On March 4, 2020, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended an evening reception held by Irish Tanaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) Simon Coveney at MoLI (Museum of Literature Ireland) in Dublin. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a polka-dot print and contrast ruffle neckline midi dress by Oscar De La Renta. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are making an official visit to Ireland between March 3 and 5, at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. |
Not sure how I feel about her outfit. Maybe it's because her hair is different, but everything looks a little disconnected somehow.... JT
ReplyDeleteNot sure how I feel about the ruffle but the color is very good on the duchess. I however, find the bangs on her pony tail to be quite unfortunate. JC
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely couple. Duchess Kate's dress is a bit of a Diana style;frilly neckline. I do like the nice bright colour.
ReplyDeleteFor their trip to Ireland, I feel that overall, the Duchess has made good choices with her wardrobe. Can't find much to pick fault with. Congratulation to her.
DeleteI agree.
DeleteI like her dress, especially when see full view. Her lithe frame accentuated by her high heels if very attractive. I'm not a big fan of the bangs, but I commend her for trying something a little different. She and William seem to fit right in with whomever they visit. I very much like the white dress of the young lady in the last photo.
ReplyDeleteWow, I think Catherine looks lovely. Beautiful color of the dress with dark trim. Vintage but not vintage, an updated vintage look. It is cute and dressy. It works on Catherine. The dress, coupled with her hairstyle, makes her look younger. People complain about her "boring style"; but she tried something different for this occasion. I love it! ~Laurel~
ReplyDeleteFully agree!
DeleteLaurel, very well said. I agree about the “vintage but not vintage”. The ruffles at the neck, to me, are merely a pretty, feminine touch, in no way over the top. Fashion in the 80s often took frills and poufiness to an extreme, but this dress doesn’t — it’s just cute and dressy, as you say.
DeleteI agree, she tried something different, but still it does not mean it looks good. I like her hair though. - Lisa
DeleteI love everything about this outfit; the dress is lovely, and I always feel that when belt, shoes and handbag match it really makes for a pulled-together look. Love the attractive way the ponytail is styled, which brings it to a level that is appropriate for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely.
DeleteLike the colour and style of this dress and it’s a perfect length. The black contrast sets it off perfectly. Not too sure about the ruffle neckline though. I like the hair style from the front but think a straightforward updo would have looked tidier.
ReplyDeleteGreat color but the collar combined with the pattern looks dated. I was surprised to see that is was designed by Oscar De La Renta. I love her ponytail- the crisscross and wrapping her hair around the elastic band dresses it up. Her bangs aren't working for me. They look very heavy and the part should be more off-centered. I like both of her looks from earlier today. The cream coat is perfection and I love that she has had it for years.
ReplyDeleteE.B.B.
The dress, lovely, the hair, not her usual style, this is messy, not appropriate for an evening function.
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit. Beautiful colour
ReplyDeleteAgree!
DeleteI think I wore that dress (in a bigger size) back in 1988. Mrs. Cambridge looks fabulous. - Katiebob
ReplyDeleteBoth look very nice. Kate's dress is a beautiful color but a bit too much ruffle on the neckline.
ReplyDeleteThis tour is so 80's...
ReplyDeleteIs that a problem? Being impossible to invent at sufficiently fast speed, trends can only turn in cycles.
ReplyDeleteOh... no, sorry, I cannot like this one. Like the hair though!
ReplyDeleteThe hair looks fabulous, this is quite a sophisticated ponytail. Can’t like this dress, definitely going for the vintage look, however it would have been prissy and matronly even in the eighties.
ReplyDeletepink colour with the dots is very nice. Shape also, but pleaaaase, can we throw away this awful ruffles??
ReplyDeleteI like her hairstyle. Her dress, however, is awful. That´s so early 80s (polkadots, frills&ruffles, gathered seams, shoulder pads...), of a cheap-looking material and in a colour that doesn´t look good on her.
ReplyDeleteI like the two dresses we can see on the other ladies: the white/cream one, and the darkblue floral one with the bolero cardigan.
This magenta is a lovely color on Catherine. While the back of her hair style is quite exquisite looking, I do not care for the messy bits hanging down in front. In pics when they first left for this reception, her hair looks like it was all up in front...perhaps some fell out.
ReplyDeleteShelley
Enough is enough. That's not a good style. The dress is way too frumpy and the ponytail (far away from being sophisticated, I understand the idea but it doesn't work here) a big NO in combination with the whole outfit. A bit too much "vintage". Don't like it at all. Frieda
ReplyDeleteIs this an inherited dress from Diana's closet of 1982? :-/ *Maybe* (and that's a BIG MAYBE) if the collar was removed and it was short sleeved it might look okay. But as is, this is a huge miss, imo. Hopefully, this is the first and last showing of this dress.
ReplyDeleteEuropa.
What goes around comes around, especially in fashion!
ReplyDeleteI must say, these frilly patterned dresses looked nicer in the eighties, for some reason. Princess Diana always looked great in them, together with low-heeled shoes.
Today, the contrast between skin tight, often a number too small dresses and these rather matronly belted dresses is strange and did not exist 30 years ago.
The fashion on eighties was one of the ugliest in history and even if I hardly like Kate's outfits she definitely looks much better than Diana at the time. -Siri
DeleteThat outfit is a huge flop. - Siri
ReplyDeleteFun to see her experiment once in awhile. She always looks lovely. Pink or magenta suits her so well!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lady!
Me parece demasiado serio para ella , el color es bonito pero no me gusta el corte tan severo de institutriz.
