On January 8, 2020, Queen Maxima of The Netherlands visited ElanArt Foundation at HAN University of Applied Sciences in Arnhem and Nijmegen. The ElanArt Foundation is the winner of one of the three Appeltjes van Oranje 2019, the prize of the Oranje Fonds for successful social initiatives. The Foundation gives young people from asylum seekers' centers the opportunity to contact with eachother and discover their talents by participating in artistic and creative projects. In addition, the Foundation aims to bring young asylum seekers into contact with various people and organizations. (Queen Maxima wore a new mixed-check belted coat by Oscar de la Renta.) |

Not my favorite coat!
ReplyDeleteSo sad, still cannot find her hair brush. Not fond of the clothing that looks like a bathrobe with a belt.
ReplyDeleteTrès joli manteau qui semble un peu lourd mais la silhouette de Maxima le supporte bien..
ReplyDeleteJ'aime beaucoup son sac à mains ainsi que les bottes !
I must say, I do like that coat. I'm a sucker for a nice plaid. Nice neutral bag, no crazy accessories, which she tends toward. I'm giving up commenting on the hair.

DeleteChel, totally agree with you, and the other comments, about her hair. We must just accept, that it will always be dishevelled, untidy! Where, in previous years, her hair were always beautifully, styled, to the nines. Or at least when she had public appointments!
The coat seems too big on Maxima (especially the sleeves), but when you look at the model, it appears that is exactly the designer's intention. I like the different plaid patterns, and I prefer the way Maxima has worn it with the bolder pattern overlapping the dark than how it is shown in the opposite way on the model.

There is nothing royal about her hair.
ReplyDeleteMaxi
I think that royalty has nothing to do with "hair" but with an inner nobility that Maxima expresses with her smile and empaty.
DeleteI love this coat and dress. Oversized, very fashionable. The sleeves might be shorter, although it looks as if the sleeves at the model are very long as well. Anyhow, I think they should be shorter.
ReplyDeleteSuch a coat wore Huckelberry Finn in M. Twain's novel. I forgot who illustrated the book, but I think Oscar de la Renta also read the book and designed this model based on the illustration of little vagrant Finn.
ReplyDeleteMaxima in this coat looks "drowned". And hair - oh, what a pity! Maxima and Meghan are lost cases. Especially in the case of the other lady, her fans and PR team consider criticism to be a personal attack instead of learning from it.
Nice to see Maxima again.Sadly this coat looks like it is way too big. The interchanging of the pattern is not bad. The bag and simple hoop earring are nice.
ReplyDeleteMaxima is defenitely the coolest Queen on our planet. The coat together with those boots are in a modern and stylish way special.
ReplyDeleteShe can very well wear something sleeveless, her arms are in perfect shape.
And - even if it's an exceptional opinion - I like her hair.
Katrin
Totally agree with you Katrin.
DeleteI agree with you too Katrin! (Judy)
DeleteI agree, Maxima has a very strong personality and her clothes reflects it beautifully. - Siri
DeleteMan! This coat had me confused until I saw it on the model. I was thinking, "Wow, Max is sure wearing a lot of heavy layers." not realizing it's one coat with two sides. :-|
ReplyDeleteFor me, pieces like this are "editorial fashion." It's meant to make a statement or be a piece of art. Not, necessarily, something one should try to wear in the real world. Some times you can get away with and some times, like this, you can't. Often a more realistic, toned down version is made for someone to actually wear in real life. Max should have went that route.
Europa.
Well, as you said, in real life. But the point of royal life is to give us all a break from real life.
DeleteKatrin
LOL, I don't think that's the actual point of royal life but I get your meaning. But even in the spirit of what you mean, I think what a royal wears has to be metered, so to speak. You don't want to be so far "out there" with a look that it takes away from the event or charity being promoted. By all means, do shoe up looking totally smart and put together but ... metered. I think the best way to sum it up; instead of Max wearing the coat, the coat is wearing Max. And that's never good whether you're royalty or just a regular person. :)
DeleteEuropa.
El abrigo, la falda parece han añadido pedazos de paño, horrible, enorme,
ReplyDeletemal peinada, otra dia estara mejor.
De acuerdo
DeleteMaxima drowns in that coat, which is nice in itself but not good on her and due to its weight should have buttons to keep it closed (it looks very sloppy at the bottom in that last photo). She's wearing boots and a sleeveless dress and later needed a shawl and keep her coat on indoors. I think she's got her seasons mixed up. The colors are nice. ~Rose~
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. It's like what I posted above; the coat is wearing Max instead of Max wearing the coat.

