On November 9, 2019, The Royal British Legion hosted the annual Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall to commemorate all those who have lost their lives in conflicts. Members of the royal family, that is, Queen Elizabeth, The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, Princess Anne and Sir Tim Laurence and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester attended the annual Royal Festival of Remembrance. |
While I love a fabulous retro dress and this one is beautiful! I feel like its swallowing Meghan. Pulling her down effect. I know she is still working on her baby weight gain but she seems to keep wearing things that are too full making her look bulky and fuller. She is 5'7"but her frame is tiny. Beautiful dress but I think it's too heavy looking. Catherine looks nice in a very simple dress. Not sure I like the headband with this dress. She looks older lately too. More tired? I wish she would add a bit of weight. Being too thin makes one age faster. NO I AM NOT BODY SHAMING.
ReplyDeleteI agree entirely. Catherine looks like Alice in wonderland and it is not flattering even if its all quite nice and suitable. She is back to her habit of wearing her belts a good bit above her natural waistline for reasons I can't fathom. I also do not understand why she dyes her hair so much lighter. Her own hair is much darker and even if it has quite a few grey streaks so what! I think whatever she has done to her eyebrows and the new hair colour just do not work and making her look older. I also think a beuatiful updo would have looked far more elegant and interesting than that silly alice band. I don't know why Meghan has departed from her own loverly sleek simple taste in clothes but pleated and gathered skirts are not flattering when one is a bit broader in the hips than one likes. For the rest her beautiful face and smile look so much better when her hair is brushed back off her face. For wearing it long she could just tie it back behind her head in a ponytail with a bit of it plaited around the elastic and she would be just as casual as when its loose but you can then see her loverly face.
DeleteTotally agree.
DeleteBeing too thin makes one age faster.
Totally AGREE!!
Why are y'all even talking about her weight it's none of your damn business. So some of y'all would be fine if anyone talk about your weight since you think it's ok to talk about Kate's🙄
DeleteI agree.
DeleteDavion, clothes ie fashion which is what this blog is about, are about appearance and weight, either too much or too little, affects appearance. The people who commented did so respectfully and don't deserve this kind of angry response.
DeleteLikes - Kate’s dress, Anne’s scarf, and everything about Sophie. Oh, and Camilla’s blue shoes!
ReplyDeleteNo. Just no - Meghan’s dress does her absolutely no favors. She continues to tie things around an unnaturally high waist and this is not flattering. I so want to hire her a stylist. Sigh. Joanne
My thought was, Camilla could find her black shoes, so she put on some blue shoes in a hurry. But it is probably not like that in the Royal Family.
DeleteI have for sure a few different "likes" & "nos". I think it is easier to go straight to the "nos" : total outfit of Pr Anne, blue shoes of Camilla. I don't know dress code was "dark" but not necessarily black??
DeleteTolerance for Meghan, sure she is still underway towards her normal weight, only comment I dno't think her shoes were adequate (also blue, no?)
Meghan should really think about hiring a new stylist, that dress makes her look like she’s put on a lot of weight which is not actually true! Also the print in combination with the hairstyle makes her to appear like a governess:/
ReplyDeleteThe fabric of Meghan's dress is not a print. More probable the pattern is woven into the fabric, shiny and matte alternating (jacquard?)

Joann -
ReplyDeleteOverall, Meghan looks lovely - hair wonderful. But dress is showing a hint of cleavage. Not appropriate for a Memorial event. Because of that, Meghan stands out from the other royal ladies. I read somewhere where protocol dictated royal ladies were supposed to dress in an understated way so as not to draw attention to themselves when the Queen was present. I think she should have saved that dress for an evening banquet/gala where she was the honored guest.
Stunningly beautiful Duchess Meghan.
ReplyDeleteI’m happy to see D. Gloucester here - she reminds me of P. Benedikte - beautiful complexion and always elegantly dressed. She often wears her grey pearls and gemstone clips. Of the other ladies, C. Sophie’s hair looks great; the Queen’s jewelry is gorgeous; and P. Anne, bless her heart, is businesslike as usual. I’m not sure why D. Camilla chose to wear navy shoes with thick black tights. I think D. Meghan and D. Catherine both look fine but neither dress is memorable. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteAll ladies look nice in their own way. Not too fond of Meghan dress style and neckline...may be better suited for a glamour dinner event? The Queen looks so dignified and well for her age.
