On April 27, today, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima, Princess Amalia, Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane are celebrating the King's Day at their home, Paleis Huis ten Bosch. The King's Day is one of the main public holidays in the Netherlands. However, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the advice of the government to stay home, this year, the holiday's name has been changed as Woningsdag, or "Home's Day".
The King's Day is celebrated every year on April 27 in Netherlands. On this day, the reigning King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander was born. During the day, photos of the celebration of King's Day by the Royal Family will be shared through television, messages on the social media channels of the Royal House and also the website www.koningsdagthuis.nl. Dutch royals will contact with television channels and the said website via video calls. Due to the corona crisis, the celebration in Maastricht could not take place this year.
Queen Maxima wore a new floral print silk satin half sleeve wide-leg jumpsuit by Seren. Princess Catharina-Amalia wore a new broderie anglaise cotton midi dress by Lisa Marie Fernandez. Princess Alexia wore a new shirt dress by Karl Lagerfeld.
Lovely ladies, and the King looks very good too. I like the yellow dress best.
ReplyDeleteThe girls look more and more grown up, especially Alexia, the redhead!
ReplyDeleteEven at only 15 years old, Princess Alexia is starting to maturing into a very beautiful woman.
DeleteThose girls are lovelier everytime you see them. Just look at them!
ReplyDeleteJust what I thought too.
DeleteA strange day this year.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see how new initiatives are taken to celebrate this national day!!!
Happy birthday to our king!!!

ReplyDeleteHappy ‘homeday’ for king’s day!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the belt and shoes. The belt looks like it was thrown on just so she would have a belt when it looks so much better without one, and the shoes are very clunky.
DeleteI agree about belt and above all about the red shoes. Maxima's hair is ok today. Each one has chosen a specific style, they are all ok in casual style.

ReplyDeleteGreat picture of the family. Where have all the years gone? The girls look so grown-up and poised. I like all the outfits. I like Maxima's, but unfortunately, I can't wear anything like that. My hips are too big.
Lovely photos of all of them. Happy Kings Day (or 'Stay Home' Day) to this lovely family and the people of The Netherlands.
ReplyDelete(PS A question: I've heard of Broderie Anglaise as also referred to as 'eyelet' fabric. I know that it has eyelets and embroidery in round patterns as part of it, but is 'eyelet' a common name for the fabric? TIA)

DeleteLES OEILLETS ET LE POINT DE PLUMETIS
Thank you for the explanation. 😊
DeleteThank you for that helpful info Achard, and for the question Anon 5:39:)

Merci Archard. Ta commentaire était très interressante.

What a good description of broderie anglaise (that's its real name in English too.)
DeleteOHHH Maxima that belt and shoes! What gets into you? It just spoilt totally an elegant casual suit even if I am not crazy about the suit. With just a simple pair of sandles and no belt but a pair of your ever crazy red and blacck enormous earrings you would have looked so nice.
Lovely photo of the Family. Sadly the Kings day could not be celebrated with the people. This invisible virus does so much harm to humanity. We have to rethink of a new normal. I am finally over this virus, believe me it forced me to my knees. I wish everyone stay healthy.
ReplyDeleteThey are a lovely family but they really all need a stylist.
ReplyDeleteYou might not like their outfits but many here do. I think they look beautiful.
DeleteWouldn’t have dared to write that down, but, helas, I couldn’t agree more...
DeleteI like their outfits comfortable for a stay at home celebration.
ReplyDeleteTo Anon 7 29, sorry you were ill and glad you are recovering.
ReplyDeleteIt may seem frivolous but it is lovely just to look at clothes and be able to comment. I like the younger girls' dresses but the Queen's outfit is just too flowery for me and Catharina Amalia's dress is too yellow! I love the Queen's red shoes and Amalia's sandals--would prefer them as heels but wedges make sense---for her and for me! Great to see the family together for this event and dressed up for a party even if at home.
Princess Catharina-Amalia's face is so special and radiant. She will be a beautiful Queen one day. The rest of the family is beautiful as well! :)
ReplyDeleteThey all look lovely, happy and above all, healthy
ReplyDeleteI love Maxima’s outfit and admire that her hair looks silky and shiny.
ReplyDeleteThe outfits are happy and summery, and although I think that Adriane´s dress is on the short side and Maxima´s shoes are horrid, I like this overall fun and non-matchy appearance.
ReplyDeleteAlso, interesting interior wall designs.
@Vanessa - I have read that Beatrix's previous "Green Room" has been redone and is now the "DNA Room". The THOUsands of bricks on the wallpaper apparently represent the DNA mapping of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima.
DeleteAmalia is beautiful and looks lovely in her yellow dress.
~Laurel~
Vanessa, aren't you the same person that criticized Princess Leonore's summer dress on her birthday? Apparently it was skimpy. I bet you're really conservative and wear turtlenecks everyday.
DeleteTo anonymous 7:02:
DeleteNo, I was not one of the many people who critizised Leonore´s summer dress.
I love the outfits, but dislike the way they decorate the house especially the wallpaper.
ReplyDeleteAgree - this wallpaper gives me the creeps.

