OSCAR DE LA RENTA cotton and wool blend tweed dress and jacket
Queen Maxima opened the new building of Theater Zuidplein in Rotterdam
On September 16, 2020, Queen Maxima of The Netherlands attended the opening of the new building of Theater Zuidplein in Rotterdam. Theater Zuidplein’s productions address current issues/events in today’s society In addition to Theater Zuidplein, this new building also houses a location of the Rotterdam Library. Queen Maxima wore a tweed dress and jacket from Oscar de la Renta.
Superb
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
DeleteWOW! I love the outfit and hair. Not sure about the saucer hat but otherwise, this is Queen Maxima at her best.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased to see the return of the hats. The Queen has been hatless during the summer season.
DeleteThis is probably exhibit N°1 of her autumn collection. Can't wait to see what other "wonder" creations she is going to treat us to.
Belle harmonie de couleurs entre le tailleur et tous les accessoires. Magnifique chapeau original ; il n'y a qu'elle pour porter ce style ! J'aurais bien aimé la voir avec les escarpins du mannequin qui sont très élégants !
ReplyDeleteStunning look from head to toe! Quite a balancing act to keep the hat in place I would think.
ReplyDeleteHer Majesty looks absolutely smashing. Perhaps a bit overdressed but I think every detail is absolutely perfect cap-a-pie.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you Joanne .
DeleteIt would have been a lovely outfit is the jacket had been worn and the gloves discarded. The hat is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, why she does this I don’t know. Always looks awkward like it will fall off at any time
DeleteI agree. The jacket is so cute I wish she'd worn it rather than used it as a cape.
DeleteIf she insists on keeping her hair long, she should put it up like this all the time as it is much more attractive up than down.
I agree.

The Queen was wrong to put the jacket over her shoulder.
ReplyDeleteI always like Maxima's colourful appearances and her jewellery, but lately I notice I'm having reservations about the issue, as her expenditure on clothing and accessories seems obscenely expensive, so much so that it alienates her from the lifestyle of the average Dutch person to start off with, not to mention billions of poorer people worldwide. Too opulent and luxurious turns you off. I think she needs a more 'approachable' style in the way of Victoria of Sweden, or Kate Middleton, or Sophie of Wessex. Maxima's wealth is tangible in her clothing, and it simply puts me off because its monetary value is visible and excessive. - Ellie
ReplyDeleteMaybe but this outfit is a re-wear and most of the jewels are inherited. I think she’s being mindful of this for the last few months as many of the outfits could be classed as smart business wear rather than blingy outfits. She does seem to wear pieces from Zara. I think that maybe Máxima is one of those women who never quite dresses down? Plus there is also the expectation that she needs to dress in a certain way as she is a Queen.
Delete"too opulent and luxurious" never turns me off!
Delete@Ellie: I do agree, not only because the outfit is expensive but because it is overdone and over-the-top, fully overacting her role as queen. It all seems to come from the dressing suitcase where the queen costumes are kept....... in my opnion this is a far cry from the real chique, which has nothing to do with loudness, a lot of jewelry, and enormous hats....
DeleteLily T. .....who else
By the way, I love the way Letizia looks, only needing a perfectly cut pink dress and glossy hair to look effortlessly elegant.... just saying.....
So true
DeleteAlways, always complaining about Maxima. Really....
ReplyDeleteEverybody has the right to have an opinion, even when it is not yours!
DeleteThis esemble is very beautiful on Princess Maxima. She is an asset to
ReplyDeletethis blog in behalf of contens of her clossesds. The hairstyle needs discussion.
She is a Queen!
DeleteAnon 5:50 PM, totally agree!
DeleteBig spender and I do like style.

ReplyDeleteMaxima looks fabulous. I like the outfit (fits her well..a little snug maybe, which is perhaps why she didn't wear the jacket properly), the shoes, the bag, the hair...even the hat. However if there was one thing I would change, it would be the hat. It's nice enough, but it reminds me of Saturn and it's rings.

