On Saturday 5 September, 2020, the confirmation of Prince Sverre Magnus of Norway, the only son of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, took place in Asker church. Due to the coronavirus pandemic restrictions, only 16 guests were invited to the confirmation service.
The ceremony was attended by King Harald and Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Marius Borg Høiby and his girlfriend Juliane Snekkestad, Marit Tjessem, Princess Märtha Louise, Leah Isadora Behn, Per Høiby, Kristin Høiby, Julia Høiby, Espen Høiby, Bjørn Stensland and Marianne Gjellestad.
After the confirmation service, the Royal Family attended a reception with Praeses of the Church of Norway, Olav Fykse Tveit, at Skaugum. The confimation service was attended by none of the Prince's godparents living outside Norway. The Norwegian Royal Family had decided to obey the recommendations in connection with the current pandemic, issued by the Norwegian government and therefore, the Royal Family celebrated the confirmation only with close family members.
Why are only the women in costumes?
ReplyDeleteIt’s a personal choice. The men can wear costumes if they want to:)
DeleteIndeed. I see that in other occasions too, where only women wear the traditional costumes. Why not the men too?
DeleteIt isn’t as usual for men to wear a “bunad” (our national costume) as it is for the girls. A lot of girls get a bunad for their confirmation, but guys usually wear suits and don’t have a bunad
DeleteTradition. It have never been tradition that the royal men wear bunad.
DeletePrince Haakon usually wears one for National Day.

ReplyDeleteHow I love it that they cherish their traditions!
ReplyDeleteIn my eyes it represents irreplaceable values.
The women are very elegant in their traditional costumes.
What a lovely and warm family.
I couldn't agree more! Wonderful photos, what a lovely family occasion

I fully agree too.
DeleteThe Norwegian national dresses of the ladies are wonderful! So much variety and complicated hand- and needlework. A feast for the eyes. The Queen loooks stunning ! :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!
DeleteMe too! Just lovely!

Martha Louise and crutches - what has happened to her?
ReplyDeleteLovely to see the ladies in national dress and nice that Marius came to his stepbrother's special day too
ReplyDeleteHalf brother :)
DeleteDespite restrictions, Magnus was still able to celebrate his day in an intimate ceremony with close family. I love seeing Ingrid and Leah in their bunads gifted them by their grandparents. The King looks like he lost weight.

So the headline is about Sverre Magnus... yet you have to scroll through 13 photos to finally get to a photo of SM on his big day.
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost this is a fashion blog. The fashion of the attendees is what we are being shown, not the ceremony itself. Sverre Magnus is not wearing anything that can be commented on.
Deletehahaha! You're right, only at the last photo I was reminded this is about Sverre!
DeleteNonetheless, all the family members look fantastic! Happy healthy and all! We can see where the boy comes from :)

I agree. Even though this ceremony gives us another opportunity to see the wonderful bunads of the royal ladies, the young prince remains to be in the spotlight !
DeleteYou misunderstand:
DeleteIts not about him: his confirmation is the occasion for dressing up, like mostly is the case on this site.
Nothing wrong there.
The national costumes are gorgeous. Queen Sonja looks exceptionally beautiful. The young prince seemed to give the ceremony the seriousness it deserves. He seems like such a nice young man.
ReplyDeleteThe women look great in their traditional costumes! I hope that the King is not ill...he seems to have lost a lot of weight.
ReplyDeleteJudy.
A great day for Sverre Magnus. The ladies looks magnificent in traditional costume. The richness, colour, accessories worn and workmanship that goes into these gowns is simply exquisite. The garments are beautifully crafted, a work of art. I have never seen Queen Sonja look more beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBunads are wonderful costumes which can leave you speechless!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Sverre!
Sorry for Martha- Louise.
I would like to wish more happiness and prosperity to the entire Norwegian Royal Family.
ReplyDeleteFinally two pictures where Prins Sverre Magnus is in focus. He looks very nice!
ReplyDeleteFrom Joann: I love their outfits. It's so rewarding to see a culture honoring their
ReplyDeletetraditions.
