A little tighter maybe and no Granny necklace, she would look great.

  2. Toujours aussi charmante Kako... Mignon petit ensemble finement ceinturée ; jolies petites perles... J'aime beaucoup la manière de porter sa pochette !

  3. Agree with Anon 10 55. A more fitted skirt would make this look much more modern. I would also have bag and shoes in a lighter colour than black. Princess kako is another royal who always looks like she is enjoying her work

I don’t think anyone in the Japanese royal family care much about our Western definition of ‘modern’. Nor should they, in my opinion. Why should we assume to be the ones who know what is ‘modern’? Typical disregard of anything that doesn’t fit the mould.

I believe she looks very good, wears an outfit that nods to Western couture, but with consideration given to their own traditions in terms of not unnecessarily showing the body to its every detail. Much better than skin tight outfits some royals wear.

AnnieM - What is wrong with black accents? Black-and-white is a classic combination. Her shoes & bag go well with her dark hair, a nice line of vision. And at least the Japanese royals are modest and don't stuff themselves into their clothes like some other royal ladies do. ~Rose~

Anon 10:03 - What makes you think she chooses to dress like an older woman when she is not on official royal duty? It would be a very rare young woman that wanted to look like that all the time. The young women in Japan do like fashion, even while respecting the cultural traditions of Japan when the times call for it.

    4. I tend to agree with Lily A. Yes it is wrong to judge Japanese ladies with our eyes of Western citizens. However when we see the empress Masako we realize that she is able to strike a right balance between the national traditions and modernity. I think we could be inspiring for the younger generation Pr Kako and even more Pr Aiko. These young Japanese royals should perhaps also take into account that the younger Japanese population is now often far from the static traditions. Be reassured I don't mean they should dress like Maria Olympia of Greece.

I think she looks good here in a classic outfit that seems to be the style of the Japanese royals. The black accessories echo her hair colour. (V.M.)

  7. This is a lovely outfit. Love the choice of black shoes and clutch. The suit fits her perfectly, I don't like skin tight at all, the length of her skirt is spot on. The addition of the pearls is the perfect finishing touch. She looks very elegant.
