King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain released their annual Official Christmas Card on 13 December 2019. Spanish Royal Family's Christmas card features a photo of King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia and their children, Crown Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía. The photo was taken during a visit to the village of Asiegu, in northern Spain, in October. Likewise, King Felipe’s parents, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía released their Christmas card, as well. |
The Communications Department has really let this photogenic family down with the release of this bland card. This cannot be the best image of 2019. It does not look like one of those kitchen table projects where the family chooses one picture that best represents them. They do not engage with the people that the greetings are addressed to by looking at the camera. They are standing on an elevated balcony above their 'audience'. Each person has a different facial expression, with the girls wearing their best on duty smiles. This deserves a recall. 2016 as a comparison.

The abuelos have stopped using nativity scenes on their cards. They look nice.
It is in Asturias and I think they have chosen this photo as Leonor is the Princess of Asturias and this year her debut has been.
DeleteNo time for festive photos, all of them have been very busy and the girls have exams by now, both of them have been seen enough by the people this year.
DeleteThere were many classic pictures taken that weekend, even in Asiegu. This is not one of them. No excuses...these things have to be chosen in advance to be printed.
DeleteThe card, and the work of the parents is seen internationally. -B
Nice to see the families like this, but not like Christmas.
ReplyDeleteIn Spain Christmas cards are not a tradition. Nowadays because of tv and internet things are mixing in countries.
DeleteI Agree
DeleteI think it is a lovely photo of a happy family. I am sure the recipients of the Christmas card will be thrilled.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that they send it at all, it is only for the media. In Spain is not a tradition, I do not know anybody who do it.
DeleteOnly the letter for the Reyes Magos,(The three wise).
Debra, so nice of you to set a positive tone in the comments. I agree not the most staged picture, nevertheless I would love to get one...