ReplyDeleteThe Queen- amazing gold standard amazing
ReplyDeleteDoCo- love everything from shoulders up, not sure why the consistent seems across the middle of the bust-line at least front panel stops it but not a good place for a seems and I think she grabbed the wrong shoes
DoCam- lovely dress, make-up, jewels, etc., just not entirely sold on this headband thing/phase.
DoS-beautiful hair, make-up, jewelry and just a lovely dress but completely agree with others about too low neckline (for this event) and not flattering
CoW-beautiful (without the coat)dress, etc., slightly shorter necklace
DoG- love it all great burgundy color & jewels with wrap hard color with poppy
PrA- her usual. Scarf looks great but pick scarf or pearls, not crazy about cuffs & hem but like the trim
Great smiles and event!!
Glo
I like how the open neckline brings attention to Meghan's face. Her hair and make-up look great. The belt/ waistline is not the most flattering. Love her shoes. They are classic with just enough detail to make them interesting and go with so many things. Catherine's dress simple, pretty and appropriate for the occasion but a little boring. Sophie's hair looks great. I like Camilla's blue shoes just not with this outfit.
ReplyDeleteE.B.B.
I so wish Princess Anne would try a more youthful hairstyle!
ReplyDeleteRoyalty fan
DeleteJo, it was my wish also, since she and commander Tim Lawrence, got married! Which brings us to 27 years now. But, yes, all our hope's, and aspirations, of her having her hair cut, and styled, were dashed, and still are
The Queen and her family always have a large turn out, for these events, which is fantastic to watch. Every one looked lovely more or less. The Q was looking great, Anne's dress was really nothing special.Kate's dress simple elegance Meghan's dress was very nice but not right for this event, I feel to low cut.Sohpie looked lovely but a bit sad maybe? Camilla's blue shoes was a no for me. Would have been nice for the DOY to bring his daughters and his SIL and almost Son in Law. Sorry no DOE either.
ReplyDeleteCamilla's blue shoes look terrible with black tights. Anne's dress was cut low, but she added a scarf and pearls so it was not as noticeable as Meghan's low cut dress which was a lovely printed fabric, but too low cut for the occasion. Meghan did not wear stockings again, which I find disrespectful when she is in a formal gathering with the Queen. Catherine and Sophie, as well as the Queen looked lovely.... JT
ReplyDeleteHarry and William wearing the same time? Anyone knows why?
ReplyDeleteI also think Meghan keeps on making the wrong choices for her frame, she looks indeed heavy and the decolette screems for attention.
Luna
It's the Blue and Royals regiment tie.
DeleteCatherine's dress is very pretty and the velvet belt is quite complementary, but her headband is the show stopper piece for me. It is refreshingly different and she looks great in it. Meghan's dress is too full for her smaller stature and really makes her appear larger than she is. I like the trim on Anne's dress. The material on Sophie's dress looks quite elegant, but I think it would look better a few inches shorter.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne
La robe de Meghan conviendrait beaucoup mieux pour une soiree dansante.
ReplyDeleteElle allait en club après .
DeleteI love Anne’s scarf. I WANT that scarf. I like, but don’t love, Kate’s boatneck dress. I wish Camilla would give the pearl chokers a rest and break out some of her other fabulous necklaces. She has access to some fantastic jewels. Duchess Brigitte is always an understated, well-bejeweled, joy to behold. While I love Meghan’s neckline on her dress, I think it was a little too revealing for such a somber event and I think the bottom portion of her dress was way too big for her petite frame. It just makes her lower half disproportionately big. Her shoes are great.
ReplyDeleteMeghan is a beautiful woman and she has wonderful simple clothes, but indeed this dress does not flatter her at all. Makes her look fat with the belt too high up. The cleavage is too much for a remembrance concert. And I agree that Kate lately looks so thin.
ReplyDeleteSophie and Catherine and duchess of Glouc ester- wonderful! They always know how to dress properly and yet beautifully. Queen, Anne -very well. Camilla - good clothes, bad shoes and stockings. Meghan - finally a good hairstyle, but a very bad choice of clothes. The structure of the fabric is nice, but the dress does not suit her. That cleavage is absolutely unsuitable for this occasion. Why is she doing this? Is it misunderstanding or does she do it on purpose? Be the center of attention at all costs. And I naively thought that attention should be given to people who sacrificed their lives for their homeland. And members of the royal family are there to support this idea, not to push this idea somewhere in the background.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Anonymous 12:16!
DeleteAgree with you on all points!

Well said , totally agree with you Anonymous 12:16.