Beautiful photos, a lovely family. The girls are a real credit to their parents, they have grown to be stunning young ladies.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, they are stunning young ladies, lovely.
DeleteSarah P.
the girls all look so lovely! They are such beautiful young ladies, and all dressed so well. I'd like Maximums jumpsuit except that belt, I don't care for, just a little too big for me, but it's certainly her taste!
ReplyDeleteChel
If I have to position myself between the comment of Chel or Amelie (Anon 9:53), I am more on the Amelie side. Ariane, the youngest looks a very nice teenager.
DeleteIf I have to find a word for Amalia and particularly Alexia, the one which comes to my mind is : they are a bit "poseur" (the dictionary says that is good English). Ok I admit they still have to find their own style in public appearances. But I agree on their respective choice for their outfit, incl Maxima's jumpsuit.
I personally don´t get what should be so very beautiful about them. I just don´t see it.
ReplyDeleteAmelie
@Amelie: neither do I....
DeleteLily T.
Me neither. Amelie, I hope you won't be ripped to shreds for your comment...
DeleteNeither do I....
DeleteIf you don't get it Amelie, don't worry. It's not important. I've heard said (somewhere) that beauty is in the eye of the beholder - or something like that.
DeleteMy mother used to say: if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
DeleteI'm not gonna rip anyone to shreds, but I'd like to point of the maturity level here. Or lack of it, more precisely. And I've found out that there's no point in arguing with people like that, because I value my dignity. I refuse to sink down to a lower level. Peace out:)
DeleteSo, notwithstanding what mothers used to say - none of you/us have EVER said anything bad about anybody. We all have different tastes and will verbalize our dis/tastes from time to time. It's just the way it is; not judging, just preferences. ~Laurel~
DeleteLaurel:
DeleteIt's one thing to have different tastes when it comes to fashion, makeup and hairstyles etc. These things can change, and people are free think differently on these things.
But it's another thing to verbalize your distaste of more permanent things, like genes. These things cannot change, not without plastic surgery etc...
@Laurel: People are saying here that they don't find these girls beautiful, which is not exactly a nice thing to say. Especially because we are talking about children here. Critisizing adults, ok. Critisizing kids, please not. Let them be children with there own insecurities. They will be criticized enough once they are adults.
DeleteI think the purpose of a blog is to express/exchange views or opinions while always remaining polite. If it is to repeat under each head : she/he or they are nice or so nice, then I fear it will get boring. Or then we should have a website with only pictures, as some others... Perhaps just one point, not so easy to keep in mind: sensitiveness about style or color is not the same in all countries.
DeleteCarnival time in Holland!
ReplyDeleteJumpsuit Máxima lovely. Amalia, sorry wrong dress, wrong colour. She would be a gorgeous young woman if she just would lose some weight. Karl Lagerfeld dress, less is more. The youngest is looking also very sweet in her brodery dress. Anna
Ariane is wearing one of Amalia's old dresses. ~Laurel~
ReplyDeleteI love the annual photo-dates from the dutch king and his family.
ReplyDeleteThey all look soooo good. The girls really grow up very well.
Best dressed in my eyes is Amalia, she looks fantastic, great dress in great shape and colour, it fits her perfect! She's glowing and smiling what fits her also very perfect! The shoes are very nice, too.
I think they all look great. Max's joy at seeing her daughters involved in evident. They seem very close knit. All the ladies are lovely and their own personalities are coming out. The King looks good too.
