      j. you are completely wrong! My husband has been in healthcare over 30 years and is well-acquainted with the properties of viruses. This particular virus can linger in the air for up to three hours. Transmission is predominately through the air in ALL countries. Only the foolish and selfish think that masks are not needed. In the United States, the states that have enforced masks are seeing new cases in lower numbers than the states that are not enforcing masks. Those numbers are in the thousands every week now. Listen to those people who spend their lives studying viruses and know more than you do.

Well said, Meghan. I also want to point out that Spain is in the top 10 for number of Covid cases. They are one of the country's hit hardest by Covid.

I live in Connecticut one of the states hit hardest by Covid. Our number of hospitalizations and cases are going down on a daily basis but that is because we (for the most part) are wearing masks. It is so scary seeing other states continue to peak. I have family members who are healthcare workers who I haven't seen since this all started. Wearing a mask is a small thing we can all do to not only protect those around us but to give tired, mentally exhausted healthcare workers a much need reprieve.

    8. Laurel...and how do you know that a person is healthy? You can get the virus all of a sudden and you do not know it, you can be asyntomatic or even starting with syntoms when you have spread it to thousands.
I think I see very little information here.

    9. It is not just Spain. Italy and Austria and Czech Republic and many others. There are now some reports about this virus being airborne. We haven't been told the full truth about this thing. They also wrote masks during the Spanish flu 100 years ago.

    10. I cannot DISAGREE more with you An1:25! Spain is widely affected, and absolutely wants to be able to attract tourists, AND has a tradition of celebrating death in a very intensive way, if I can say so. Fully agree with Meghan. Here as well we are very critical of those who participate maskless in parties etc.

Over-doing the 'mask thing' will be wearing 5 masks at one go, not wearing one mask during a situation of global pandemic. And other countries were hit more because they don't wear masks all the time, so your statement kind of proves my point. Spain could curb their enormous spread successfully because their citizens are law-abiding, science believing humans, not conspiracy theorists.

Fashionwise, I like what I see. Very well-chosen outfits. Both girls wearing their respective dresses better than the models. Their flat shoes are fine, but I agree with the comment saying that a low heel wouldn´t hurt.

The ignorance of some coments here...I won't be debating with people who think they know better with healthcare workers or scientists, but I'm going to point out some thing that J, Laurel and Vanessa failed to notice: IT IS SPANISH LAW. We are obligated by law to wear a mask in public transportation, closed spaces and if we can't ensure the 1,5 meters distance with others. Royals are not the exception, and they are attending a mass, so yeah, they have to wear the mask.

I can't believe that there are still ignorants and complete idiots in this world who play down Sars COV 2, talk about deprivation of freedom and exaggeration in protecting against the virus .I don't wish anybody anything bad but here I hope the virus picks the right people! But unfortunately it doesn't. The Spanish Royals do the only right thing! Frieda

Sounds like you do wish for something bad to happen to some people.
And if there was any point in mask wearing, the virus would logically indeed pick the people that you´d prefer to see picked. Luckily (for my side of the debate), you´ve noted yourself that that´s not the case. The virus just doesn´t care for masks.

So, Vanessa, you think wearing a mask is against your rights??
Is wearing a seat belt against your right to drive unencumbered?
Is wearing a bicycle helmet against your right to an uncovered head?
Are wearing shoes in a business against your right to bare feet?

And, Laurel, you just keep researching...I am sure you have years of experience studying viruses.

The level of ignorance, pride, and selfishness will continue to kill people around the world.

    22. To Meghan

Wearing seat belts and bike helmets has an immediate safety benefit that is obvious for anyone to see. Masks on the other hand are controversial for many reasons. Seat belts and bike helmets are used to the same effect everywhere whereas the use and effect of masks varies greatly. Seat belts and bike helmets have no adverse effects. Masks do. Seat belts and bike helmets are worn only during the activities they are intended for. Masks are recommended for most activities out in public. I can choose not to go by car or bike, but I have to use public spaces - which severely limits my freedoms guaranteed by law. Seat belts come with the car, and bike helmets are a once-off expense, but masks are single-use items (if done right). The rules for seat belts and bike helmets apply to everyone whereas there are numerous exceptions for the use of masks.
      ...
I could go on but I hope this illustrates amptly that your comparison is fairly useless.

I´m not against protective measures. Of course not. Protection is good.
But you´re comparing apples and oranges.
If I wear a seat belt it is to protect ME.
If I wear a bike helmet it is to protect ME.
But I am expected to wear a mask to allegedly protect YOU.

I always try to be considerate towards others, and many things are just common sense or normal courtesy (wearings shoes in a business is one of those things too). But masks don´t fall into that category, and yes, they go against my rights. That is indeed the case. They go against your rights too, only that you´re fine with that, and I´m not.

You are free to protect yourself all you want. If it makes you feel safe, then good for you. But I´m not responsible for how safe you feel. I´m not responsible for anybody´s feelings. If you think that masks protect you then wear your mask and feel protected.

There´s nothing more selfish than demanding others to do something for you, so that YOU feel better.

There are actual violation of fundamental rights occurring all over the world and then there are people fighting for their 'rights' by not wearing masks! I wonder which of your fundamental rights get violated when you are asked to do something for general welfare? The right to only think for yourself?

The Royal Family are an inspiration to us all, they not only look very smart, but are exemplifying how "smart" it is to wear a mask in public - to look after others!! Apart from that, it is the law here and we respect that...

Vanessa, I sometimes think that your statements are a way of trolling or that you really think that you know more than all scientists, and medical professionals combined. I think that you are entitled to throw your temper tantrums and wear your irresponsible defiance as a badge of honor, in a complete mental confusion between freedom and inconvenience. In the US people like you are responsible for the resurgence of this horrible disease, we almost had it under control with isolation and distancing, we were ready to restart the economy and if we had only followed very simple steps, we won't have 133.000 deaths and 38 states about to collapse the hospitals again. People are dying alone, unable to breath and in many cases with enough cognition of what's to come. Don't even mention the " low mortality rate" that is a stupid statement, and yes, lots of people are surviving this
disease, the young and strong that are hospitalized are having organ failures, strokes and their lungs will be scarred forever, they will probably walk away with side effects for life, and with such monumental medical bills that insurance companies will pass the cost to the rest of us, the ones that are selfless, the ones doing all the right things. Ultimately history will put things in perspective and we will wonder how people could have been so ignorant and uneducated in a world where information and education is at our fingertips.

CB, I agree with you, completely. Unfortunately, it is not possible to connect with Vanessa on any level. Many people have tried to appeal to her compassionate side, but she doesn't seem to have one. Time and time again, her comments are out of touch with reality, and she can't get past how an issue effects her personally. I have considered that her comments are not genuine and she is only trying to get a reaction. Because her opinions can hurt/harm people, it makes us want to jump in to contradict her. Vanessa will not bend. She will argue until the ink runs dry. I have decided to try ignoring her, hoping her propaganda does not spread, like putting a tourniquet on a snake bite. I suspect I will feel like I just saw someone get hit by a car and I walked away without giving aid, so it may not last. When a person is like this, so deeply oppositional, focused on themselves instead of the greater good, and let's not forget all-knowing, it is a problem that can't be addressed by anyone on this blog. I appreciate your comments, even if the intended target doesn't.