DeleteNot a fan of Duchess of Sussex dress. Heavy and bulky fabric, substantial amount, same with belt, giving a look of fullness. Shoes appear navy and don't go with the dress. Hair and makeup look lovely. Duchess of Cambridge looks nice, but we have seen this style so many times, it would be nice for her to mix it up a bit more, becoming quite uniform. Not a fan of the headband. Duchess Brigitte looked fantastic, a red silk blouse and black skirt (by the look of the photos) and lovely modern ankle length shoes, divine. A beautiful black wrap and beautiful jewels, she knows how to dress. The Queen looked superb, loved the pearl strands against the black dress. Stunning.
ReplyDeleteAll The ladies looks quite nice. Only Camilla's blue shoes aren't a good choice. -Siri
ReplyDeleteI'll be brief: How to do it -Sophie. How not to do it -Meghan.
ReplyDeleteHow to do it - The Queen she looks absolutely glorious and that at over ninety. It is a pity that she does not wear black more often it really is a double star colour on her.
DeleteI honestly think that Camilla did not see which shoes she grabbed in the dark or that her feet are so sore these were the only ones she could find that did not kill her.
Indeed nalerina.
DeleteI’ll be short: they all look lovely ❤️

Bien toutes ces dames mais les chaussures de Camilla dans cette couleur ? Chic la duchesse de Gloucester avec une belle harmonie dans sa tenue, ses bijoux... J'envie sa coiffure à cheveux courts !!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous line-up of LBD classics! From divine black brocade of D.of Sussex to the light , simply embroidered wool paneled velvet of D of Cornwall's elegant dress, to C of Wessex's simple, impeccably cut, midi dress with sensational black shearling jacket, to P.Royal's silk satin small bows embellished cuffs and hemline, to HM exciting tweed ensemble! D.of Cambridge's dark blue dress with velvet sash and lovely headband was such a fresh choice. Sorry for those flashlights which determined blues over blacks now and then but all and all Great!
ReplyDeleteWhen I watched the festival last night I was impressed with the outfits of everyone. Mostly I agree with the comments. The Queen, as impeccable as always, Camilla fine apart from the shoes. Like everyone else has said, why would you possibly think navy was right with this outfit, unless like Nalerina ánd Anon 3:40 suggest, she put on the wrong pair! :) However, while that can happen to any of us, I imagine that she has people to check these things. Sophie as elegant as always but still favouring these very long skirts, Duchess of Gloucester great. I like the comparison with Princess Benedikte and since Brigitte is Danish and of a similar vintage that's maybe not so surprising.
ReplyDeleteI rather like Princess Anne's dress and scarf and to the critics of Meghan's neckline, Princess Anne's is also relatively low for her. Duchess of Cambridge is simple and elegant--I think to describe it as a little boring is unfair given the nature of the event. Like others, I'm not sure that the Alice Band was the best look for her. Lastly Meghan---I have often decided not to read posts about her because I get so annoyed by the people who jump to her defence at any criticism of her clothes. This time I am that person! I thought this was a beautiful outfit and don't think the neckline was low enough to offend anyone. the material looked beautiful and I agree that the belted flared dresses she has been wearing are not especially flattering, I thought this was 50s style glamour (anyone else wonder if she might be in the early stages of pregnancy again and trying to disguise it?) at it's best and she looked great.
As for flattering or not: I agree with AnnieM, Meghan's dress is beautiful. Dresses are not always or exclusively there for hiding a (temporarily or as per default) heavier midriff or making someone slimmer. We don't dress to disguise, or do we? :-) What should a really fat woman do, then? Never leave her house? Meghan is a little bit short and full in this dress, but looks nevertheless good. - But the neckline is too low, drawing too much attention, probably because everyone else is "closed up", it is not quite appropriate for the occasion.
Delete(Ann.)
I think Camilla's dress is black and dark blue. In that case it is OK with blue shoes.
ReplyDeleteSara
I really don't like Meghans dress. it looks old fashioned and doesn't do anything for her. Her makeup is nice as always.
ReplyDeleteAll the other womans look really good, I like Kates dress a lot, I'm ok with the headpiece but not a fan of it.
The queen looks just fabulous.
Totally agree with you Anna B .
DeleteSophie looked beautiful with her hair loose. Love the queen's bright lipstick matching her poppies, she looked wonderful. I don't understand blue shoes with black outfits, but each to their own. I like Catherine's sparkly headband as well as her highlights.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you LadyM.
