| Queen Margrethe turns 80 years old on 16 April 2020. In connection with the birthday, the Royal Danish House published a series of new portraits by photographer Per Morten Abrahamsen. The portraits were taken in the autumn and winter of 2019 in Christian IX’s Palace at Amalienborg and at Fredensborg Palace. The series contains both generational portraits of The Queen together with Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Christian as well as individual portraits of The Queen. |

DeleteThe earring is not hanging perfectly. That is a very petty observation. It is also real life. What makes these these photos so nice is that they are not stuffy, like the BRF would have done. There is physical contact. Margrethe shows warmth. She also shows us that she is just like the rest of us--that minor imperfection with her earring makes her human and relatable.

DeleteI'm Scandinavian as well, so I totally get your point. but I never said that I disliked the photos. Now stop making it seem like I did. Pointing out a bad earring is not the same as hating on the pictures.
Maybe its the angle of her head or the camera and the earrings are not even hanging wrong at all. By the shape of them it looks pretty hard to hang them wrong....Who knows!!!
DeleteHowever, I did dislike how the earring hung. I was a perfectionist even as a young child. I remember rewriting letters, words and sentences at elementary school whenever I thought something wasn't pretty enough, but hey, that's me and that's my problem, but it doesn't make me petty. We can't possibly know what other people are like based on a comment section and everyone has their reasons for noticing different things. In my first comment I even wrote something positive to weigh up for that one minor little criticism because I didn't want to be a rude person.

But dear Prince Frederik, I've said it before, please get in touch with your cousin Prince Daniel for the name and address of his tailor. Or maybe you just don't like wearing a suit. Maybe you feel more comfortable in sporting clothes. Prince Christian is going to break many a young girl's heart.

DeleteThese are not formal portraits. And what do you all of you have to say about Prince Charles who has his hands in his jacket pockets quite frequently? He has done this since he was a young man. I am quite certain he went to "good English boys' school[s]", and I know he was "a well brought up young man".

DeleteI have never seen Prince Charles with his hands in his PANTS pocket/s. Yes, he often puts them in his jacket or coat pocket/s. It is two different things. The other golden rule for young men in upper class schools is that - when a lady walks into a room you stand up. Old fashioned perhaps but respect for a lady in a public place was/is a priority. Today ??????

In photos N°2 and N°3 he’s got one hand tucked into his trouser pocket giving a bit of a “Napoleon” look.
Prince Christian has got both hands deep in his pockets.

So his spirit is here with them together on this pic!
If I remember it correctly, the brooch originally comes from her maternal grandmother Margaret (born Connaught) who also was called Daisy.

I think the queen looks great, and although I agree that Christian looks very promising, I don't like the pictures. In the first one they sem too far apart and it seems as if the queen is trying to get them to get closer, in the second one I like the hands on the grandmother shoulder, but Frederick looks distant again and in the third one it seems too closed as if taken in a small lift, maybe someone else is more eloquent in discribing what I see, but it seems to me a huge contrast with the previous post with portraits of the queen and these three pictures

Wishing her a happy birthday. My mum is eighty this year too and very sad her big party with all her dear friends is not on. I feel sure her majesty is disappointed too. She looks wonderful, purple is her colour. Christian looks very grown up in his suit and I resembles Princess Mary's dad quite abit.