This time I really like Maxima' s outfit very much!
ReplyDeleteStanding ovation!
Her bag and shoes are gorgeous!
An elegant look - I really like the suit, simple yet interesting, it suits the Queen well. Although I too would like to see arms in sleeves! A minor quibble though.
ReplyDeleteI was so thrilled with this outfit on Maxima, until I saw the cleavage. Oouuch. An incredibly chic overall look that could have been such a great home run for Maxima, wrecked because the neckline is an inch and a half too low. Completely avoidable fail. Wah.
ReplyDeleteWith Maxima there is always a “ too”: too much, too less; too unkempt, too..etc.
ReplyDeleteThis time she shows us how beautifull she can be with a little help from the coiffeur and Oscar de la Renta.
From one extreme to another.
Indeed, when she really thinks about it like on state Visits, she is stunning.
DeleteHello!!
ReplyDeleteI find this Oscar superb, a little on the fence about the fringe but possibly is what it makes it a little different. This outfit could have been sober if worn with a smaller or no hat, the jacket on and gloves off, but then it won't have been Máxima. I think she looks exhuberant and that is her intent. I don't have an opinion about whether she needs to tone it down and pretend that she is thrifty, after all most royals are very wealthy and what would be the point pretending that they aren't? This style would be outrageous if visiting the streets of a poor country, but being where it is it seems in line with her style. All in all I think she looks very good and a little retro.
@"This outfit could have been sober if worn with a smaller or no hat, the jacket on and gloves off, but then it won't have been Máxima. "
DeleteExactly!!! :-) and welcome back Cherry, hope all is well and you are healthy. (-Ann.)
Agree , welcome back Cherry Blossom .
DeleteYes agree with Anon's 10:19 PM, 10:24 PM, welcome back. Missed your input!
DeleteI think Máxima looks great! Yes, it is an expensive outfit. But she has already worn it several times before, so it's recycling. About the comparison to Kate, Sophie and Victoria: a quite big difference is that they are princesses, and Máxima is the queen.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you Zita.
DeleteTotally agree with you too Zita.
DeleteJudy.
Ooooh superb. Adore the hat, love the hair, love the outfit both together and the dress and jacket separately. Rarely notice bags... they are just not my thing...but this one looks beautiful as are the shoes and gloves. My only quibble is ,again, the jacket slung over the shoulders instead of worn normally. It's a minor quibble though. This is one fantastic outfit.
ReplyDeleteagree with Ellie.... earrings of Euro 500, a belt of Euro 700........... how great it is, she's recycling........... better of with the Swedish and Spanish royals, who act in this century........
ReplyDeleteHigh five. Maxima is a clown.

She looks great - I like this tweed outfit. She wears the hat with panache and her hair is great styled like this.
ReplyDeleteAgain I wish she didn't wear the jacket like this and I find the gloves are slight overkill but really I'm just quibbling.
Personally I don't see why people who can afford it shouldn't spend money on well-made clothes that will last. If she was marching around a slum in velvets and diamonds i could see the objection but i think this occasion is perfectly appropriate to the outfit.
Plaid dress, too busy, too plaid. No defined waistline makes her look thick in the middle. The saucer thing on her head, how does it stay on?
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love this tweed ensemble. Her hat, bag and shoes perfectly compliment the look. Beautiful hair and make-up. I wish she ditched the gloves.
ReplyDeleteE.B.B.
She looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteAnna
Dress is plaid, no waist line, makes her appear thick in the waist/middle.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great look from Maxima! She looks classic and elegant. This is an outfit that will survive in her closet for many years, and can be updated by removing the fringe if she cares to. I have no problem with her wearing her jacket over her shoulders. It is not as formal a look, but I don't know that she needed to be that formal. I love the imperfection of her updo. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI agree with most of this post, except "will survive in her closet for many years" would be nice but not realistic. I think it fine if she re-wears it a few times within a certain period of time. We like it, she can re-wear in a fortnight... I certainly agree with "no problem" about the way she wears the jacket and the neckline is perfect to me. Next time she could wear it in a less formal way yes...
DeleteJust love it.
ReplyDeleteBack to the good old days!! I don´t comment politics, I don´t comment money, I just comment this one outfit: she looks fun and she looks great!!
ReplyDeleteI have come to adore Queen Maxima"s free spirit, Bohemian, Mame Dennis vibe.....The smile is infectious and I admire her more serious side when she is educating single mothers about finance.....ooh!!! its nice to see her pretty side chignon.....Fitzhugh
ReplyDeleteMame Dennis! That is pretty accurate!
DeleteThis is a fabulous outfit from head to toe, the Queen looks incredible. Love the hat, blends in well with her outfit. Pearl drop earrings are superb. Her hair looks great up, she looks so elegant.
ReplyDeletewow, great style. -Siri
ReplyDeletePreviously she looked like she had on bad curtains with the frilly, yellow, dress. Now this time her outfit reminds me of a tablecloth. Perhaps it is the fringe. The tweed pattern in not bad, but the hat is like a small flying saucer.
