On February 3, 2020, King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía of Spain attended the Solemn opening of the Spanish Parliament at the Palace of Cortes. Upon their arrival, the royals were welcomed by government officials. The King reviewed the troops before the start of the ceremony. The Official Opening of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Spain is an event that takes place approximately in the second week after the investiture of the President of the Government. The event takes place in the Chamber of Congress of the Deputies of the Palace of Cortes. |
I don't love Letizia's cape and dress worn together. Both pieces separately are great. Love the snakeskin pumps. Her hair, make-up, and accessories are on point. Leonor's and Sofia's hair looks great. I prefer Sofia's dress.

Letti and the girls all look magnificent! Loves the cloaks and the Queen's hair is perfection.
ReplyDeleteI don't much care for Queen Letizia's cape or the hem of her dress. But, the dress is a perfect fit and, from the hipline up, it is very attractive. Her hair is nicely styled and allows her fabulous pearl drop earrings to be fully appreciated. Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia are the picture of loveliness.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you Debra.
DeleteTotally agree
-Elisabeth-
Ja genau wundervoll!
Deletethey are stunning. Leonor y Sofía are really beauties. They are so beautiful. I adore them
ReplyDeleteHow does she stand up, let alone walk on those shoes? I love the black cape.
ReplyDeleteCynthia, I agree about walking in those shoes. However, she needs them to boost her height, especially when standing next to her tall husband. I do not care for anything about her look on this occasion. ~Rose~
DeleteHeels improve every outfit. And lots of women are perfectly capable of walking and standing elegantly wearing heels. I love wearing heels myself and I am 65 years old. Just a matter of starting out young, so lots of practice. And NO, my feet are not ruined and in a good shape still.

DeleteAnon 1:00, you are indeed a very lucky woman to be able to still wear high heels. For your age, as you say, you're 65. And I have to agree with you, that any lady should feel self confident, and professional, when going to a formal event
I love everyone's look today. Letizia's cape, so dramatic and lovely. Her dress fits like a glove, and with the unusual hem, reminds me of something Queen Rania would wear too. Hair, makeup, and accessories are perfect. Both girls look beautiful, with their black coats. I'm glad they have on different dresses. I really like Sofia's dress. Leonor looks good in her red.

Wow, what a fabulous outfit for Queen Letizia. I don't normally like uneven hems but it matches the fall of the cape. Her shoes are fantastic and her updo is stunning. She is absolutely the picture of elegance, in my view. I also like the girls smart black coats and simple dresses. The King always looks good. Gorgeous family.
ReplyDeleteI like the top part of Q Letizias dress, but not the hem.Somehow it looks off centered. The Pss outfits are very lovely. Like their coats too, what nice surprise each has their own style of outfits. Nice color and style.
ReplyDeleteLetizia is gorgeous as always. Her daughters look more and more like teenagers, don't they - childhood seems over...
ReplyDeleteWhy does Leonor still look like a little girl with those red shoes? Not saying she should wear pumps, but something more age-appropriate. They look like toddlers shoes.
ReplyDeletePerhaps she chose them herself...? :) She is beginning to look more and more like her mother.
DeleteKara
DeleteAgree with you. Those are not even shoes.
Delete- SF
She is dressed like a Princess, in her private life she wears sneakers, boots, jeans, t-shirts. I think it is very appropiate.
DeleteAngie 11:51 - This is a site to air our opinions (irrelevant or not). We don't all think the same.
DeleteI do believe that considering their stature as a royal family that Leonor & Sofia could wear nicer-looking shoes for such a public occasion. My opinion is that Sofia's are more appropriate and dressier than Leonor's flat ill-fitting scuffed-up little-girl shoes. Thanks.
~Rose~
Those shoes are called "bailarinas" or "parisinas" and it what teenagers wear at formal ocassions in Spain. Worn even by grown up women, maybe not in your countries, here are very popular. I sometimes wear those shoes, As someone else said, in her private life she wear other shoes.
DeleteRose, but the opinion in Spain is we do not give a damn, the politics were very important yesterday and as I said someone even refused to shake her hand and probably thought that would be too much pompouse. So your opinion is welcome but you lack of the context.
DeleteRose, those shoes and outfit are a "repeit" to not bother the people with fashion a day to politics. Their clothes were the last, when they had to suffer some rude behaviors. Their "stature" is very tricky here.
DeleteAnd no body say the catalan members of parliament don't attend and the said in the Spanish TV they have no King? I think Catalans are crazy.
DeleteAnon 2:00, not only the Catalan separatist, the Basque separatist and the Galegos separatist.(49 members of 350) Also some assisted but did not applaud King's speech and others refused to salute them.
DeleteMy guess is also that she chose her shoes herself. The "shoe" topic should not be given exagerated importance.

DeleteSon preciosas, mother and daugthers. Leonor and Sofía are stunning. Queen Letizia is perfect
ReplyDeleteThe whole family look gorgeous.
I think Queen Letitia looks stunning with the correct hair, makeup and shoes. The dress I am on the fence about. To me, it doesn't look formal enough for such an occasion. I am also getting to the point where dressing the 2 girls in matching outfits brings up a twin vibe. At least here they only have the exact same coat. I, too, think the red shoes are not very becoming. They don't look very grand or grown up. They are gorgeous girls. Just like their beautiful mom.
ReplyDeleteToo much formal given the govermment now in Spain.
DeleteI am 50 years old and I wear those shoes, it is a very typical plain shoe in Spain.
DeleteA very complicated occasion when ones applaudded the King and others not. It is not a very "formal" occasion at all, if you see the rest.
DeleteA beautiful outing for this stylish family: the King looks regal and handsome, Letizia is perfectly styled, the girls are just gorgeous. Thank you for the lovely photos! Cindy
ReplyDeletePoor Leonor had a cold, fever and sore throat
ReplyDeleteSusana
Yes, she was sick but shaking hands for an hour, hard working already.
DeleteAnd even someone refused to shake her hand, this is NOT and easy country for the Monarchy, nobody was thinking of her clothes at all there.
Why the need for a child to attend if she has a fever, the child should be at home
DeleteIt is not a "child", it is the heir and she needed to attend, This country is very tricky for them.
DeleteIs this occasion a style show?
ReplyDeleteRead the text above the pictures that gives information EVEN on a blog about fashion!
DeleteThe Queen looks superb. Love the coat, so elegant looking. Dress is perfect. Her snakeskin shoes are the perfect finishing touch. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWell well well... it looks like this has descended into a political free-for-all. Considering that and cultural issues, the girls' shoes are probably not all that important. However, their choice of shoes will improve as they mature and morph into what their mother wears.
ReplyDeleteWe can't all know each country's cultural dictates; we just comment on what we see, good or bad - like little Swedish Alexander's long hair and UK George's Peter Pan shirts & shorts. We're all different.
~Rose~
