leonor is the version of the name maybe good old predictive text is just taking over. Just a thought...

Also, given that is not unusual for the Spanish version of names to be used in Spain I can't what the issue is if it's slipped through in another language. I'm thinking of la Reina Isabel, la Princesa Carolina, Carlota Casiraghi to name just a few.

    1. What I find sad is the number of commenters on this site who conduct some sort of linguistic parsing exercise on every single phrase in order to get offended. Sometimes people just use unfortunate turns of phrase...

  20. Sofia's height is truly remarkable. Both girls are going to be tall women but Sofia will be way over 6". She is 13, on flats and level with her mother in very high heels.

  21. Anonymous @ 9:42 if you are referring to my comment, far from it, you don’t need to conduct linguistics exercises to see the intention of the comment regarding the conspiracy about their height , totally speculative and also devoid of any fashion ( or common) sense, that being said if you ever read this blog you may be familiar with the ugly criticism from this poster towards the Spanish Royal family, specially the queen , she seem to have a personal dislike for her...
