Crown Princess Mary participated in and gave a speech at the launch of the 70th anniversary celebration of the two countries’ diplomatic relations. In connection with the arrangement, the logo for the official celebration was presented, and the Crown Princess, together with development cooperation minister Rasmus Prehn and UNFPA Executive Director Natalia Kanem, attended a Danish-Indonesian ballet. Sadly, this looks more like a bedroom garment, than something fashionable. The color also does not suit the Princess
ReplyDeleteThe blue frock (or dress if you wish) that she wore on day two of her Indonesian vist was very appropriate. I seem to understand that the "ETRO" dress was for a visit to the ballet. I'm of mixed feelings about the choice. Perhaps a little over the top but given that it's rare for Mary to make a bad choice, I'll give it a mark of 10/20.
DeleteI agree, the dress looks like a kimono, but I think CP Mary has chosen it because of the colour and the pattern with flowers ?

I really do not enjoy when royals completely miss the target in their mimicry of a country's national dress. It's a bit insulting. The Etro piece is Japonesque and does not resemble the Indonesian Kebaya the least bit. It's far too much of a coincidence that Princess Mary to trotted this piece out during this trip. Indonesian is a very far ways from Japan. This is worst than when the DoC wore the Cook Islands dress to a Solomon Island event. Surely someone on their staff must be knowledgeable on these cultural nuances and advise them? A quick google search wouldn't hurt either...if Princess Mary wanted, perhaps she could have purchased a dress from a local designer as many other royals have done.
ReplyDeleteI dont think the designer intended it to be a cultural dress, its neither reflecting Japan nor Indonesia.
DeleteThe designer didn't but Princess Mary choosing to wear this dress for this engagement suggests that she does.
DeleteOh no, Mary!
DeleteThis dress is far from Kimono of Japan.
Japanese people must hate your dress!
I forgot to mention, I dislike fushia and black together, the floral print is not very pretty, and I do not enjoy the handkerchief hem. A rare miss for Princess Mary :(
ReplyDeleteMorning robe.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I really don't like this dress. I don't know why CP Mary like to choose this one? I believe she has a lot of better choices.
ReplyDeleteImo a miss for Mary

This is a rare miss for me.
ReplyDeleteLove this beautifull colourfull silk dress!
ReplyDeleteCP Mary looks tired in the first photo, but that might be due to the lighting. I must join the majority in saying that I do not care for her choice of dress for this event. I know next to nothing about traditional fashion in Indonesia so I can't comment on whether Mary is guilty of ill-advised cultural appropriation (but I can't imagine she would do so willingly, and she is too intelligent to do so unwittingly). Suffice it to say, she made a fashion choice which was pleasing to her.
ReplyDeleteI like Marys updo but not her outfit,it is more a fancy bathrobe sorry.
ReplyDeleteAnd the motto is: hit or miss...
ReplyDeleteTrès jolies couleurs dans ce style de robe imprimée fleurie ; les boucles d'oreilles sont délicatement accordées !!!
ReplyDeleteI love it, very feminine.