Qué horror de pelos
ReplyDeleteOh I have missed Queen Maxima over the last few weeks and then instead of something bright and vibrant to cheer us up on a dull January day she appears in something that reminds me of my Dad's dressing gown! I'm assuming that the dress matches the coat with a mixture of pattern and checks. The nice orange wrap in the last pics. Anyway, she always seems such a naturally happy person it's just good to see her again.
ReplyDeleteGradually, her looks are becoming stranger..... as if she is loosing contact with the world of normal people. The sleeveless dress in January, the non-fitting coat, and both of the garments not coming cheap undoubtedly.... The thoughtless spending.
ReplyDeleteLily T.
Agree and only a few people are detecting that. Mars
DeleteYes, oversized is fashionable again and I also prefer it to skintight, it gives more women (all women!) the chance to look good. I like the coat, I also like the dress and Maxima's beautiful arms call for sleevelessness :-). But those asymmetrical hems, they should go away ... (Ann.)
ReplyDelete@11:18pm - Oversized or size-appropriate is much better to look at and way more comfortable than skin tight. Maxima's handkerchief skirt is awful; I don't understand the appeal of such fashion. Her dress is still too tight across the bust, which is normal for her and for Mathilde (perhaps I'll blame it on their usual Natan choices). ~Rose~
DeleteQueen Maxima looks gorgeous . Love her wide smile and good to see her without a hat.
ReplyDeleteWaste of money, this ensemble.
ReplyDeleteThe swagger- coat should be worne in an easy way; the sleeveless dress in heavy wool : in my eyes ridiculous.
Oh I love this ensemble with its mix of fabrics, but I’m not sure it’s fitting Q. Maxima as it should. It does seem a bit too oversized. But her cognac accessories are excellent and I think her hair is not as bad as we’ve seen. That’s high praise! (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteNot a good look. So many things that don´t go together:
ReplyDeleteThe heavy woolen fabric and a sleeveless design.
The assymetrical hem and the contrasting patterns (often one of those is already too much).
That dress and that coat. Too much. Too heavy. Confusing design.
That hair and an official appearance.
I think I would have liked a dress of that fabric (even with a contrasting panel), but it needed to have sleeves and an even hem, preferably just below the knee. The boots are great, the handbag is too. The coat is not really an elegant piece. Styled casually like on the model, it *might* work but not together with the dress.
Honestly, this dress looks bad on her. Does she choose the dress by herself? Very disappointed choice!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Queen looks happy and very engaging. Lovely to see her out and about.
ReplyDeleteFunky missmatched outfit, terrible hair as usual, her laugh and smiles seem a bit frantic at times.
ReplyDeleteI have often thought her smile and laugh were way overdone...You chose the right word, frantic. That is exactly what it is.
DeleteInga
I do agree, moreover, I posted the same opinion a few times before.... never used the word ‘frantic’ though it describes this over-the-top screaming with laughter all the time very well..... totally fake.
DeleteLily T.
Dress is horrible with that piece other material.
ReplyDeleteMaxima is very friendly, but she laugh to much with mouth open, this is not royal.
Agree!
DeleteI like her style, also here. Fun and creative clothing on a warm and charismatic person.
ReplyDelete-Reka
Que manía de los diseñadores de hacer los vestidos de invierno sin mangas.
ReplyDeleteNo tiene sentido.
Su pelo a mejorado.
